Great story, Raydeen1. Oddly enough, my first Mego, the RC Batman was purchased at Zellers. I didn't take yours, honest. I wasn't even with my mom when she bought it for me.

i collect mego because it was the first time many characters were made into action figures. and the quality was definitly there.

Being of the female persuasion, I realize I might not have some of the same memories of comic books, and playing action figures w/ my friends that some of you do, but I did own 3 Megos as a child, (2 AJs and Lainie), and I watched a LOT of TV so I know the commercials, and a lot of the shows upon which most Megos are based. Those are happy memories for me. I love coming to this site, b/c it's not solely about Mego, but that inner child in all of us that loves to come out and play. Commercials, retro catalog items, photos of memories as kids from back in the day, give me (at the risk of sounding corny) the warm fuzzies. I've made some friends, and met a couple of members, and I love the feeling of being part of a community. I'm on this site everyday, (sometimes a few times a day), and it's become a part of my daily life!

I collect Megos to keep me in touch with the best time of my life.Megos in my childhood years ment hours of entertainment,fun and adventures.In adulthood Megos mean escape from real life.They are time away from work,chores, bills,being a parent,and even sometimes a husband(my loving wife is so understanding)The search is also a big part of it.Anybody could just go to EBAY and buy it now untill your broke.But the megos that come from the fleamarkets and garage sales are treasures earned.They are a chance to talk and visit with others that share the same joy.Thanks for Megos and the museum thats for them.WF07

Collect 'em All.... I did finally manage to see Adam West when I was around 11 or 12. They showed the '66 movie on TV one night at like 1 am and Mom woke me up so I could watch it. My Mom was so cool.

When you were watching the '66 movie for the first time, were you glued to the screen, breathlessly anticipating seeing Adam West put on his Bat Cowl?

So, what did you think, when 2 minutes into the movie, he (and Burt) mysteriously change into Batman and Robin by sliding down the BatPoles?

I was awestruck. I LOVED it.
I'd seen the batmobile at a car show years before and I saw a few pix from the show when I was older so I had a bit of an idea of the whole thing but when they came down the batpoles and got in the Batmobile, I was just in heaven. Then they showed the Batcopter and Batcycle.... Penguin, Riddler and Catwoman were awesome. I love Lee Meriwether as Catwoman. More my style than Julie Newmar. The jokes were cute, the sets were sweet and B and R were just how I'd hoped they'd be.

Of course, for the next week or so, everything was Batman. Pulled out my Megos, rode my Bike as a Batcycle.... lol. Being a kid was fun.
I tell my boys stories like this in hopes they'll go outside and play more and it works sometimes. Other times, they are video game zombies.

Oh and my Mom tried to make my childhood as good as it could possibly be. Having no Dad, she made sure she did as much as she could. She's just like that though. I think when she'd see the sheer joy on my face when I'd open say a Mego Batman, it just melted her. I'm the same was with my boys. I'll go out of my way to make sure they get what they want. Seeing the look on their faces when they get the new Optimus Prime or whatever, it just makes me all warm and fuzzy. Hahaha

Mego to me means lots of childhood memories. I didn't have too many dolls, but my guess runs about 15 or so total. I had the main Star Trek guys (no Uhura), a few Planet of the Apes like the Astronaut and Burke and I believe one of the gorillas, Action Jackson dolls, Frankenstein and Mummy, and some super heroes. I spent my time with my brother, who is 2 years younger than I am, and my cousin who lived up stairs, who is 2 years older. I remember him having the jail from PotA. One Halloween, my brother and I dressed up as devils. We had these plastic pitch forks, probably about 2 feet in length. What we'd do is put the pitchforks wedged between the matress and the box spring on the top bunk. Then we'd launch the dolls from the floor to hook on to either the stick part, or the fork part, or if there were dolls already up there, they would hook on their backs. Then the sad part. The pitchfork would begin to turn and the dolls would fall into our imaginary lava pit and die. Imagination of a child.

I love anything to do with Halloween and scary monsters. My goal is to acquire the monsters in the package/box. Probably something that will take awhile for me to do thanks to money, or lack of it. My mummy I melted his arm one night because I forgot that I hung him by the Mickey Mouse lamp I had (and still have in my basement) and his arm stuck to the lightbulb. We did get him off, but his arm was flat and the outfit was burnt at the forearm.

Anyway, like most collectibles, childhood is the reason most adults collect their old toys or comics or games. I'm a kid at heart and having these things brings back good memories.

Why I collect Mego?

It's because of those trading cards luring me to this site. I never heard of Mego prior to collecting the trading cards. I collect other types of toys so it was inevitable that I would start a collection of Mego action figures.

Collecting Mego brings out the child in me. As a novice Mego collector, it's encouraging when I find sweet deals to help build a collection.

I collect Megos because because it takes me back to my childhood growing up in the 70s.It brings back the memories endless summers and fantastic imagined adventures.

Well. . .I loved my megos. . .to death in fact, as evidenced by the remains of my original childhood megos in the picture here. I had a few others that survived a bit better (probably because they were my older brother's), Kirk, Tarzan and Bones. . .but they disappeared about 5 years ago. . . and these are all I have left.

THEY were the only real toys that really captured me. . .and I could play with them at infinitum. OK. . .these plus the Ghost Gun (thanks DonC) and my SMDM and Maskatron.

I remember the burning desire to get the Batman with the Mask that came off (as I told every Santa I saw that year (1974 or 1975). . . and then that X'mas I got my first Mego. . .BATMAN. . .it was the painted mask. . .and whilst that scar ran deep. . .it was also love at first sight, touch and play.

I never got to finish my play with them. . .as my older brother one day. . .didn't want to play anymore. . .before I had reached my saturation point. . . and so the flame remained flickering. . .the love and the desire. . . a love and desire I wished to share with my son and daughter. . .and THIS is why I collect MEGO's. . . the worlds GREATEST EVER TOYS!!

I collect Megos because they're awesome. They remind me of a time of innocence and fun. Megos are also a reminder of my childhood days gone by. Nothing will ever match the feeling I had on Christmas morning to find Spiderman, Hulk, Falcon and Green Goblin underneath the Christmas tree. It was pure excitement, and the magic lives on here at the Mego Museum.
