Yeah, AOShield is pretty predictable. The only agent that fills the screen when she's on is Ming but I still like it. It has an 80's Knight Rider/A Team feel to it. Gets in, gets out, nice and easy. And I am a Coulson fan so that helps. I like his humanity.

I watch Arrow too, It's good but not as much fun. NO one on that show is happy. And it can be so brutal. Maybe I'm just getting old. Dark and gritty can't/shouldn't be standard for every Hero based show/movie. Like a lot of people, I thought Man of Steel was a great/well done movie but it wasn't a lot of fun.

And AOS has set up future storylines in almost every show. When Smallville started it was the "Kryptonite villain of the week show" for the first season.

I'm willing to give it some more time. See where they go. I'm hoping for a Black Widow app. as the Cap movie gets closer. Maybe even Cap.

I remember when Star Trek had the opportunity to foreshadow the events of a movie coming out on TV was Spocks app on the TNG before the release Star Trek VI.

Hopefully TPTB do the same thing.

Can't believe I'm saying this but I kind of wish they would use the version Fox had as a basis.

I had some hope, but there's a lot of Marvel overhype. I said from the start, no one really cares for Coulson outside of a few loud fanboys and that's bearing out.

The problem is really simple. Disney will not allow the show to exploit characters or storylines that may effect the movies, because those are the cash cow. Someone in the chain is looking at which characters they may not have a use for and giving the go-ahead, but they're weighing it against how it effects other properties. For example, is Graviton going to come across as a B-Grade Magneto, and will it dilute Magento's value to Fox? Does that lead to a lawsuit and Fox grinding Marvel productions to a standstill? If the rights revert, that means Marvel/Disney just inherited a heavily exploited franchise that needs at least 200 million in production and marketing behind it. All because Graviton's visual effects would look identical to Magento's.

You can see this in the Netflix Defenders series. It's all standard action/thriller episodic with scant effects. Turn back the clock ten or twenty years, and these are syndicated shows fighting against Hercules, Xena and Trek. Marvel has a "no blood" policy in effect, so how gritty can they be? And the reason it's at Netflix is because of the insane deal Netflix signed with Disney for exclusivity.

It's funny, because as long as WB/CW follows the Smallville model with Arrow, they win. The only limits WB put on Smallville was about using the suit due to the Superboy/Salkin/Siegel legal mess and Jon Peters holding the movie rights. The only characters they wouldn't allow were Batman, Wonder Woman and GL, because of movie rights.

EDIT: For anyone looking for precedent for my Graviton/Magento example, just go read the mess around Mutant X. While that was more overt in branding, Marvel and Fox are going to be weary of bleed over. That's mostly where all this Inhumanity/Inhumans comic reinvention stems from; so Disney has their own mutant franchise.

They've mentioned a couple of times now that they have a list of super powered people, if they don't start using them and having them already established names not new made up for this show characters, this show won't last. It doesn't have any focus and has little or no connection to the Marvel Movie world that it was hyped on. Less brain work and more action.

I'll second that. Skye is pretty but boring, the science duo are squeaking by on the cutesy name thing, and I can't even recall the name of the tough guy agent right now. What happened to Tim Reid as the SHIELD version of Q? They should dump the plane & crew, team Coulson & Melinda up as field agents, and send them out fighting Hydra menaces in Lola. Be good at least for a few "Avengers" jokes.

As it is, it's not long for TV. as someone said already, there's nothing compelling enough to make me want to tune in again next week. Unlike a few other series, such as Arrow, Grimm, Person of Interest.
What they really need is a good villain to take away some of the plain vanilla of the team agents. if they want to play this series as a secret agent show, someone at Disney needs to look at some reruns of Man From Uncle or Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. Even a Mission Impossible style would help. The arch villain of the week made the show, not the heroes. Where is Victor Buono when you need him?

Yup, told the wife last night that I don't think I'll bother recording it anymore. Might catch it OnDemand when we don't have anything else to watch, but if it gets canceled I won't shed any tears.

I think AoS would have benefitted from a bigger rotating cast. Maybe Coulson pulls specialists for specific missions, not the same group. It seems like they are the only SHIELD agents out there at times. I'm sure that would have made the show harder to wrangle, but more interesting to watch. None of the new characters have grabbed me as yet.

I'm trying but I'm not into it. It's in a great sandbox but not able to play with any of the toys.

Also having trouble liking the characters, my DVR is piling up with episodes I probably won't watch.

I haven't seen the last 3 or so episodes. I came to it's defense early, but it's yet to really get past that initial "meh". Not bad, but not spectacular.

Next week is the second real test.

It somehow ties in post-Thor 2. If the numbers don't move up after a huge opening weekend, then this is their new normal.
