I thought Rey Rey Lost his Mask in WCW.
When He went over to WWE He then showed up with his Mask On Again. Vince knew there was still Money in His Mask Gimic.... The Original Knight ..., Often Imitated, However Never Duplicated. The 1st Knight in Customs.

Rey Mysterio is a great wrestler... no doubt about that. But It really, really bothers me that he "lost" his mask in a match and then started wearing it again. I understand the reason why, as it was thought that a masked guy couldn't really get over in the states, so the whole thing was a work. But still... when a luchadore loses his mask in match, for whatever reason of the loss, the mask STAYS lost. I can't think of any other guy who lost his mask and then went back to it.
And yes, Mysterio v Mistico would be amazing. Especially if it was a good long match, like the classic Liger v Muta bout. I actually think Mistico is a bit better wrestler.
As for the tradition of losing the mask, when WCW went under, Rey wrestled extensively in Mexico, every match without the mask. The only time he has wrestled in Mexico with the mask is when WWE went to Mexico fairly recently. But for the money Vince pays him versus what he would get in Mexico, I think any luchadore would do the same thing.

Blame Eric Bischoff for that stupidity. Sad thing is that Bischoff brought lots of luchadores into WCW, so you would have thought he would have more respect for the tradition. They should have pulled the old Mil Mascaras trick of having a mask under the mask.

Some guys take the cheap loss in late age and retire (Atlantis for example), young guys with looks take it and go on as pretty boys (Shocker...etc.).
That being understood, I don't blame the guy and I am not judging him, it just bums me out. I love Lucha Libre, but I understand Mysterio's decision. Hell, I'd tape cat turds to my face and wrestle as "The Bi-Curious Wonder" for the money that Rey is getting... but I have no morals whatsoever.Comment

Ahhh... Wrestling... My days as a Fan of Wrestling go back to the 1960's, and Stampede Wrestling out of Calgary Alberta. The Hart family were influential in this small venue which was a start for many of the big names in wrestling over the past 50 years.
If you go to the Wiki site you'll see a list of Alumni. Man, even the announcer -- Ed Whalen -- was a charismatic character... Great Fun!

About Rey Mysterio and his mask...
When he lost his mask he was Rey Mysterio Jr. His mask had a crown over the eyes.
When he wrestled in mexico without the mask, he was still Rey Mysterio Jr.
He's now called Rey Mysterio (no Jr) and his mask is different (even is slightly). I have a feeling this is akin to a wrestler losing his mask and identity and getting a new one and creating a new character.
I think that's how they justify it, and why he's not booed for doing it when he returns to mexico.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Not technically a wrestler but I always liked that football player in the one and only season of the XFL that went by "He Hate Me"
One thing I liked about the XFL was the way they handled kick offs. Didn't they just place the ball in the center of the field and whoever got to it first was theirs? You could either just jump on it and take it from there or if you had someone really fast they could run and pick it up or do some type of rugby style trick to pitch the ball back to someone behind them."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."

- Harley Race - the NWA kingpin in the 1970s and early 80's, and my idol growing up. I've met him and exchanged emails with him, a true gentleman.
- Ted DiBiase - Not the Million Dollar Man era, but before that. He was a great technical wrestler, one of the best.
- Chris Benoit - his tragic end doesn't erase the fluidity and believability of his matches, though even know I have a hard time watching him.
- Ric Flair - woooo! Wrestling ability, charisma, he had it all.
- Samoa Joe - a throwback to Chris Benoit-type wrestlers. Just about everything he does looks real. He's the only reason I even bother to keep up with TNA anymore.

1) SHAWN MICHAELS ....going back through the thread I can't understand why no one likes him. Greatest athlete/showman ever. When he was in his prime (before the back injury) he gave his all every match. He invented the ladder match, his DX stuff with HHH was hilarious! Charismatic and cool!!!!
2) HHH - DX counterpart - Best in the biz right now.
3) Jerry Lawler - I grew up watching him in my area. 70's stuff w/ Andy Kaufman was historical.
4) "Handsome Jimmy Valiant" - Great memories of his "boogie - woogie" stuff.
5) Ric Flair - greatest heel ever!
Alot of other honorable mentions - Stone Cold, Rock, Freebirds, Fabulous Ones, Piper.
Hogan was all show and no ability. Yeah, he's the biggest star of all - time, but was he really that good?Comment
