I always find it facinating, that they lucked in being the main royal family, if it wasnt for Edward VIII abdication, they would all be second rate royals.

True. That's something I've noticed in my travels around the world, too.

Doesn't seem to apply as much to other nations, though.

For instance, I wonder if Mexicans still feel any kind of connection to the Spanish monarchy?

Yes, the current royal family have German heritage.
King George V changed the name of the royal family from the German "Saxe-Coburg and Gotha" to the English "Windsor" in 1917.

Damn it all... we fight two world wars to keep the Germans out of the country and they still end up ruling it!

              That would be a negative.

Most Mexicans have a closer connection to Olmecs, Mayans, Aztecs, Toltecs, etc...

Not to say that they don't hold and follow Spanish traditions...they do...just not to the Spanish monarchy.

And to really shock you...many Mexicans follow the English monarchy over the Spanish more...like this girl...

Yes we thought that over that Obama rubbish pointless who cares
                I agree 100%

I also understnad that the tourist revenue is very important and that the royal family are no more than figureheads. However, the right Royals, do also do a lot of good in the world. Diana did a lot.....maybe because she was not born into it. she was the best of the royal family and both of her boys seem to have good heads and are grounded in reality.

the olympics are also huge revenue events and that is why countries all want to host it.

It seems like almost everybody in the EU hates the EU

                          What's up with that ?

I'll be the first to agree, the EU is a big disaster.
                              The problem?
First of all, they accept anybody, as long as you don't blatantly violate human rights. So we have a whole bunch of almost third world members, who have come mainly for the financial support. Second, we don't agree on anything, and a couple of members always veto anything where they'd have to help out another country.

I'd also like to get something straight: Belgium may "supply" the building where the EU has its home, but "we" don't govern anything. Some people seem to think that Belgium is the KGB, heading a Communist regime. It's typical. People need a leader, our "guy" does a decent job so they give him the political hot potato, and then they point the finger at him. It's like "please help us how to get our stuff sorted out"...but..."don't tell us what to do!!!!"
Please get it out of your heads that Europe is a Communist dictatorship.

If you think Europe is full of conflict and internal struggle, just take a look at the US, where there are so many opposing views (not just political), trying to get their point across.

To close my statement: Belgium may be a small speck on the map, unable to boast tons of Olympic gold, but let's just look at women's tennis these days: our very own Kim Clijsters is usually in the nr. 1 or 2 spot of the world rankings, whooping *** left and right. Yeah!!!!!

                              Sorry for the rant.
Just needed to be a little patriotic.
