Here's an odd thing...my dealer told me I was the only one who pre-ordered this (Wha? Huh?). So he ordered low on it and then had over a dozen calls for it based on the USA Today Superman bit. So of course he didn't have enough. ..but he thinks it's still available for reorder though.

How could nobody else not order it? He thinks it's because of getting burned on Countdown & Trinity, it shied folks away from another weekly.

I picked one up Thursday during lunch. There are varying degrees of quality (well, maybe quality is not the right word, not all of it appeals to my tastes or preferences), but I really like the whole idea. In a way, I think the product is greater than the sum of its parts. I'm very jazzed by the whole thing. (hope the goodness is sustained throughout the run, or even kicks up a notch from week to week)

Anyone else get a kick out of how it's all put together? Serialized stories and the feel of newsprint. I'm a tactile person, so there is an element of, "you know, this just feels right".

I hope this will be good enough and sell well enough to make DC keep it beyond it's scheduled run or at least bring it out every Summer.

my only complaint is going to be storage, they barely fit into a silver age bag and board...so I'll try a golden age and see if it's better

Did everyone give up on this?

I'm still picking it up and enjoying it, but I haven't seen any comments since the first week.

              Any thoughts?

Well, I just caught up on #3..so far my opinions remain unchanged. The Kamandi strip is far & away the best piece...I seriously would buy this as an ongoing book, done in just this style. I hope DC considers spinning some of these off...even a series of Kamandi specials like this would be great.

I'm loving the Green Lantern strip, especially the portrayal of Carol Ferris- so early '60s!

Metal Men- story so-so, but that art!

Metamorpho seems wasted on these full page spreads- really pretty, but you only get 12 issues guys!

Supergirl is ok storywise, a little cutesy, but I just love Amanda Conner's art so much that it makes up for it. Krypto is so cute! Conner is really one of my favorite artists these days- deceptively simplistic, great with expressions, just a lot of fun. I recommend her Power Girl book if you aren't reading it. Track down the recent Terra mini-series as well for more of her art.

Catwoman/Demon was interesting at first, but they lost me this week. Ditto the Flash...but the retro romance style to the Iris West part is something I do like.

Teen Titans still sucks, and Wonder Woman is unreadable....seriously I could not read the page. I skipped it completely- incoherant story, terrible art, muddy coloring...who approved this crapola? Total waste of the heroine.

The rest of the features remain average.

I agree with your rundown on it, johnnystorm. Very good summation of it, so far. Kamandi is the first thing I flip to. Love the art on Metamorpho and Metal Men. Teen Titans and Wonder Woman could be pulled and I probably wouldn't notice, much less care. That's a shame.

It has it's highs and lows, but I feel that the sum is greater than the parts. Overall, it is such a cool format that I really wish they could find a way to make this a regular thing at some point.

                          $4.

That's all I have to say about it.

I'll wait for the interesting bits to be printed in a trade for a 1/4 of the price.

Normally, I would agree with that 100%, but I have found it very satisfying to see comics printed on newsprint again. I love the format and it is very cool to hold these issues in my hands. I'm getting far more out of it than the stories. That probably doesn't appeal to everyone, but what I get out of it would be lost in a glossy TPB that is not over sized like these are.

Considering I just paid $4.99 each for Amazing Spider-Man #600 and Incredible Hulk #600 and they were 100% crap ('cept for the Stan Lee story in Spidey), I'll gladly pay $3.99 for Wednesday Comics.
