I collect Meos, because its the one toyline I miss from my childhood. When I started all I wanted was a RC Batman and Robin.

The RC Batman is what led me to the museum. I had some questions on how to remove the marker from his face. So many great people offered their help, and made me feel at home.

My humble Mego quest for 2 Megos has bloomed into a hobby that has no end, and a ton of great friends I have made at the museum.

Think B.A. Where did you hide the Megos?

Ok, Fess up! When you gonna tell everyone the real truth here? The evidence from the C.S.I. lab will soon show that you put knock out drops in his Kool aid and surrounded him by some cool Mego's. Man, Some people will do anything to win a contest these days. hahaha Seriously, That is a cool picture. Your picture is really what collecting and having fun with Mego's is all about. Best of luck to you.

My reason for why I collect Mego's is mainly because they are just t-totally friggin awesome for one thing. I will stand toe to toe and face to face with anyone who would try and dispute other wise. When I look at a Mego body I look back and think how advanced Mego was for their time. Such fine detail that went into creating such a neat toy. The thought that went into creating them is amazing to me for their time. It also makes me think back to my child hood when I used to tote my favorite Mego's with me all the time which was the P.O.T.A's. I even managed to save some of the old Polaroid's (long ago of course before digital cameras were even dreamed of) taken of my child hood with me and my Mego's. The pictures are around here some where in my massive collection of pictures. (make note to self to find pictures instead of just typing about them) Collecting Mego's certainly reminds me of some of the fun times in my child hood. Where time seemed like it stood still and my imagination ran wild. The simple things that were used back in the days to create scenes of my Mego's battling one another on the bed with the covers made into caves and etc. Humming the tunes of my favorite TV show Batman and Robin. They serve as memories that remind me of the countless hours spent posing and playing with the original figures and playsets that I had as a kid. Collecting Mego's especially reminds me of when going to my Grandparent's (who are long deceased) I always knew what I could expect to find in their hall way closet. I used to could not wait to get to my Grandparent's house I can remember going to my Grandparents house on numerous occasions. Especially at or around the holidays when the new store catalogs came out. My Grandparents had a haul closet full of all of the latest store catalogs from Sears, JC Penney, Service Merchandise, Dolgin's and those stores were just to name a few. I would pull them out and go straight to the toy sections of those catalogs. It was there of course I would find all of the cool pictures of the neat Mego action figures and play sets that I dreamed of owning some day. My Grandmother would look through the catalogs with me at the kitchen table and I would tell her which figures that I would like to have for Christmas. Those were indeed great times. I am most happy to know that there is still guys and gals out there like me that collect these awesome figures. While my short time on eBay I was asked the same question a lot by other eBay members (Museum members). The question being are you a member of the Mego Museum? And of course my reply each time would be: "Heck no.. that place is the lamest place on Earth. They are all a bunch of Millionaire's that know absolutely nothing about Mego's.....haha gotch ya!!....that of course was not my real reply BTW. After being asked that same question over and over I decided to head on over to the "place" called The Mego Museum to see what all of the hype was about. I am sure glad that I did. There is definitely some real cool and talented people here to interactive with whether they be Millionaire's or not. I have not even been here quite a year yet and I have already learned so much from The Mego Museum and it's cool members. I cannot help but think that in another 10 years or so a lot of us will be reading and remorsing about this thread as well as other history threads right here at the ever growing Mego Musuem. It has definitely been a fun experience and I am glad that I finally decided to get my booty on over here to see what I had been missing out on. A big thanks to all of those that kept asking me the question. I would and do encourage others to do the same. The Mego Museum is now my new home away from home. Ohh BTW...Did I mention that I am a Megoholic and that I love Mego's?
Enjoy what you like, and let others enjoy what they like. (C) Azrak 2009

            Why do I collect Megos?

Batman. He is the reason. I adored the character. I would watch Superfriends and be in awe of Batman. Mom would put
Batman comics in my Xmas stocking every year. I never saw the Adam West show. I didn't know anything about it. The Batman
with BatMite show didn't air here until I was 10. Superfriends and comics were my Batman exposure.

I was 5 and I saw a commercial on TV if I remember correctly. I think it was the one with Penguin stealing the Batmobile. That
was it. I saw the Batman Mego and was off. I HAD to have it! So, Mom being the way she is says to meet her at Zellers after
work and she'll get me Batman. Right on! I got out of school at 3:30, Mom got off work a 4:00 so I ran to Zellers which was
about a 5 minute walk from my school and went to the toy aisle and looked. Sure enough, at the top of the aisle, a case of
Megos. Superman, Aquaman, Robin and ONE Batman. I climbed up, picked up the Batman and just looked it over and was in awe at
the big picture of him on the back. The figure was beautiful. The ears were perfect. The boots were perfect. The belt was
perfect. I was beside myself. I didn't want to hold on to the figure because there was a nasty lady who worked there who would
kick you out of the store if you were hanging around so I decided to place him back in the display box at the very back.

I was getting impatient waiting for Mom so I looked around at some GI Joes or something when a kid about my age walked down the aisle
with his mom. I couldn't help but overhear what they were talking about. They were talking about getting him a toy. She was
obviously in a hurry and he was saying no to everything. So, being the way I was, I said to the kid: "Do you like Superheroes"? Then
showed him the Megos. He got excited so his Mom took down Aquaman.
            "Aquaman"? She said.
            "No, I don't like Aquaman".
She pulled down Superman. "How about Superman"?
            "No".
She pulled down Robin. "Look, Robin". "How about Robin"?
            "Nope".
She pulls down MY Batman. "Batman"?
            "Oh I LOVE Batman"!
And they walked away with MY Batman. I was devastated. I tried to help and my Batman was gone. I was so heartbroken I
just left and went home. I didn't even clue in that Mom was still on her way to meet me.

I was home maybe an hour when Mom walked in an asked where I was. Tears in my eyes, I told her what happend. Then she
handed me a Robin. It made it a little better but I was just sort of numb.

The next day I went to my friend's house to show him my Robin. Well he showed me his Batman and its mask came off!!!!!!!!! I was
trembling as he handed it to me and I pulled off the mask. This was the coolest thing I'd ever seen. I HAD to have it! Mom went
to every store within range but never found one.
For Xmas that same year I finally got Batman with Superman and the Batmobile. Followed at Easter with a BatCycle which I
adored. Mego Batman was my companion as I sat in front of the TV on Saturday morning watching cartoons amd eating Honeycomb
cereal. He went everywhere with me.

Some time after that I had a Big Brother from Big Brothers/Big Sisters and he drove me around for hours until I found Joker and
Penguin at Kresge. I loved these 2 and now Bats had someone to battle. I got a Heroes World comic from a comic shop and sent
them a letter asking if they Batgirl. They wrote back saying yes so I put in my order. I got another letter back saying they were
sold out. So I had to pick an alternate from a list they gave me. It took forever but I decided on Falcon. I just liked the look of
him. Imagine now, this took weeks of back and forth writing letters! It took about 2 or 3 months but I finally got him. It
cost $13.00 all told in 1979. lol.

Around this time, I found a bag of a couple Megos and some pieces and parts at a flea market. In the bag were a beat up Batman
and Superman. Still obsessed with RC Bats, 5 years later, I carved up the Baman head into a mask and used Supes as Bruce.
I still have the mask I made. I have to say, I did a fine job cutting the eyes out and trimming the inside of the nose. I had
little interest in any of the other Superhero figures. I was after all the Batman related stuff.

Fast forward 2 years. I'm now 12 and getting more into music and such. My cousin and I were big into exploring so we went to a
hardware store to pick up some rope to go rock climbing. My cousin went in one direction, I went in another. My cousin calls
out to me:"Come here, you have to see this"! I turn the corner and there's a WALL of Megos in boxes. I was in awe. I spent probably
close to an hour looking over all these figures I'd never seen. Green Arrow, Iron Man, those 2 stand out. I had enough to buy one
and finally decided on Greem Arrow. I still have him. When I got home, I told Mom all about it and she gave me enough to get 2 more.
I went back and agonized over who to buy. I thought IronMan's gloves were molded like the Thing's arms and didn't like that.
My Megos need removable gear. It's what made them so cool to me. I finally decided on Aquaman and Catwoman.
Had Batgirl been there, she would have been the first on the list!

I was obsessed with Megos. I had Apes for a short time and I loved them dearly. I never stopped collecting. I'd pick things up
here and there. I'd go to every Flea Market or yard sale I could get to looking and ever hoping to find a removable mask Batman. I
met a kid in grade 6 who had one. I tried to get him to sell it to me many times. I had a pretty good collection by the time I
was 25. But....still no RC Bats.

I was at college one day when I get a message to call my bass player. I call him at lunch and he tells me to call the collectible shop,
they had something for me. I was there right after class. I could feel my face getting hot as he handed me a RC Bats. I quickly pulled
off the mask to discover Superman's head but I didn't care, I had to have it. When I got home, I sat for at least 15 minutes going:
Mask on, mask off, mask on, mask off........I did finally get a head for him months later. RC Batman was an obsession for most of my
life and he is one big reason I collect Megos. They are just so fun, so charming... You can customize them, dress them in other
outfits, just marvel at their simple, yet perfect design. Feel the texture of their boots. I'll still take out a Mego Bats while falling
asleep watching Superfriends just like I did when I was 5 and I truly believe RC Bats is the single coolest action figue ever made.

You win. This pic is just awesome! What a geat feeling it must be for you to see your son like this. I envy you. My boys aren't really into them although my oldest has been bugging me periodically for a Mego Batman and Robin. Oh, and the Batman MUST be a RC version. lol.

why do I collect - Because I am obsessive and need to possess every cool toy in existance
megos - because they are simply the finest action figures ever made

                - they fit in your pocket
                - if you cannot find a character, you can make it yourself fairly easily or find someone who can
                - aj looks a lot like me in my 20s
                - they drive split window veedubs
                - it is amazing fun to play as a child with a child when you pass your toys on to your kids

I was riveted to my seat when I read your Mego story! You really captured in your words, just how it felt to be a kid growing up in the Mego Generation!!! I hope you win!

I can't believe you never got to see Adam West as BATMAN when you were little...but,
I can relate to the RC Batman eluding you all those years.

                  I had a parallel situation on a 1:1 scale.

Every kid I knew that was into Batman had one of these--but me. I just wanted to put one on, and never take it off!

Great story, Raydeen1. Oddly enough, my first Mego, the RC Batman was purchased at Zellers. I didn't take yours, honest. I wasn't even with my mom when she bought it for me.

                        "Why I collect Mego"
Well. . .I loved my megos. . .to death in fact, as evidenced by the remains of my original childhood megos in the picture here. I had a few others that survived a bit better (probably because they were my older brother's), Kirk, Tarzan and Bones. . .but they disappeared about 5 years ago. . . and these are all I have left.

THEY were the only real toys that really captured me. . .and I could play with them at infinitum. OK. . .these plus the Ghost Gun (thanks DonC) and my SMDM and Maskatron.

I remember the burning desire to get the Batman with the Mask that came off (as I told every Santa I saw that year (1974 or 1975). . . and then that X'mas I got my first Mego. . .BATMAN. . .it was the painted mask. . .and whilst that scar ran deep. . .it was also love at first sight, touch and play.

I never got to finish my play with them. . .as my older brother one day. . .didn't want to play anymore. . .before I had reached my saturation point. . . and so the flame remained flickering. . .the love and the desire. . . a love and desire I wished to share with my son and daughter. . .and THIS is why I collect MEGO's. . . the worlds GREATEST EVER TOYS!!

OH Yeah. . .and because of AussieMegoMeet2006 and friends like Cat, Thomas, Thunderbolt, Paul/Merlyn, DocDrako, John/TxTeach, Mitch, T1K Mikey, Hector, DonC, Black Knight, KingdomWarrior, JohnMiic, Seeker, Roger, Hotfoot, MegoSpidey. . . .the list goes on and on. . . .YOU all are also the reason I am still here today . . . .collecting and enjoying my MegoMadness / DollDementia!

                          WHY I COLLECT MEGO

Years ago I saw these fantastic figures advertised in DC Comics. I searched avery local toy shop looking for them but never found any. As I live in UK the thought of ordering them from the U.S. seemed much too difficult at that time

About 6 months ago I was reading some of my old back issues and saw the ad again, how times have changed! A quick google led me to this board, I started to collect the cards and then picked up figures that I could afford.

I now have Superman, 2 Batman, Robin and a Penguin - not in the best condition or complete but one day I will own better figures.

Collect 'em All.... I did finally manage to see Adam West when I was around 11 or 12. They showed the '66 movie on TV one night at like 1 am and Mom woke me up so I could watch it. My Mom was so cool. I remember the first time I saw that Batman helmet. It was only about 15 years ago. I would have died had I ever found one of those as a kid. lol.

I did find a rubber mask when I was 10 that was almost a full head covering mask. I told Mom I pretty much would die if I didn't get it so she gave me the money and I got one. I had it for years. I went in my closet one day when I was 18 to pull it out to show someone and the rubber had melted to iteslf and it was ruined. UGH. But I at least got to wear it for Halloween once.
