Toy commercials
Toy commercials are still strong but not so much for action figures except for Spidey and Batman. Other than Hotwheels involving race tracks most commercials both serve as advertisements for cartoons and building product identity. We still have the Barbie and doll commerials. Create a stop motion or CGI derivitive and you might have a reason to make EMCE DC retro action commercials. I still remeber the old Mego commercials but Superfriends was airing at the same time. I would love to see a commercial for DC Retro - Action.Comment

Thanks for the update Paul. I'm glad I'm not a little kid anymore, July would feel like FOREVER .
This isn't addressed to Paul, but to everyone....Why do you think Toy Companies dont advertise any more? I mean besides the obvious...expensive...THere were commercials, and adds everywhere when I was a kid....adds in Comics, catalogs, now nuthin....the only time I see anything at all its in the Sunday paper and thats not the Toy company advertising its the store...like Target, or Walmart.....Kids have nuthin to get excited about........Comment

NOPE they don't even have cartoons.Comment

That's true.
The only cartoons that run on regular (non-cable) channels are Family Guy, Simpsons, Cleavland Show and American Dad. The kid stuff is all on Cable. Toy commercials really are targeted for the kid shows, not just cartoon shows... think Hanna-Montana, iCarly and Drake & Josh, etc. (I have teens). That's where many of these types of commercials run now.

On the subject of Wave 1, 2 and 3 all being on TRU pegs at the same time.. and with the utmost respect for Doc.. I just don't see this playing out as it's being envisioned (time will tell I guess).
If each of these waves ship in their own case assortments (the way Mattel produces all of their lines), then how would TRU be able to keep an even amount of "assortment" waves on the floor at any given time.. when TRU must take delivery of one specific case assortment(s)? TRUs re-orders are auto-filled, so the way a new shipment of product gets triggered is by that product being sold down to a set level (a very low level by the way).
So, when Wave 2 starts to hit and people buy it the most (which they will) then wave 1 figures/cases start to sit around longer, while Wave 2 figures (assortment case) get the re-orders. Ultimately wave 1 assortment cases will be left in the pipeline unsold and Mattel will need to cease production. The imbalance between waves (assortments) will more than likely be an automatic natural state (for TRU stores).
Just my opinion though.

It's entirely possible that TRU isn't/can't order by the wave; they just order the line and Mattel delivers what Mattel delivers (this is how Target got stuck with case after case of wave 1 of their Justice League Unlimited line, when Mattel couldn't deliver wave 2 on time). They've said specifically that retailers don't order a specific wave of DC Universe figures. So TRU may simply get whatever Mattel sends them.Comment

That's true too. Which is another possible reason I don't envision multiple figures from multiple waves hanging at TRU.
However, if the various waves (assortments) do end up being produced at the same time, and thus possibly available at TRU at the same time (which I find really hard to believe knowing Mattel) then it's probable that TRU will need to manage re-stocks of these figures by individual item numbers directly connected to case assortment numbers. That is to say all Wave 2 figures being sold will always trigger Wave 2 case number re-orders when stock is low. Weather Mattel can fill those specific case orders is another thing.

The TRU here in Hawaii had a small section (2 pegs next to all the other Mattel DCU merch) for the WGSH line. I managed to snag a Sinestro for $23 and then went home and got another Sinestro and a Luthor of eBay for much less, even with shipping. If the TRU's are only putting a small amount in the stores they really won't be able to tell if it sells well. I work at a comic shop and the guys who order the comics have a similar strategy that I think stinks. They order a gazillion copies of anything with "X" in the title and and then maybe 3 copies of stuff like The Goon or Jonah Hex. On comic day those copies sell out as soon as they hit the shelves but X-crap is still all over the place. TRU is just palying it safe like any business should in a recession but I wish they'd just put a little more into WSGH.
Speaking of comics, I can't believe the DC comics haven't had any ads for WSGH.Comment

At this point I'd be satisfied to see a single complete set at any of the TRU stores in my area. They must have sold out of the heroes almost immediately, and the restocking seems to be going very, very slowly for all of the figures. One store I spoke to said they've only gotten one shipment in since the line came out. I was able to get Lex and Sinestro locally, but I finally broke down and ordered the two heroes online. All in all, I paid slightly more for them, but it was worth it to avoid driving another 50 miles because a misinformed or lazy store employee tells me, "Yeah, we have all of those in stock."I don't think I'm even going to bother looking for any more of the waves in the store. While it is thrilling to walk in and see them on the pegs, it's just too easy to have them arrive on your doorstep a few days after you pay for them . . . and with no shelf wear to boot.

Mattel wouldn't place ads.. and I don't think it's a huge profit margin product for TRU to spend ad money on.
