World's Greatest Super Heroes

The Mego Worlds Greatest Superheroes line was in full force in 1974, the line expanded to include vehicles and supporting characters.

In terms of production, Neal Kublan mentions the Superheroes line created some firsts as screen printing on stretch material was revolutionary, he adds: "Actually the material didn't even exist, we found it because our agents were making ladies pantsuits and leisure suits for men out of that material, it was great and it stretched and you could sew it"

It was even more cost effective for Mego to produce the later WGSH characters "There were differences, the Marvels in terms of the cost benefit ratio were much better figures from a manufacturing stand point, that was because we had a year and a half's experience"

Mego pulled out all the stops for Batman in the early 70's, Batmobiles sold by the millions in the early seventies

Why not change the existing DC characters with this new found Knowledge, Mr Kublan adds this wisdom "First of all, if it ain't broke don't fix it and it also had a lot to do with the factory situation, changes when we didn't have our own factory were excruciating."

The Mego Supergals first came out with Silk Screened boots but later they had real boots and accessories, this was done intentionally for speed, as Neal Kublan explains "We wanted to get it to the counter and the other parts had to be tooled, so we didn't wait for the tooling."

Mego tried to capitalize on the Superheroes craze with a line of Bendy figures and Deluxe plush dolls but the craziest idea, Superhero Vitamins didn't fair so well "we tried to proceed but DC and Marvel felt kids would take a Superman vitamin and try to fly or a take a Spiderman vitamin and try to climb up a wall, so we were turned down."

The Mego Super Softies and Talking Super Softies were a bomb for Mego. The Supervator was one of Mego's first playsets

The Mego Bend N Flex line of bendy Superheroes, the carrying case was never produced

The Mego Bend N Flex line of Superheroes were a low cost hit for Mego, with the success of the 8" line there was always a desire to create Superhero items in different price points. The relatively low cast Bend N Flex (under a dollar) were great sellers while the higher price point Super Softies and Talking Super Softies were as Neal Kublan puts it "A Bomb". It should also be noted that the Super Softies only shipped once and in small quantities.....
