>Interesting...
....and kinda sad that so much attention is being put on an ad! Really; how many sites are out there dedicated to THIS AD?!?!
I'm wondering if there's gonna be no way for the film to live up to all the expectation; good or bad.

This trailer is about the same, except it slips in Leonard Nimoy as Spock at the end.

lol. Funny!Close - how about SNOT?
I agree with Don on this simply because I mentioned the movie trailer to a coworker today and she is a big Sci-Fi fan, but doesn't post on boards and such, and she had no idea that this movie was in the making let alone coming out in May. I showed her the trailer and she really got psyched over it. So I guess they must be doing something right by putting it out there this early.I can see an exec thinking more hype=better.Leave a comment:

>Underdog may be correct, and they are trying to get any arguments or backlash against this movie out of the way now.
OR they're trolling the fans as a sort of huge test audience; and they'll edit out the stuff that meets with an unfavourable response before the movie comes out....
>but the gaffs are there on the screen forever...until the digitally edit them out.
Yeah. Nothing's perfect; and it's been some of the slips that've given writers that came after material to work with. It's all part of the story.... eventually. I'm a big fan of the "warts and all" way of thinking, which is why I get bugged so much when folks redo what's already happened.

All this talk about messing with Trek continuity is really funny when you consider TOS couldn't keep it's own continuity straight, esp. in the first season. Who did they work for? United Planets? Space Patrol? Earth Space Agency?
How many nephews did Kirk have?
Which ships did he serve on?
Can Vulcans lie or not?
What is the Enterprise's maximum warp?
Held to the strict standards of us nerds, it all starts to fall apart. Licensed and unlicensed books have been trying to string these things together in coherent fashion for 40 years, but the gaffs are there on the screen forever...until the digitally edit them out.

I agree with your friend ctc. My reason for the fishy question is due to timing. I can see them starting this blitz in February, or March even...but now? The potential for whatever steam they can generate now dissapating by May is pretty high. They are running a risk of people getting Trekked out before the movie comes out......I cant see them building on this really from where they are now.

>the whole "Kirk driving a car" thing is the tip of the iceberg
That kinda bugs me too; but it's something Trek has suffered from since it's beginning: the idea that what we in the audience consider "classic" will be so in a hundred or so years. Kirk speeding in a classic car is symptomatic. (As it was when Paris did it on Voyager.) I'd prefer to see something new considered classic (like something done by another race, or something humans did during the years between now and when the story takes place ) OR see the detritus of our day elevated to classic status. (Which is tricky to do 'cos you have to make it convincing. "Yes, the early 21st century "reality shows" were complex morality plays humans used to stage as a way of teaching social values. The characters on these shows were presented to the public as objects of ridicule...")
>Does anybody else think something fishy is going on here?
Sadly, no. I had a friend who works in tv explain that a lot of research went into movie ads and it was discovered that the audience reacts a LOT better to an ad that summarizes the entire movie, including the end. People really DON'T like surprises any more. The Trek hype seems like that principle taken to the next level.

I've been wondering the same thing. It seems awfully early to give out as many spoilers that have been out there. I'm surprised that they even have shown any of the scenes with Nimoy in them as I imaging that is what will bring in the old timers (like meDoes anybody else think something fishy is going on here?
). I don't think that there are any hidden endings or anything like that, so the only thing that I can think of is that Paramount is trying to create the normal buzz/"point-counter-point" that purists and non-purists would start once the movie released. In other words "get the arguments out of the way now."
possible spoiler!
From what I've read about this being a new parallel with Nero destroying the old time-line, I think that they will word it that we don't know if the old timeline is really destroyed so that the fans can have both universes for stories, nostalgia, etc. I don't think that they will just kill TOS (Shatner/Nimoy) off. Generations killing Kirk left a lot of bad tastes in people's mouths. Not to make this post longer, but what do we call this version. Since it is technically TOS is it the new original series? TNOS?Leave a comment:

I was kinda hard on Mike saying that I felt his stance was
like a "silly" rule because it seemed like ANY reimagining
of the classic cast had nothing to offer---and I had noticed him
say simillar things about other re-boots and such scenarios
so I felt a bit more justified than usual.
I apologize if terming Mike's stance as "silly" is too harsh..everyone's
entitled to their opinions---regardless, I STILL haven't seen
Mike budge a bit on this new Trek thing
Speaking somewhat seriously about your quip Hec^^^...
I hope that this movie is a huge hit and ends with a surprise cameo not just from Nimoy but from all the surviving TOS cast members and computer
inserted images of the ones that have passed away (Kelley, Doohan)---
that's the best they could do for the "old fans" (and it'd be pretty neat!)Leave a comment:
