I learned today that the figures are now available for pre-order on the Disney EU site, but won't be available for shipment until October. After examining the situation - releasing this set in the morning in middle of the week when people have to work, and selling out so quickly (even with the limit of one per customer, and despite a higher production run) - it's my theory that Disney allotted FEWER Fantastic Four figures for the US website than the initial Spider-Man set, in order to to accommodate for the Disney Parks stores and the European website release. Perhaps Disney was hoping far fewer people would order from the US website? Who knows? But however you look at it, it's pretty bad that people are forced to resort to these measures and costs to obtain these figures.

Is there some new info out there? Are people whose orders are still unfilled/in progress getting some additional info such as fulfillment or shipping dates?

I'm happy to be able to say that I now have a Fantastic Four set! I had tried on the day they were released, had one in my basket, but they sold out while I was in the process of checking out. So when I submitted my order, a "Sorry, your order can't be processed" message came up. Very frustrating.

Fortunately, I'm in Southern California for Comic Con, and was able to make a trip to the Avenger's Reserve in Downtown Disney, where they had plenty sitting on the shelves. So, a set is now in my possession. Finally!

I think, too, that the absence of a new figure--like Dr. Doom or Sub-Mariner--dulled excitement.

Too many people burned by that experience, I imagine. It's not for the faint of heart, or even the semi-casual fan.

I don't mind something being exclusive to a store or a website but make enough, or equal quantities to national releases, of them for all of the fans.

    Exclusive quantity is a killer.

And enough is enough with all the repaint variants!

Too bad this message board doesn’t have a thumbs up feature. There have been a bunch of posts I’d like to “like,” but I didn’t feel like I should quote them all simply in order to give an upvote.

Anyway, my oldest daughter ordered the FF set at the same time I did. In fact, she offered to give it a shot after I was already in the queue. She logged on as a guest, and got placed in the queue around 175 places ahead of me. How does that make any sense? But I’m glad she did. Her order was confirmed before mine, and got a shipping notice later that day or the next day.

The set she ordered for me arrived on Thursday. Problem is, she’s in Virginia, while I’m in Massachusetts. The torture continues!

We’ll see what happens with my order that is still in progress.

As someone who shops a lot at Disney take it from me, they're all about exclusivity. It's become like their middle name. I get it, I guess; it makes people buy stuff because they assume it will be worth $$$ on the secondary market. By the time they learn that is not always the case, it's too late.

But can I say how much I hate it? Everything doesn't have to be a limited edition; it doesn't make it more fun to collect or own, for me, anyway. And it doesn't make up for the way shopping has become a chore rather than a pleasure.

I'm tired of my shopping being turned into an 'event'. I just want to buy the thing.

I tried to sign up for a Disney pin-buying event a couple of years ago. I didn't want to, but I really, really wanted some of the pins. Then I found out it was $40 to sign up, never mind the cost of the pins. Or you could pay double and go ahead of all the people who only paid $40. And the pins you wanted might be gone before your turn came up. And 2 of the ones I wanted were in those awful blind boxes.

So, no, I didn't go there. I bought the pins I wanted on the secondary market, though there's still one I'm trying to track down.

The one thing Disney does right, IMO, is to put a purchase limit on this stuff.

My set is still in progress, due on August 15th, even though no communication ever said "back order". But at least it isn't cancelled...yet!
