I wonder why the masked-wrestler is not popular in the States, but it's all the mad rage in Mexico.

        Speaking of masked wrestlers......

Who was that Mexican dude in the mid '90's on WCW ...... He wore all black and had a skull mask...

Loved that dude ...... He always put on a great show.

                  1. Ric Flair-Great mathces with virtually anyone he was in the ring with over a 35 year period

                  2. Steve Austin-From Stunning Steve in WCW to Superstar Steve in ECW to the role that made his monkey *** famous, I always thought this guy was terribly underrated for his wrestling ability

                  3. Barry Windham-Another guy that I always felt was underrated. Took part in some phenomenal mathces in his prime.

                  4. Jake Roberts-Possibly the greatest master of in ring psychology ever.

                  5. Rick Rude-What I'd like right now is for all of you fat, out of shape, Pennsylvania ****ants to stand up and show a little respect to one of the best heels to ever step into a ring

                  Teams

                  1. Midnight Express-I always loved the Mach II version with Bobby and Stan. Had there not been a separation of teams and singles, Bobby Eaton would have been on the singles list alongside...

                  2. Anderson/Blanchard-Arn Anderson could pull me into virtually any match he participated in. And Tully? Who didn't wanna see Tully Blanchard get the crap kicked out of him?

                  3. Road Warriors-For better or worse, the Warriors re-defined professional wrestlers and wrestling. Incredible physiques(for the time) and Hawk's promos were the magic recipe.

                  4. Hart Foundation-Anvil was the unstoppable force and Hitman the immovable object. Really solid duo with Jimmy Hart doing the talking.

                  5. Dudley Boys-Their act may be getting stale now, but the Dudleys were a breath of fresh air 10 years ago. Tag Team wrestling was a sea of mid-carders stuck together for a lack of anything more creative to do with them. The looked like singles and they wrestled like singles. The Dudleys were the first bonafide team I had seen in almost a decade.
Of all the souls I have encountered his was the most...human.

Mistico is a great masked luchador...I'd love to see him in the WWE and pitted against Rey Mysterio.

Just picture a younger version of Rey Mysterio...

I think it has to do alot with our Latin Culture. We watch these wrestlers as small kids in the movie theaters, then go home and watch them on Tv,Read about them in magazines and comics. The Masked wrestler never breaks out of character. When in public they're usually wearing the mask. Plus the whole mystery of who is he.....

As a child week after week I would go to my local movie theater and Watch El Santo,Blue Demon and Mil Mascaras movies. We see them as real life Superheroes.
My biggest thrill was actually seeing Mil Mascaras wrestle at MSG in New York as a kid. Also the style of wrestling for me was always more realistic. Lucha Libre seemed more real too me the moves and the high flying leaps.

Does anyone remember when the Bushwackers were the Sheep Herders? Man, they were brutal in their younger days. TONS of blood. Check out their terribly scarred foreheads in WWF...

Hard to pick a top five:

                            1. Ric Flair
                            2. Bret Hart
                            3. Rey Misterio Jr. (The first time I saw him in WCW it was like a revelation)
                            4. The Dynamite Kid & The British Bulldog (I'm cheating with a tag team)
                            5. The Fabulous Moolah

                            Honorable Mention:
Chris Jericho, Eddie Guerrero, Jerry Lynn (very underrated!), Iron Mike Sharpe (one of my favorites from the "jobber" era), the pre-Big Papa Pump Scott Steiner (remember how exciting and amazing it was when he first started doing the Frankensteiner?)

                            Fave Manager:
Bobby "The Brain" Heenan. Just about everything he said was hilarious. I steal his material all the time.

Thanks for replying...and solid points as well.

They truly have the best of both worlds...beloved and cherished when they have the masks on (and in character)...and are left alone when not wearing the masks (no one know who they are and are left alone...it gives them privacy in public)...best of both worlds indeed.

Rey Mysterio is a great wrestler... no doubt about that. But It really, really bothers me that he "lost" his mask in a match and then started wearing it again. I understand the reason why, as it was thought that a masked guy couldn't really get over in the states, so the whole thing was a work. But still... when a luchadore loses his mask in match, for whatever reason of the loss, the mask STAYS lost. I can't think of any other guy who lost his mask and then went back to it.

And yes, Mysterio v Mistico would be amazing. Especially if it was a good long match, like the classic Liger v Muta bout. I actually think Mistico is a bit better wrestler.
