    Not a bad haul overall.

Yeah a 65% drop is harsh, but when you consider what opened (Monsters U for the kids, WWZ for adults) it puts things in perspective.

It will do favorably, and is comparable to other summer openers.
Looking for Green Arrow accessories, Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver, and Japanese Popy Megos (Battle Cossack and France, Battle of the Planets, Kamen Rider, Ultraman) and World Heroes figures

Wal-Mart is already clearancing out merchandise. That was quick.

TV dramas have been better than ever the past 10 years because of the types of films being made today. To me, that's not a bad trade off.

Oh, Monster U is basically Revenge of the Nerds for kiddies of all ages.
Thor 2 will be released in November, and Captain America Winter Soldier next year, 2014.

$400 million global box office take in 11 days...

"Man of Steel" dominated at the international box office this weekend, adding $89 million from 52 foreign markets to raise its global total to nearly $400 million in 11 days of release.

Already halfway towards my $800 million prediction.

Monday gross: $4.5 million (another 65% drop). At this stage, legs appear highly in doubt for this film. With the Summer line up continuing to grow from week to week, theaters will start dropping prints and moving this into smaller venues. I think MOS can probably end with a tally around $280 million. Within the series this would rank it third with ticket prices adjusted for inflation. Superman the movie remains the definitive success story in this series.

                      1) Superman the movie: $455,423,531.16
                      2) Superman II: $308,990,829.43
                      3) Man of Steel: $280,000,000.00 (projected)
                      4) Superman Returns: $242,541,170.15
                      5) Superman III: $151,113,633.86
                      6) Superman IV: $61,312,788.20

Hopefully, the international amount will continue to be strong, bringing it up for a higher worldwide total. Steel needs around $500 million to be considered "financially solid."

This summer seems a bit front loaded, so maybe MOS will make some dough in July. Pacific Rim, Lone Ranger and White House Down seem to be the major releases that could continue to steal MOS' thunder. I'm excited for Lone Ranger, but I'm not sure how it's going to go over. Pacific Rim seems cool, but also not sure about how general audience feel. White House Down is the second White House under siege film this year, so that may hurt it's chances as well.

I really hope it stabilizes and makes some more dough. Although the word of mouth now seems pretty split, even amongst the geek crowds. The Geek Shall Inherit guys really disliked the film. I enjoy their show, but rarely agree with their tastes in films, (they were really rough on ST: Into Darkness as well) so I'm not really sure what that means across the board.

I have a bit of a problem with that never ending adjusted fir inflation argument.

This article pretty much says it all...

I have to disagree brotha. Adjusted for inflation is the ONLY way to view the actual popularity of a film because it measures the total number of tickets SOLD. When Superman the movie came out in 1978, the average cost of a ticket was $2.34 compared to the average now which is $7.93. If you take how many tickets the movie sold and multiply it by today's figures, that's what that figure would have made. And that film didn't have the insanely pricey 3D IMAX shows either. So it's how many people showed up. Not what they paid to get in. Completely fair.

Back then, movies were an event, and the only game in town, plus a lot less releases and competition.

Today, not only you have to compete with blockbuster after blockbuster, but we now have 500 cable channels, internet, etc...it's a different world for movies today.
