McFarlane doing Super Powers?

I am happy to be able to add them to my collection. If the figures come carded I will leave them like I did my gold figures. -
I got an extra Bug for myself on clearance for $14, so prices look like they vary by store. I also grabbed an extra Invisible Jet for a friend for $9.
It took a while to find a Bug initially but I've found every vehicle at retail, and most have gone to clearance as well. I can't say the same for the figures. There's at least a third of the figures I have never seen at retailers, and sometimes I see people post a wave has gone to clearance at their store before I ever see it at my local Walmarts (it happened with Deathstroke & Nightwing) and it then goes out at full price for like a week there before getting marked down to clearance. I am not sure if that is a McFarlane or a Walmart issue, but it can't help the profitability of the line as a whole no matter who is responsible unless the line is profitable enough via online sales only and the physical retail doesn't matter (which is doubtful but possible).

Yeah, there's talk that the numbers were inflated to make it look like it funded, but it was going to happen anyway.
The Bug is down to $16 around here, but someone posted on FB it was at $9 in their area.Leave a comment:

So, funny enough, I just checked the Super Powers crowd funding and it has been fully funded with 9 days to go. It's at 106% funded.
Either people seeing the items in person at SDCC pushed it over the top, or some e-tailers like BBTS helped push it over the finish line (so far).
I am glad and hope it holds as the vehicles are really nice. But it's feels odd. And the second highest selling reward is the $100 one with Todd McFarlane signature Art Card. I never understood the desire for Todd's signature with properties that has nothing to do with him.
On another note, Black Manta arrived from Amazon the other day, helping finish with this last wave. And Invisible Jets are on clearance at my Walmart for $9.00.Leave a comment:

The problem with Walmart is that they don't put out new waves until the pegs are cleared of old waves, so they don't go out on the shelves sometimes until weeks after they are available elsewhere, so the initial wave of demand has already been met and they sit and warm pegs until they get clearanced out. It becomes a self-perpetuating self-fulfilling prophecy. If we don't see anything at NYCC, the line may be done for. There's the rumored next wave and the JSA 3-pack. I hope they at least get made.
I think the line could succeed if McFarlane took note of fan reaction and sales to particular figures. The instant markdowns at Walmart don't look great either, though. The Bug and Brainiac Ship aren't really old and are now marked down basically everywhere. If the line continues, I wouldn't be surprised if the vehicles are phased out, which is a shame, because I like them more than the figures in many cases.

I expect it to fold, the McF crowdfund isn't going to make it, either. It's a shame, I thought recent releases were better, like an extension of the original line. Collectors really don't tolerate all those repaints/variants, though--and let's not discuss exclusives.
I'd hoped it might last long enough to see characters like the Atom, Green Arrow with a hood, perhaps Golden-Age Flash or Green Lantern, Capt. Marvel & Black Adam, and more heroines.
Not doing clean-cut Aquaman and classic Robin (or, Robin of Earth-2!) for the crowdfund may prove a fatal mis-step.Leave a comment:

What bothered me was SDCC they didn't show new figures. I want this lineup to last but they are making it hard.Leave a comment:

Very true. I'm seeing that with MOTU right now with the Snake Lair crowdfund.Leave a comment:

Yeah, I'm bummed the vehicles probably won't get made. But other than Batman and Manta, the repaints of Aquaman and Robin were really poorly executed, in my opinion. I think this sunk a lot of the enthusiasm. I'm not sure why they can't just offer these up through the McFarlane Store and "Fan Channels" like BBTS, EE, etc. The crowd-funding should be saved for big projects like a faithful reproduction of the unreleased Tower of Doom or something like that.Leave a comment:

I really dislike ordering something without being able to see it in person. For many things I would rather not get it than have to get it through mail order, so my purchases of action figures have gone way down, and will continue to do so. And I am ok with that. More money to spend on other hobbies where I can actually see and interact with the goods before purchasing.

I pre-ordered when they announced them. Unfortunately all action-figure collecting seems to be leaning toward pre-order or miss out. I really hate that it's come to this.Leave a comment:

I looked at the McFarlane store, most of the wave is already sold out there. I might try Amazon, or I might just wait and see what shows up at Wallyworld.

I got Booster, Guy, Metamorpho and the new Black Manta in the mail last week from McFarlane store. Still hoping to find a Fleischer Superman in the wild.Leave a comment:
