This was also one of my favorites. It was nice to take a break from the prison/town storyline for an episode.Comment

I wouldn't have picked the backpacker up... This is a have or have not situation and no one can be trusted. Rick tried that a few times and got burned badly. Rick asking Morgan to come with him is different, he is familiar with Morgan(he helped Rick a year or less ago) to understand he's an asset, even in his deteriorated state. A random guy on the side of the road, no chance and it just is a plot event to drive that feeling of desperation home a little more.
This was one of my favorite episodes, and hope for more like this.Expectation is the death of discovery.Comment

Not picking the backpacker was one thing, but to take his backpack after he gets eaten alive by their non actions, was a low down dirty dog thing to do...so screw them...they have been reduced to be no better than roaches, lol.
And screw Morgan...annoying and obnoxious loon (good actor though).
Amen, lol.Last edited by Hector; Mar 5, '13, 1:50 PM.sigpicComment

Humanity is dead. They are no better than cockroaches, it's true. That's why they have survived.
Besides, that guy didn't need his backpack anymore. Why let it go to waste? He was a clod, so it's probably full of coloring books. Haha!Expectation is the death of discovery.Comment

I will defend the abandonment of the backpacker. First in this world Rick has been burned by letting new people near (the guys in the bar last season, Thomas in the prison) and the Gov and woodbury showed anything can be dangerous. And I probably wouldn't have stopped either.
As a real world example ask yourself what you do when you see a person hitchhiking or broke down on the side of the road. Do you stop and help or drive on (maybe you take the extra step to call the local police to report it). I can tell you from personal experience even before cell phones (today we assume everyone has one and can call for a tow) I have been on the side of the road with a steaming engine and been there for hours before a cop stopped (sometimes I even saw police pass by) especially before cells wer common (80's)
Even today if my kids are with me I won't stop for fear of the potential psycho. I will call the police but thats as far as I go.
So in their world no way am I putting someone I don't know behind me in the back seat with my son.
and after he was ripped apart the backpack is just material the same as the car they were driving - you do what you have to to survive
Loved them tying up the Morgan plot line form season 1 and seing all the scralls on the wall. A sign of what isolation does to peopleComment

I think they talked about that scenario on Talking Dead and they all agreed that they would have likely picked up a woman or a kid. The possibility of being attacked would be less.
But it wasn't a woman or a kid. It wasn't even a character. It was a faceless guy who was clearly a noob. It was meant to show how far down the hole they are.Expectation is the death of discovery.Comment

I agree. You just have to watch a couple of episodes of I, Survived to know it's not a good idea to help strangers. As pessimistic as that is it can turn to **** real fast and next thing you know you're trying to save you or your family's life from a psychopath.Comment
