There are plenty of questionable calls in every game in every sport. There were probably calls in this game that went Miami's way - maybe others for OSU. Refereeing, umpiring, judging are flawed ways of deciding calls. I Believe that IS part of sports. It should be. We certainly have the technology to decide what baseballs are in the strike zone - yet we still keep umpires that, on (surprisingly) rare occasion, make the wrong call. Does that mean we should eliminate Umps?
Using a computer, video and replay are not part of a game.

People tend to remember the final call of a game and forget the rest.

    - and this particular call was certainly not indisputably wrong which would mean that even with replay it would not be changed.
Yeah maybe a few calls did go our way,but no call to win the game. There's a difference. That game should've ended there, there was no holding or PI.look at the replay and look at what tiger points out,he released him.Plus you guys forget that they went after Willis Low and tore his knee up,If will had been there the whole game, maybe the score would've been a lot different
who knows? it was still a great game and will always be remembered for that questionable call

Definition: Use of the hands to hold or push an offensive receiver or back on a passing play beyond the first five yards past the line of scrimmage.

In this case, the D-player did release the jam after about 3 yards, so there was no holding.

The facemask was incidental and would not have given OSU a first down, just one more play from the 1 yard line, and OSU didn't make it into the Endzone on the next play. The facemask looked bad in slow motion, but in real time, it lasted a split second.
Yeah, you can jam, but you are not supposed to grab the jersey at any time, which the Miami player did for a split second, impeding the progress of Gamble.

I happen to agree as well with everyone saying "does it really matter?" The outcome is that OSU won. Just that every single time a Buckeye fan brings this up, somebody mentions that call. That is why some Buckeye fan made that video--if nothing else it shows that if you scrutinize each and every play, you will almost always find something.

I agree with you on the facemask--I do think as well that it wouldn't have resulted in a first down--again, it was just gravy that it happened as well.

The premise of the video is clearly stated: "Whether holding, pass interference, or face mask; the result is the same: First Down." (as if Karma wears stripes).

If it is to be argued, why pick the one that didn't happen? Were the officials confused as to which would benefit THE...Ohio State the most and went with the one that seemed the most egregious?

Grand scheme of things: it doesn't matter...THE Ohio State won. However, to go so far as to make a video to prove a point THAT WAS ALREADY DECIDED IN THE.......OHIO STATE'S FAVOR...is kind of silly.

    Wow...

I didn't know Oliver Stone resorted to YouTube Presentations.

It doesn't matter. The game is played on the field in real time and any review will focus on the call, not what was missed. That said we all agree to the rules and if you get gypped, well, that's part of the game, too. THE...Ohio State won.

I can accept a call on the field, but to justify a crap call by what was missed and then state, "It doesn't matter that this wasn't a pass interference...look at what they could have called" is laughable. In fact, it further proves that the officiating crew was incompetent.

That said...the call was the call and that is that. There is no changing it, thus no need to justify it. No need to involve Ollie.

You must be a Miami fan. They are the only ones still talking about that pass interference call.
Watch the tape again, the flag was thrown right away, the call was legit, it simply should have been holding instead of pass interference--the result would have been the same. The refs could also have called a face mask penalty. Somebody made this very nice video to explain it all:
YouTube - Ohio State vs Miami - Pass Interference? Replay + Analysis.

The point is we were supposed to be destroyed in that game, and legitimately ended up winning. Still the most exciting game I have ever seen, and my top sports memory, until the Indians win the World Series that is.

Man, I remember that and when Will Allen and Willis McGahee (whose name got called in the Monday Night Game as I was typing this) got tangled up. That was almost as bad as Joe Theisman's Monday Night Mishap.

Quite alot of talk last year as well, Florida didn't have a prayer. Smith/Ginn were gonna run the score up. I'm not saying LSU isn't the better team, but lets at least play the game. I have yet to hear one national analysist pick the Buckeyes.

    LSU's 24 Days Before Christmas....

Twenty four days before Christmas, in a state in the south,
Les Miles was ****ed as he opened his mouth.
“Miles to Michigan,” was reported as fact.
To which Miles responded, “Herbie you don’t know jack!”

The Tigers had suffered a gut wrenching loss,
At the hands of McFadden and the rest of the hogs.
And Bo in his sweatshirt, and Miles in his Hat.
Were determined to prove they were better than that!

When the Tennessee Vols ran out on the field,
There were ruckus applause from the mentally ill.
Still in the locker room, Les told his team,
“This season ain’t over. We still have a dream.”

The hurt throwing arm of QB Matt Flynn
Meant Ryan was the man they put their faith in.
Then the fans all heard, what Les said in the Dome.
    “I ain’t goin’ anywhere. I’m happy. I’m Home!”

The fans were still thinking “This might be a trick.”
‘til someone pointed out “Hey, this guy ain’t Nick!”
The Hat took the field for this championship game,
    And he brought all his Tigers, and he called them by name;

“Now, Hester! Now, Early! Now, Highsmith and Putt!
Let’s let ‘er rip and shut these guys up!
Take to the field Men! Give it your all!
    Then later we’ll watch numbers 1 & 2 fall.”

The fans still weren’t sure as to what team would show,
The Virginia Tech game seemed like so long ago.
But there in the stands, the fans they did cheer,
As Perrilloux played his game of the year.

While out in Ar-Kansas, the hogs claimed the boot,
The Tigers were focused on far better loot.
With the game knotted up, Ainge threw a quick out
But Zenon was ready and took six to the house.

He wore a LSU jacket, and a white turtle neck,
The same as he wore when his team beat La Tech.
With the hat on his head, and a childish grin,
Les put his team in the title picture again.

His smile-how it widened! as Pitt won its game!
He cheered Oklahoma, when it did the same.
The stars were aligning, it couldn’t be true.
Turns out Miles WAS destined, to play O-S-U.

With a month to prepare and a month to heal up,
That "DAMN Strong Team" is sure to Show Up.
He ain’t going to Michigan, and we’re sure of that.
But Tressel and the Buckeyes should still Fear The Hat!

On December first, he called L-S-U home.
Then set up the Tigers, to play again in the Dome.
It soon will be legend, how Les started that day,
    “Can’t talk now. . . . I’m busy. . . . [Y’all] have a GREAT day!”

It's a fine shade of auburn. (It's not that bad, it was just kind of abrupt.)

One of my buddies cracked, "Who does he think he is, Pat DYE from AUBURN?"
