Why I collect Megos is to satisfy an obsession to collect that I've had since I was a kid. I started with Megos when I was about six and then moved on to Star Wars figures (my biggest collection). Later I began to collect baseball cards and even had a stamp collection. Even though I took a hiatus from collecting to get married and have kids, I could never bring myself to get rid of any of my favorite collections - Mego being one of them. One day I was showing my daughter some of my Mego figures in the attic and realized how much fun it was to show her. I started looking on ebay to find some missing parts for the figures and that was all it took - I'm obsessed with collecting Megos again!

Why?
probably single handedly because of a newsprint magazine I got years ago whilst "up-north" visiting my grandparents for x-mas.
I don't know that I ever remembered the name of said mag' but I think I still have it's remains in my parents basement.
It had an article about megos, and some low res. black and white pictures of probably incomplete megos. I was instantly taken with them. and they stayed in my mind until I slowly up'ed my collecting game by working my way through 90's toys to 80's toys to Megos.
that same magazine had an article about captain action, and the small Ideal superheroes. an oddly wonderous combination of vintage toy info for a grade school kid sometime in the late 80's/early 90's.
And I'm here because there's nowhere else I'd rather be.

Why i collect MEGOS? Put simply they remind me of a simpler time growing up in the mid 70s, When ever i feel down i look up by my computer and i see a type1 MR SPOCK which i have owned since Christmas 75, I rember all the good times in my backyard the adventures i had playing MR SPOCK as he explored my back yard aka an alien planet where he'd meet up with my friend Steves MEGOS live a ticked off alien DREADFUL MUMMY or a mean little brute of an alien who would only say Hulk SMASH!!!! He even had a run in on the planet of the apes. Yes good times So here i am today in my 40s regrowing my MEGO collection not only have i replaced all the MEGOS i had as a kid plus the ones my friends had that i didn't i have MEGOS i never saw as a kid like ROBIN HOOD,SUPER KNIGHTS,DR WHO, SPACE1999, when i look at the shelves of reboxed figures it's like a time machine and i'm 8 years old in the toy department at J.M FIELDS a much simpler time a good timeComment

I collects Mego because I thinks they are kewl.
I'm in my nerdy happy place when I is here. You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...Comment

Because they taste so good.
No, no but seriously... is this thing on? I'll be in the lounge all week.
Because they remind me of what I remember as being a simpler time. Where summers seemed to be endless. Now the years fly by at lighting speed. They capture the likeness of all the characters I grew up loving from Batman to Fonzie. The adventures I had in my imagination remain unsurpassed. Mego figures like these, my twelve inch Joes and Big Jims transport me however briefly back to that time. Back to where I could control the beginning middle and end of every story. The outcome was always within my universe, although I must say I even surprised myself at times with all the twists and turns.
That whole period for me brings an undeniable feeling of joy. I remember the thrill of running home from the street hockey game because Batman was on. I remember not realizing it was campy. To me it was Batman plain and simple.
The Mego figures capture the simplicity and innocence of these times in the unnasuming head sculpts and simple yet perfect costumes.
So for me they are a time machine. A time machine with a single very specific destination. They allow me to travel to and from that place at will.
What more could you want from a toy?Comment

Because as a Kid i could watch superhero cartoons, but not read comics or play with action figures. my parents wouldn't buy them for me. we lived out in the country so to speak and i couldn't walk anywhere and didn't have an allowance. even though i saw adds for Megos in the sunday funnies and wanted Batman robin green arrow and especially the Titans. i never got them. in my 20's i finally got a mr Spock and in my 30's got Dr Who and Leela. But even though i saw a Dr Mego catalog 10 years ago it has only been in the last 3 years i have tried hard to get my favorite Characters...The Teen Titans. yeah start off easy i did! I'm close to having my dream complete. a near complete Wondergirl, a complete Kid Flash and repro suited Speedy and Aqualad. Plus a complete GA,Batman,Aquaman and a suiit needed for Superman. a Custom Flash and a Put together Starman from the JSA. and now i'm trying to customize the other 70's era Titans for myself. with custom boards and boxes. So a Big Thank You to Mego Museum and the other collectors and customizers who have helped make a little boys dreams come true 3.5 decades later.
So why do i collect Mego's..... BECAUSE I CAN NOW !!!!!!"Hang on Lady... We go for a RIDE!" - Shorty to Willie Scott.Best movie line from Indiana Jones & the Temple Of DoomComment

They were the first toys I remember getting as a tot. I had the RC Bats and RM Robin. Some of my best Mego memories are of my dad having to restring them after the elastic broke in them. I got back into Mego after joining here for the customs section. So, basically I can blame this place for taking up a shelf in my house. And personally I want to win the tomato soup.
