Honestly though, this new era when the real heroes are reserved for movies and TV gets the pale imitation of heroes dressed in civilian clothes sucks. We're all trying to make the best of it and milk some kind of entertainment out of these shows. It's like trying to convince yourself tofu bacon tastes good.

10 years of Smallville and no Superman. We've got this new Gotham series announced with a young Jim Gordon and no Batman. This Shield thing at least has some stills from the movies and some action figures in a window, but c'mon....

In the 90s Lois and Clarke was a soap opera, but at least it had a real Superman. After that you have to go back to the seventies for real super heroes on TV.

    Thank god for animation.

I agree. It wasn't a home run, but I think it has potential.

TV.com just ran a bracket-like competition for Best TV Pilot of the Last 15 Years and they reached the same conclusion.

^Yeah, that was a great line. I also liked Coulson's line about hiding in the corner with a bulb out.

BTAS had a great first episode in "On Leather Wings", but it actually previewed with "The Cat and the Claw" as a Saturday morning premiere, and that is one of the weakest episodes of the entire series. Then you had clunkers like "I Have Batman in my Basement" in between great ones like "Heart of Ice" so it was a mixed bag at first.

Star Trek started out with "The Man Trap". Not many's favorite episode.

Favorite line in S.H.I.E.L.D. was the one about "Ready to join our journey into mystery?" A great reference to the old Marvel stalwart title through the 60's

^I think that was the point. Those two are supposed to be annoying, and we, and the other agents aren't supposed to understand them. It's like Whedon's run-on pop-culture talk, but with made-up techno jargon.

Could anyone understand the dialogue delivered by the S.H.I.E.L.D. lab team?
This was of particularly annoyance to me, and I'm someone who loves me some ST:TNG technobabble .

Would have to agree with some of Sterenko's points, not so much with some other things said there.

I found it soft, almost like it was trying to make me not care. Some of the characters are made with the CSI/NCIS cookie cutter.

Not done with it yet but kind of lukewarm to something I was excited about.

In his THR debut, the comics veteran says the ABC series sorely missed the attitude of Samuel L. Jackson, asking "Who in hell am I supposed to root for?"

Now if S.H.I.E.L.D. was chasing Godzilla like they did back in the 70s,they might have something.

    Exactly.

I'm not trying to attack your seven year old, it's just the best quote to reflect several posters comments on the subject. I've read the "Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.E.I.L.D." comics off and on, back when Nick Fury was still white, and some of the older issues from the seventies. The big name heroes don't appear that often in S.H.E.I.L.D., from what I remember.

I'm so dense I didn't see the flying car thing coming until just before it happened! I was smiling ear-to-ear. That was awesome.

Yeah, there's something interesting going on there. I just hope they don't ruin it by trying to get to 'cute' and fool the audience. Or make Coulson evil.
