While there's a logic to being out in the middle of nowhere, it's also done for budgetary reasons. Shooting in a city means, well, shooting in a city and paying a lot more people, taxes, etc...

I'm with Random. If something like this did go down, areas of DC would be the most secure in the nation and at the same time, the most dangerous just a few blocks down the road. That should be the second series.

They don't have to worry about the walker's blood getting in their eyes or mouths, since the "walker virus" isn't transmitted. Remember, they're all infected as it is. Having said that, the rot of the zombies would have to pose other environmental and health problems as you guys are mentioning. I wouldn't be killing them along the fence-line simply because of the stench they must create!

And the kid that died coughed up whatever disease he died from into their shower water. But who knows what it is, or how it's transmitted. Regardless, there's a walker in the prison and everyone's asleep!

I thought about the stench thing before and you would get used to it after a while and you wouldnt even notice it there. Same when you have those hoarders that have animals that died under the rubbish in their homes. That one lady that had a skunk in her garage under all the mess. I used to have a cat litterbox in my bedroom for my sister' cat, and I cleaned it all the time but anytime someone came in they could smell cat odour but I must have been used to it as I couldnt smell it at all.

As far as a replenished supply, that wont happen because most of the world are zombies already.

Funny you say that.

I was watching the Last Season marathon, and they tried to explain that when Milton says "They decompose slower than we do".

My biggest pet peeve with the show is we're heading into Lost territory, where the writer/producers do not have the answers to questions Kirkman never raised, so they're going to play "one-up" with the audience. You ask about decomp, they throw in a line. Eventually, they'll contradict themselves and the shark will be jumped. I have a feeling the baby will have some type of antibody and only kids will be able to not reject it. I don't read the comic, so I have no idea where they've gone.

The fact the sky is not full of blowflies, or how they haven't encountered a wall of maggots, defies any logic.

I mean, the general populous knows a helluva lot more about decomposition because of all the CSI/Law & Order crime shows, it's head-shaking how none of these people are aware of the basics.

As Iron Mego said, you could smell these guys in degrees. The heavier the stench, the closer they are. Same with flies.

You could always go far north and lead them into winter freezing weather where they cant move and then you could lop heads to your hearts content!
I just dont want to see the virus spread outside the human species. I read a some novels by Brian Keene where everything was infected and there is just no way out.

Seems I recall reading that whatever the zombie "virus" is, it changes the composition of the flesh slightly so that insects are not as attracted to eating it, thus the decomposition is changed to just natural wear & tear? Was that in the WW Z books? Don't remember where I read that. It must also change the bone/ skeletal structure as well , explaining why it's much easier to crush a zombie skull by stomping on it or hitting it with a club.

Something that bugs me about zombies in general is the virus being transmitted through biting. WHy the teeth? People have had zombie guts and all kinds of blood and body parts all over them, probably some of those people had open wounds but they are fine. As soon as they bite you you're done? When did they get the power to secrete zombie venom from their incisors? All undead films suffer from what I consider to be a falacy. If there's a logical and explainable theory for this please let me know.

Well, that doesn't happen in this show at least. Dying is the only thing that turns you into a walker, regardless of how it happens.

There was a character in season one who got bit in the abdomen and was left on the roadside to turn. Andrea's sister was bit on the arm and turned. As soon as the dude in the prison was bit in the shoulder they killed him before he could turn. The first question asked in the first episode was "were you bit?" I just don't understand how a bite turns people into walkers. Of all the things that defy logic on the show, that's the biggest one for me.

And Hershel was also bitten by a walker, but they amputated his leg higher up to get rid of any infection that could kill him. Remember, they can't just go pick up antibiotics any old time they want, so simple infections can be deadly. By that time they knew it wasn't caused by bites, or a virus the walker's carried. They may have thought that at the beginning, but by the time they left the CDC Rick knew the truth, and let the rest know by the time they got to the prison.
