I'm so not happy...but there's got to be a way to fix this. Today, after I make the crust and cup up some apples for pie and finish cutting up some kale for dinner, I'm going to do some serious damage control. I didn't have the strength to pry apart the molds so the next time I'm going to make extra ears so that I could get a foothold of it and pull the other one off.

I was so ready to pour the other half of the gypsum, but then I remembered I still had to prep the sculpt. I spent a good two hours trying to make it work with what I had.
My "work table" in the back yard.
Here's me working the Ultracal. Of course I couldn't find the skin tight gloves that I needed, and no time to look because I was raring to go.

Thank you. I just want her to be perfect. Today if the weather cooperates, I'm going to try to pour the other half of the gypsum mold and give it a day or so to set. I bought "skin tight" disposable gloves that are still too big, but it will be better than the first time I poured the ultracal.
Then I will need to clean off the clay from the gypsum molds as gingerly as possible without scratching the molds. The molds will go into my oven for a few hours at about 200 degrees to dry out any of the trapped water, and once they're cooled off I will wrap them in plastic to keep them dry and ready for the next phase.
Still waiting for my standing mixer to arrive, so that I can buy the appropriate sized mixing bowls from Goodwill. I think I have almost everything now to start the foam latex.
BUT, it's the good kind of obsessionLeave a comment:

She's not done yet...so until I crank out foam latex, I won't know. My husband says the Apemania Zira looks masculine compared to mine, and he's not an ape fan. I am almost ready to run some foam latex but I still need just a few minor purchases to make it happen.Leave a comment:

I gotta say, I think your Zira looks better than Apemania's. Great job!Leave a comment:
