WOW! Talk about channeling Hal Foster! That's beautiful.
Ryan Sook is hugely versatile and highly underrated (perhaps because he does tend to modify his style to suite the project).
I'm really curious to see how they eventually start collecting these. I'm guessing there will probably be huge "Wednesday Comics" trades given the relative obscurity of some of the characters, although I guess a collection of Gaiman's Metamorpho would bring his rabid fan-base running.
I hope this experiment works out for DC in the long run given the talent involved.Comment

He really put together some great talent for this book...I'd love to see him be more "hands-on" on a daily basis instead of just being an art director.Think OUTSIDE the Box! For the BEST in Repro & Custom Packaging!Comment

D'oh!
Thanks Tbolt. ...Actually this is a good thing...I can keep an eye open for it. That Kommandi page is fantastic. If the rest of the book is like that, I will finally have found a current comic title worth sticking with!!!!"Crayons taste like purple!"Comment

Yeah, Ladronn.
Ron Frenz does a great Kirby, as does Steve Rude, Paul Dini, and Tom Scioloi in that Godland comic from Image. Given the lot, I'd enjoy Frenz on it, he's a nice artist with a clean style who doesn't get much lovin' outside the SpiderGirl world. He was great way back when on THOR & doing a Kirby riff in Superman whenever Jimmy Olsen & the Guardian showed up.
I also like the lush Hal Foster-esqe view for the series though, something that would elevate Kamandi from a Planet of the Apes spinoff to an epic adventure series. That looks like what Sook is attempting in the new series. Somebody like Gary Gianni or Mark Schultz could deliver such a feel to the character. A sprawling, landscape filled series with big panels and Kamandi travelling the world ala Prince Valiant style.Comment

If Kamandi wasn't in this I would've skipped it altogether. After all, it is $4.00 a pop and things are tough. Hoping the rest of it will be worth it, although if that pic is any indication it looks like one page of Kamandi per week? Heck, I'll start with issue #2 then and save myself $4. LOL...kidding.
I second the call for a new monthly Kamandi...as long as they do it ala Warlord....keep the original series continuity intact and fill us in with flashbacks.

Yeah, but his track record at doing so isn't that great. He's done Wonder Woman, Demon, Omac, Doom Patrol. He gets about a year & a half out of it before it gets cancelled and rebooted. I dunno why, I liked some of it such as the Demon. Byrne's a great artist, I always liked his work. Granted Superman was a long run, but that was a different animal completely.
