I almost mentioned Vibe, but he's not major. But if it's a former character, especially a long-dormant (dead) character like Vibe, I don't really have a problem with that.

Oddly enough, Vibe appeared in a 2-part DC Nation short this weekend that seemed to be poking fun at bad 80s cartoons. It was actually the most entertainment the character ever provided me.

Well, I'd have to retract everything I said if its not a major character.

If you read the original article (below), you will see that DiDio did NOT say a MAJOR or PROMINENT character, he said:
And they are about to reintroduce a previously existing DC character who was previously straight and now will be “one of our most prominent gay characters.

Evidently, the MSN "reporter" only read the headline and adapted it to their own viewpoint for shock value. Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Hawkman, Nightwing, Jason, Tim are already around.

If you read the free comic book day
JLA comic, they already showed a brief appearance of a character returning to the JLA: VIBE (from JLA Detroit). My money is on him to be the newly Gay character.

Didn't they continue the Smallville story line with him when they introduced Chloe as a regular DC Universe character?

Also, too obvious and not exactly a hero!

My guess is Jason Todd...he really has no backstory that would get muddled up while at the same time offering up a former Robin as the sacrificial lamb...

From a quasi-comicbook fan perspective Iris always seemed to below
even Sue Dibney as far as DCU love interests as far as impact on the character.

The fact they're not married in today's DCU... well, that adds to her
disposable vibe as far as her established role in Flash's mythos overall.

I was thinking Flash as well.... but I didn't actually wanna have a horse in
this race.... but if I have to, it'd be Flash, for many of the reasons that
    spacecaps mentioned.

The other major heroes seemed too mired in details that'd be more of a
chance to negate them being in a gay scenario.

Flash crossed my mind only because DiDio is obsessed with pushing Barry Allen on everyone. If he thought making him gay would give his profile a boost, he'd do it. Not sure what his marital status is in the DCnU, but it probably doesn't matter, since they're just making this up as they go along.

Everyones first thought seems to be Aquaman but I don't think DC would do that. He's considered a lame superhero by many already and I think if they do it right, they need to find someone who will be welcomed as a gay superhero, not someone who will be further ridiculed for coming out. If they want to avoid a P.R. nightmare, they will absolutely avoid Batman and any of the Robin's. The idea of a gay Bruce Wayne taking in a young boy to be his ward has been an ongoing joke for years as it is, so I don't think they wanna go down that road at all. Also, that would mes with the whole Batman mythos. Bruce Wayne doesn't masquerade as Batman, Batman masquerades as Bruce Wayne. His entire being is dedicated to fight crime and he only uses women to enhance his playboy image. Batman has no time for men or women and is most likely asexual. If you think of the major DC characters (and by major they're talking about some one who has been prominent for years and is easily recognizable to the world over) plus they keep saying "hero" all of the villains are out and your looking at a very small list...
Aquaman (no..Aquaman has an image problem as it is)
Batman (if they know whats good for them, they better leave that alone)
    Robin (see Batman)
    Superman (Lois)
    Wonder Woman (Trevor)
Green Arrow (Black Canary but possible)
Green Lantern (I know there's a lot of them, but the one that everyone knows is Hal Jordan. He has no wife to speak of and a terrible image after last years movie, DC needs a complete 180 to his character so very possible).
Flash (has a dead wife so is no longer married and was Played by John Wesely Shipp on the TV show in the 90's who is a very famous gay actor so he's kind of there already in a way. But seriously Flash also seems to be the most famous DC character who is in need of a major overhaul so quite possible. Also he's the only one on this list that the casual fan would know of but know nothing about since everyone has been ingrained into pop culture (Robin, Wonder Woman), featured in a major motion picture (Batman, Superman, Green Lantern) or been on a very popular TV show in the last 10 years (Flash wasn't even called Flash on Smallville...he was Impulse)
So yes the Flash is my guess with Green Lantern as a close second...

    My money is on Dick.

I mean Dick Grayson aka Nightwing.

It would make perfectly sense. DC is already destroying their entire universe with this reboot thing. Why not just push it a little further?
