The Bills is what I was talking about, the four in a row.
If you think LSU is not rich in football tradition, you are very wrong. LSU has been playing football for over 100 years and other than the 90's, they have been a powerhouse year in and year out.
Ohio State does have five more National Championships than LSU and have been a powerhouse year in and year out as well. They are very similar schools when it comes to football. They have always been playing in the shadow of another great team (Alabama & Michigan).
Ohio State has the great history of Woody Hayes.
LSU is the 12th most winning programs in the nation with 691 (.635), Ohio State has 808 (.69)
As for the Saints, I can really care less about pro-football, I am not a pro-football fan. But if you are throwing stones at home teams, the Cards is one of the biggest jokes in the NFL.

A) LSU may have been around college football almost as long, but they don't have the tradition that Ohio State does in college football.
B) The Buffalo Bills are who you are likely referencing, as they lost 4 Superbowls in a row, including one to the Giants.
C) The Giants have won 6 NFL titles, including a 2-1 record in the Superbowl.
D) I'm betting New Orleans Saints fans would be happy to have appeared in 4 Superbowls, yet consecutive ones. But oh yeah, they are one of only 6 teams not to make it to the big dance.Leave a comment:

Tiger, I hope the Rose Bowl is evenly matched, but I seriously doubt it. A big ten team goes out there and gets whipped again this year I think. Illinois is decent, but they can't play with USC the way they are playing right now. West Virginia has been suspect all year, I guess if the offense that dropped 66 on UConn shows up, they have a chance against OK, but Oklahoma is far and away the better team in my opinion. I still think every BCS bowl game has the potential to be an absolute joke.
As far as who should be in the title game, I think it probably should have been Virginia Tech after reviewing a few things this evening. They were ranked ahead of LSU last week, and won their title game, lost to ranked teams (unlike LSU) and played about the same strength of schedule. No way should LSU have jumped them in the rankings--just no way. You can argue they should have jumped Georgia and Kansas for several reasons--but there is no argument in my opinion that they should have jumped Va Tech. Yes, LSU stomped them earlier this year, but Mizzou beat Kansas and they got in while Mizzou does not, so that argument isn't very convincing to me.Leave a comment:

This is how I see it between LSU, VT, OK, & USC
LSU lost two to teams with winning records (8-4 & 7-5)
VT lost to teams with winning records (11-2 & 10-3)
USC lost to teams with one winning and one losing record (4-8 & 8-4) plus the loss to Stanford was one of the biggest upsets in college football
OK lost to teams with one winning record and one with .500 record (6-6 & 8-4)
This gives VT the advantage, but LSU beat them by 41 points earlier in the season. This is how I think it was a tie between LSU & VT.
After that, strength of schedules were pretty close, so the head to head match up gave LSU the nod for the NC game.Leave a comment:

LOL! good call
It's really hard to pick when there's a 4 way tie.I do think USC is the hotter team right now,but their strength of schedule was kind of weak.
Oh by the way,I see Georgia destroying and embarrassing the hell out of Hawaii ,but I'm glad they finally got some well deserved creditLeave a comment:

Go ILLINI. Tonight, the CHIEF looks down with a rose between his teeth.
Mizzou getting overlooked is a crock of spit.
Imagine if baseball started to conduct its late season this way. Or any other sport for that matter. Every other division of college football has a playoff......why not award one to its highest division?Leave a comment:

Honestly I would have seen Georgia going before LSU but personally I'd pick either Oklahoma or USC because they are the better teams. LSU with their starting QB back should beat OSU. They're much more battle tested. I've love to see an SEC team win the NC!
As for VT I'd have flipped only because I'm not a big fan.Leave a comment:

I can see Hawaii pulling a "Boise State" on GA. Their passing game is unbelievable, but they have their hands full with GA.
The OK/WV will be a great one, I don't see OK rolling on them.
The Rose Bowl is pretty evenly matched, Illinois has been spoilers all year.
VT should kill KS.
LSU better get healthy, or it could get ugly. I would love to see Ohio State being used by the SEC as its whipping boy in back to back National Championship games. They could become the NY Giants (or is it Buffalo Bills) of the college football world, always the bridesmaid, never the bride.Leave a comment:

Man, these have the potential to be really, really crappy games. Georgia could very well crush Hawaii, VT is probably gonna do the same to Kansas, OK and USC are likely to roll and LSU has a chance to blow out the Buckeyes, if for no other reason than they have time to get healthy and it's virtually a home game for them. I just hope this very exciting college football season doesn't end with a whimper.
How the heck does Kansas make it in over Mizzou? They lost to Mizzou and were third in their conference, and Mizzou is ranked three spots over them in the final BCS rankings. I think Mizzou strength of schedule was in the top 30, while Kansas' was not even in the top 100. That to me is the biggest crock of your know what in this whole deal.
Also, something else that is interesting to me, if you look at the actual final computer rankings, (link below that opens a PDF file) they have Va Tech #1, LSU #2 and OSU #3.

Tim, who do you think should be there, GA, Mizzou, Hawaii, or some one else?
I feel LSU, OK, USC, or VT were the only four in the running. Like I said before, I thought VT had the lock because the only two loses were to #2 ranked teams (LSU and BC), plus they beat BC last night in the ACC CG rematch.
Last night after the game, I was very excited that LSU won the SEC and was going to the Sugar Bowl. I woke this morning and was dumbfounded at what had happened.Leave a comment:

Mizzou and Ga did not win their conferences and do not deserve to be there. It was basically a four way tie between LSU, USC, OK, and VT (all 2 lose teams). It all came down to strength of schedule, and LSU won that hands down.
They do need to start making it a rule that only teams that win their conference can play in the BCS NC game.
In the BCS rules they say a conference title doesn't matter but apparently is does. Their rules contridict the end results and agree with you that they should be changed.
Again LSU was in the top 7 all year long because of the BCS system. LSU is a great team but again it's supposed to be about the BEST teams playing for the NC. If VT had gotten the #2 spot I really would have flipped!

The 3 best teams Georgia, USC and Oklahoma out of the NC game. Not a fan of any of those teams but one of them desrve to be there. Strength of schedule? That's dertermined by the BCS by THEIR rankings. Just don't see it.

I agree, GA is most likely the best team in the nation right now, but not all season. GA would kill either LSU or Ohio State right now.
LSU has been in the top 7 all year long and successfully defended the #1 seating twice (more than any other team I think, I maybe wrong on this).
Earlier today, I thought VT would have gotten it over LSU because their 2 loses were to ranked teams and one of LSU's loses was to an unranked team. I guess the head to head butt whipping LSU put on VT is what gave LSU the advantage.
The thing about Mizzou, it is like Tenn. They won their division but lose the championship game and the team behind them gets the BCS bid. This is how LSU made it to the Sugar Bowl last year and we didn't even win our division.
LSU did barely beat Tenn last night, but we did do it with ALOT of second stringers because of many of our star players are hurt.Last edited by theantiquetiger; Dec 2, '07, 9:54 PM.Leave a comment:

True but to unranked Arkansas and lowly ranked Kentucky, please. I can see if they had 1 loss but not with 2 to those teams. This happens to Mizzou and not even a BCS game? Even KU got in and Mizzou beat them! Except for Hawaii the whole picture is out of whack. A playoff system is a must to overshadow any doubtLeave a comment:
