Thank you guys for the info on this, I understand a little better now. I still think a separate cowl piece you could put on or off would have been cool to add, but I get it. I will definitely now have to search for Batman Detective #400, it looks really interesting.
Yeah, the cowl behind would have been nice. Some folks over on the Kenner Super Powers Facebook group are making custom versions.
The Man-Bat story is a classic! Definitely recommend it, and any Batman book drawn by Neal Adams from this period.

Seeing him in full costume minus the cowl just looks off to me. I don’t get the purpose of it, an added removable cowl would have been better, jmo.
It was really common in the Bronze Age. This is from Detective #400, the first Man-Bat story, with art by Neal Adams and Dick Giordano.
They pulled an image from the DC Style Guide for the card art, and you even see him like this in the Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians episode "The Fear". So there's definitely a precedent for it.
I don't have one in hand yet, but a lot of people don't seem to like it. From here, I can see the resemblance to the original Super Powers Batman, with that jutting square jaw. I think the beady black eyes are kind of throwing it off a bit.
Okay thank you for the picture. Did the figure come with the cowl attached to the back of cape like on the card art? you can’t tell from the front, just curious.
I really love the Bruce Wayne Batman, but not to sound like a complete idiot, is that how he comes with no cowl ? or does he come with a removable cowl? that would be cool.
EE is also processing my 6 pack order. I wasn't expecting them so early and I hope the crowd funded stuff arrives soon too.) I'll probably put Lobo with my DC animated figures.
