^^ For sure. You have to understand that all of the shows you mentioned HAVE to have some sort of pre-planning or they would be awful shows and wouldn't be on the air. I think as long as people understand that, and watch the shows simply to see/learn/enjoy it's a much different perspective. If you look at any one of the shows (Pickers, Storage Wars, Pawn Stars, Toy Hunter) can you imagine if there was no script, pre-planning, or editing? It would be so incredibly boring because the downtime is significantly more than the exciting stuff.

Even the last episode when Mark becomes the 'enemy competition' - those guys know that things work on a first come first serve basis, and I'm guessing if they bumped into each other in the same situation in real life, they'd laugh, shake hands, and move on. That's just not entertaining for 99% of the people who watch the show.

Really, I'm thankful that there's interest in these shows because I enjoy just seeing the stuff they find, and even learning a bit about something I may not have known. When I'm out and about hunting stuff, the more information I have- the better.

^^^ I think Jordan is very upfront about the fact these shows have to be scripted so there is a narrative for television. But the heart of the show is profiling the classic toy lines and offering backgrounds on them. It provides valuable insight into some lines and makes for enjoyable viewing. I have met one of the guys he has bought from and he says Jordon is very reputable in his transactions and is respectful of the process. So I think you might be heaping too much blame on Jordan for a format he ultimately does not have final say in. They can't just sit around a table and talk toys for 30 minutes. There has to be some entertainment structure to the show that pulls in more people than just the diehards. For granted, when the shows pull in celebrities, it becomes less about the hobby and more about the egos of the entertainer. But those moments are few and far between. So I don't feel like the show is in any way deceiving anyone. The story is just a pacing tool for entertainment value. But the topics presented are the heart of why people tune in. And I think Jordan brings credibility to the topic.

It may do it but I think that is also helping get the larger companies noticing this size of figures and is helping get more of them made.

I have said before why I don't like this show. Brings to much of the spotlight on all the toys. Which drives prices up for everyday collectors. I already here "i saw it on ebay for ........" way to much.

The Turtles...yeah, me too. I was telling my wife "I collected the wrong lines back then". I got tubs, and TUBS of 90s Batman stuff that's barely worth original retail. Not that I collect for profit/investment, but I could be selling those Turtles to score some even nicer vintage stuff. Sigh.

Not all Turtles are created equal, the $300 figure was a very rare and under produced toy. Most of the line can be had on the cheap.

What is beginning to fascinate me is the failed lines from the 80's that seem to have a following. Specifically the Over the Top action figure line. Both the movie and it's toys were an epic fail. Plus it didn't help that the toys were pretty cheaply made back then. But the movie has found a seeming wave of good will from people. My own boss, who is a big movie geek, does not care for Stallone one bit. But he DOES likes this movie....odd. So perhaps the toy line is benefiting from this new found love. Fascinating how attitudes can fluctuate so wildly from one generation to the next. I'm now beginning to reevaluate what I considered to be throw away stuff in my collection. I don't have tons of 80's stuff since I was a 70's kid. But I have enough of some things, it may be worth giving it look. Good show!

Loved the Magnum set, have had a couple of those, very tough piece! Should have bought up all those Turtles I passed on in the early nineties

Hmm yeah you are right, it looked much bigger on the show, but could have just been the angle or something. Definitely overlooked the clasp coming through the one n the front page though
