^^^^ Nobody (here) said anything about the concepts behind all the superheroes or their believability factor.
It was a crappy story and poorly executed.
    Period.

This is from another comic forum I belong to. Thought it was brilliant.

    "QUOTE (Julian Lytle @ Feb 1 2009, 04:59 PM)
Man I caught up on this thread. WHOA!

    one note about this universe

this is a universe where there is an alien from a world that blew up can now do anything. He can move a planet, see the smallest thing, fly, move super fast and was raised by good people in kansas. Also in this world a woman made of clay who won a tournament on an island full of women who talk to greek gods, who by the way are real, goes to the modern world to teach peace. oh and she has a lasso that makes you tell the truth and spins around to change into costume. Also in this universe little blue people give out rings that can harness will power to make whatever object a being can think of. They fight other people with different color rings based of concepts like love, fear, or anger.

    Y'all following me.

In this universe there is a character that is wrath of the judeo-christian God. and he's in a super team sometimes. also there is a bunch of gods that fight each other and are on two neighboring planets and get around with magic iphones. There is a man dressed up as a BAT! He takes tween age kids out that can beat up grown *** men and women that kill people. There is a man that can outrace death and steal your speed. There is a group of young people in the future that teams up to protect the galaxy because they read some stories about an alien boy who put on some too tight clothing and a cape and started saving the world because he can do anything. then they asked him to join their crew. this same crew has a machine that make wishes come true.

and people are mad because a writer working in the great big story of the DC Universe dug through some back issues and used an old machine that was essentially in Brainy's garage. Grant Morrison didn't make that up. Just like Johns never made up Sodam Yat or the Blackest Night.

If bugged out things aren't happening in my DC comics then for me I shouldn't be reading them all that stuff I just typed is crazy. It plantanas. off the wall like michael jackson. But that is why I read a superhero book. I son't want realism, I live in the real world. I can't relate to superheroes, no one has super powers. Thats why I enjoyed it. It read like a tv show, modern tv has fast editing and jump cuts. and no transisition. 24 has no tranisitions, it has cliffhangers.

I don't get it why its bad to have Superman sing a song to get rid of Darkseid that's fly to me. And whats wrong with Superman using Kandor bottle shrinking tech to shrink people and store them for later when the danger has passed. And whats wrong with Superman using a piece of future tech to save reality. He's Superman saves the universe because he's the ultimate good guy. And he had help from a bunch of other versions of himself led by his biggest golden age competor. The monitors go away cause its 2009 and its time to move on from Crisis and monitors just like anger dick head Miller Batman is a symbol for the 80s and modern comics so they are gone time to make new hottness like Green Lantern and maybe someone will make a Super young team book featuring Sonny Sumo."

I've read some reviews and while I think I have a little better understanding of what Morrison was trying to, I'm not sure that an "event booK" was the best showcase for it and I (like a lot of people) was very underwhelmed. Morrison seems to work best when off in a more isolated part of the DC Universe (Animal Man) or on a one shot (Arkham Asylum).

And yes, apparently Bruce is stuck in time with Anthro. So no, he's not dead but all of the angst about him eventually regaining the cowl will still be there and I still have dropped Batman and Detective from my pull box.

I can only hope that whatever drugs Grant Morrison is taking (and apparently has shared with DC editorial, such as it is) allow him to make sense of this convoluted mess for hs own enjoyment, 'cause it's certainly not for mine.

Not sure that's really Batman? The whole using the gun thing just seems wrong, but then again, I only read comics, I'm no genius like Morrison.

Seriously, I have no idea who about 50% of the new characters are, I have no idea how Batman got out of the torture device he was in, I have no idea how Batman ended up fighting Darkseid, I have no idea where Captain Marvel came from, I have no idea where Superman came from or why he was in the future, I have no idea how Hourman was on a triage table then three pages later he was back in action, I have no idea where Lex Luthor came from, I have no idea what was going on with Hawkman & Hawkgirl, I have no idea what happened with Wonder Woman infecting people, I have no idea why Lois Lane is carrying a cat around...

But basically I have no idea why I actually paid cash money for this book.

    THANK YOU!!!!

I'm glad it's not just me. This has got to be one of the most convoluted and incoherent comics I've read since GM's Doom Patrol garbage.
I really don't know why I keep buying this book. I guess I just keep hoping there's a payoff at the end. I have #7 but havent read it yet and havent finished reading this thread either. I agree with every one of your statements.
    Rich

update: just sat down and read #7......ummmm......yeah.......ok.......
Sorry, but I felt like I just wasted $28. Might as well have taken that money and flushed it down the toilet.
Nothing changed that I can see. Nothing resolved. More questions than answers. That series jumped around so much from page to page that I had no clue what was going on 99% of the time.
I didn't even know who some of the characters were and I've been reading DC comics for over 35 years!
I felt like I picked up a Marvel comic (I never read Marvel anymore) and had no clue about what was going on or who the characters were.
    Horrible.
Dc should be ashamed and offer full refunds.
I dropped Green Lantern a few issues back and i was one of the biggest Hal Jordan fans begging for his return. Might, BIG might, pick it back up for Blackest Night but I don't know yet.
I have no idea who's dead, who's alive... WHO'S WHO!!
    Very, very, very, very disappointed.
Even the last page was stupid. So Batman got sent back to prehistoric times or something? At least that was the presumption. So who's body was charred?
    Sad state for DC.

    Dude, chill.

I didn't mean it as a slam. I'm getting a mostly negative vibe from folks on this one, so I started my post assuming this. If you enjoy it, more power to you. The fact that someone actual likes it means that all of this isn't for nothing.

The rainbow lantern stuff has been really good. However, if Johns isn't careful there is the real possibility that the story could end with the power ring version of the "care bare stare".

All right. Just finished FC 7 and while I don't think it's confusing, and I didn't feel like I wasted my money, I'm underwhelmed. Up to 7, the story had been linear. If it took another issue to keep that consistant then add another issue. The past tence narrative from Supergirl and Wonder Woman just killed the tension that had been built into the story. Up till that point the story had this increadable feeling of this inevitable fall and tumble into darkness. Of being pulled and squeezed and the same time. You throw in a flash forward like that and you kill the tension. I also didn't think it was Mahnke's best work, but considering the schedule the book was on he did a great job just getting it out. I think I will always wonder what FC would have been if JG Jones could have finished the job. "sigh"
Things I liked. 52 Supermen from 52 universes coming together is pretty damn cool. 52 Supermen using GL formed chains to pull the Earths back into their proper symmetry is pretty damn cool. Superman destroying Darksieds spirit/soul with a song is awesome. But the thing I liked most was what I think is the point of FC. That the story is enough and that "monitors" poison the story.

^^^Yeah, I'll gladly part with my money for Morrison's work over the rainbow Lantern crap and the yipee return of Barry Allen. Wonder if Wally's getting the shaft? Bet he gets all bitter and becomes the new Professor Zoom or some such nonsense.

    I lOVED RIP!

Batman did make an appearence at the end of RIP. If you recall, there was the scene, I believe 6 months after the helicopter explosion, of the Batsignal seen through a skylight in a building that the "Quasimodo" character was going to torture some policemen. Technically, that lets us know that Batman was back, but an Image type splash page of Batman in an iconic pose would have make things clear.
From there we go to Final Crisis Nos. 1 & 2. Batman investigates the scene of Orions murder. Later he's examining Orion's body when Granny Goodness (possesing the Alpha Lantern, Kraken) abducted Batman and took him to Darksied's lair at the Bloodhaven site. There Batman was plugged into the Lump (obscure Kirby creation). The Lump works something like the black flowers that Mongul slapped on Superman. Lump's job was to break down Batman's mental defences so that Darksied's goons could use Batman as a template for a clone army (this was the two issue FC crossover in Batman's title "Last Rights"). Batman defeats the Lump and Darkseid's goons and then destroys the clone army.
Batman was carrying the Time/God bullet that Darksied shot Orion with. He picked it up when investigating the scene of Orion's murder, and had intended on examining it later. Once Batman was free of the Lump he found his way to Darksied and offed the ******* using his own bullet.
I haven't had the PLEASURE of reading FC #7 yet. I'll HAPPILY pick the book up tomorrow morning.

Is that even correct to say anymore ?

.. But Yeah,.. I don't really even Like Her..., I mean Whats the Point ? As her Character Done Anything After being created-/ re-created ? Anything of any great importance , other than Being the Topic of the Mainsteam News Frenzy because of Her Sexual Preferance ? I seriously dunno,.. I have yet to see anything that impacts the DC Universe... Perhaps I just don't read those books, if She did.

Agreed, but too many people think Morrison is the new Messiah of DC. Don't get why, none of what he's doing makes any sense to me. Back when he did Animal Man, that was all new and good, but somewhere along the line this guy has veered off into la-la land, yet he's still touted as being so wonderful.

Granted, his JLA revival started out great, then he got into this "big plan" stuff leading to a huge letdown as a finale. In that case everyone in the world got powers to help fight off the end of all that is. Now in this fiasco, after all the build-up and destruction, everything is fixed because Superman wished it to all be better. How lame.

Deux Ex Machina, Mr Morrison. DC even publishes a book by the same name.

agreed, the newer bat characters have all sucked....except maybe Batwoman, man is she hot....too bad she hits for the other side
Robin was cancelled because of whatever will happen with the battle for the cowl. My guess is it will be Dick as Batman and Tim will still be Robin....until next year when they do the big return of the bat storyline, that is sure to come.
this whole story line along with final crisis sucked. it was a confusing mess and grant morrison should be fired.

I haven't read read anyone this yet , but i have been getting the fine points from those who have . I have a few of the issues from the crossovers , but I dont get the story that i've been told . I also hear that DC is cold turkey stopping all the sub-bat titles , No more batgirl, Robin, or Nightwing issues. I have to wonder whats going on over there at DC . Its no wonder as much as I love the DC characters I never found their books more enjoyable than Marvel's.
