Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I think going after the younger genteration is going to guarantee a great movie. It was this stratagy that gave us the three Star Wars prequels and I can't stand those movies.

I was just trying to explain why I think Abrams has pretty much written off our generation.

And, yeah, I spotted things in the trailer I didn't like.

I don't know if they are officially calling this a re-boot like Batman Begins or Casino Royale, but that's how I'm approaching it.

Both of those re-boots had things I didn't like (Batman - black armor, husky voice; Bond - frantic inchoherant action). But overall, I enjoy them for what they are.

I know this new Trek movie has Nimoy, but the other two re-boots had throw backs to the previous series (Bond - Judi Dench as M, the old Astin Martin DB5; Batman - again, all-black armor, girlfriend who knows Bat's secret i.d.)

For me this could either be a Phantom Menace or a Casino Royale. That's why I said, I just have to wait and see it. Unless I hear overwhelmingly from every one this sucks.

I know this: Abrams has not earned my unquestioning trust they way Chistopher Nolan has. If this sucks, Abrams may get 7 bucks out of me but it'll be the last. You can count on that.

And You may be right Mike. I do want more classic Star Trek stories with Kirk & Spock....BADLY!!!! And if it sucks, I'll be the the first to admit it...but I won't condemn it, without at least watching it first.

Lots of explosions, quick cuts and CGI, wow, didn’t see that coming. I kid, I kid! Seriously it’s to be expected considering who the director is.

Anyhoo, the bit with rug rat Kirk with the car was pretty darn cringe worthy and having Uhura strip was kinda crass. It’s trying way too hard to be edgy and hip.

But like the new Enterprise itself, I expected worse. Or maybe I just have low expectations after what Sci-Fi did to Flash Gordon. Could have been better and could have been a heck of a lot worse. Still don’t like the bright white plastic looking bridge.

Apple has really high quality versions of the trailer up for those with high spead.

The same thing happened for Superman Returns and the first Hulk movie.

Mike's starting to sound like a certain Who fan.

Mike, if you don't like it, just don't look. It'll be that easy to ignore. This movie is not going to make the classic series disappear and it's far better than a trek movie with the remaining living cast members.

Oh and Teens spend money like water, they are the demographic to get, they see movies multiple times and buy merchandise. I have lots of marketing data to support this. Star Trek fans all go see the movie on opening weekend and it dies. Only when the general movie going public gets involved, do you get a smash hit.

My opinion, they should be going for the old fart fans.
WE'RE the people nutty enough to see it 20 times in the movies, buy the videos and collect the merchandise... not to mention watch the TV spin-offs.
Teens aren't going to do any of that.

But Mike....a lot of People in this thread have said, that the Trailer looks good...and that they would go see it! And I don't think anybody of this Site is a Teen.

I saw the Trek preview the other day when I went to see "Quantum of Solace". Also saw "The Spirit" preview but the sound of Will Eisner turning in his grave made that one hard to hear.

The Trek preview is quite impressive on the big screen. I'm still not sold on
going to see it though. I still don't like the premise of the movie.

I'm definately hearing more open Mindedness...then negativity in this thread. People seem to be willing to at least see the Movie first, before condemning it...pretty cool
