Have you noticed how quickly studios market the DVD's? I've already received notice from Amazon about Star Trek Into Darkness coming on Blu Ray! At this pace, I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see Superman advertised sometime in July.
My Wal-Mart already has signage up about preordering the Blu-Ray/DVD of Man of Steel! I personally think that is confusing, and may cost some ticket sales!

I'm absolutely thrilled that it did so well even if I was less then thrilled with actual movie. It means I might get to see a Justice League movie. Hopefully Wonder Woman and Flash will get movies too!!

And I saw that add for Walmart preorders on the back of a comic. It had me thinking the movie was coming out July 15 on dvd/blu ray. I was like whaaat?

Pre-order is no longer about competing amongst retailers, but a gauge as to how many units to order. I haven't bought a disc in years, but MOS is tempting.

To bring it all home, this explains why the Re-Mego 8 inch was available to license; they've blown the doors off and want to saturate the market for the next few years as a kind of preconditioned marketing for DCU/JLA properties.

I never thought about DVD's being a pre-order consideration. That's very insightful. You bring a great perspective to this field. I always enjoy reading your comments. Well stated.

Heck, when I bought my tickets at Wal-mart, you could pre-order the Blu/DVD that day. That was a month before the film opened.

I'd really like to see a studio test DVD/Blu Ray release day and dat with the film in the theater with exclusive rights for the theaters to sell the DVD/Blu Ray.

Let the theaters have exclusive right to sell it and set the price while it is running the film and then let the film go to retailers and on-demand 4 to 6 months later. For a wll received film, I bet there would be a ton of impulse buys on blockbusters and family fare.

Wow... Friday numbers for MOS were abysmal. He only pulled in $12.7 million. At this rate, it's drop percentage is going to be in the mid to high 60s. Monsters and WWZ are soaking up the market this weekend. Friday's gross was $30.5 for Monsters and a surprising $25.5 for WWZ. MOS is getting left in the dust. We'll need to keep an eye on the foreign markets to see if they can right the financial ship.

That's not surprising, actually pretty much predictable, both Monster U and WWZ are big debuting movies, no biggie, Man of Steel will go steady as she goes, don't sweat it.

MOS $181 million domestic, $73 million foreign, for a total of $253 million in one mere week, those are really good numbers.

It's currently taking 80% of Chinese movie ticket sales.

MOS is doing just fine, folks.

Pixar movies always debut at number one, always.

World War Z is a $400 million budget movie (amazing number), that's the one that has to prove itself in the long run, it's going to be hard, but we shall see.

Actually most, including the studio, were looking for it to clear between $50 to $55 million. If this movie doesn't get that traditional Saturday bump in ticket purchases, it will do well to make $40 million. That's horrid. This Friday's drop from last Friday was 71.1%. Those are all indicators of a film that was front loaded because no one is going back. It needs at least $20 million today to have a chance to make $40 million or a little better. Even THEN you're looking at a 63% or higher drop. I can make allowances for Monsters. That was a given. But for WWZ to be trouncing it too? Not edging it. Not fighting with it for second. Soundly thumping it. Anyone who wants to see MOS in 3D IMAX had better get in this weekend to see it. Theaters will deligate this to smaller venues fast if business stays this bad. No two ways of looking at it. I knew this weekend would really tell the story. Overseas markets will have to pull Supes into the black by themselves. Lets hope that China number is big.

It will pull record numbers in China, you'll see.

I predicted from the start a total of $800 million worldwide box office take for Man of Steel, let's see how close or far my Nostradamus' skills are, lol.

I myself seen Man of Steel twice, will see it one more time for a total of three, so I have done my devoted Kryptonian duty, lol.

I will check out World War Z once.

I never go to the theater for animated movies, not that I don't like them, I do...but being an adult male with no kids, sitting amongst hordes of kids, well, it just annoys me to no end, those kids are just too bloody loud for me, plus I bet the parents think I'm some kinda creep or something, lol. I'll rent Monster U when it comes out on Blue-ray, lol.

I hope it's successful because I want to see the DC Universe expanded. I would like to see a World's Finest movie made where Superman and Batman team up.
