Got mine today, and I'm really happy with them.
It is indeed a childhood dream come true!
I know they have some issues, but that shouldn't spoil the fun, it's just series 1.
Here's hoping this line has a long and prosperous life....

Hey Gorn Captain and Bones!
Thanks so much for the kind words, much appreciated. And Bones, getting thanks like that really does mean a lot, and makes some of the many headaches all worth it. To answer your question, and not to skirt any detailed answers, but it really IS all going to depend on pre orders. Right now, Wave 1 we're calling a 'success', and fully plan on getting to Scaroth and the gang. But that isn't a confirmation yet on it absolutely happening. We're pretty confident, but the almighty pre order is always the best way to make it happen, if folks really want these to continue. We certainly have plans for more waves, with more Doctors, villains and companions, along with some expected (and UNexpected) variants. We're also already making some super cool plans for the 50th Anniversary, so between the BBC being diligent and the fans supporting it all, we're doing our damndest to make them come to life. And THIS Who fan remembers how exciting the 20th Anniversary was. Feel. So. Old....
Thanks again guys!
Oh, and lastly, to address it here, we really are on the fence about rooted hair for the female figures. Sometimes it works, sometimes it looks great, and sometimes I think it just looks silly. A tricky thing to get right. So it's still being decided on, but it'd be a shame if anyone decides NOT to get a figure in a line they love because of that detail, but everyone has their pet peeves, so we understand!Comment

I'm on the fence about on the fence. =) I get that considerations must be made, and all the work that goes in... Sculpted hair I have to say is the single largest reason I didn't vote with my wallet for any of the Lost figures.
I just want that known.
I'm not a weird fetishist, and I'm certainly not above modding figures once they walk in the door - I did that with most of the Mattys, and as a matter of fact I just got in my Flash Gordon figures yesterday, and I've already made some sewing changes, body mods and boiled some color change into the heads (my first time ever at that - turned out nice - Flash, Ming, all the Mattys and the Venture gang got sun-tans).
Honestly, I love the Who franchise so much I would bick up a sculpted hair Companion and throw the head out (more likely market-place it) and make do with a Mary Ellen Walton.
Even if the rooted hair comes out a little off from the factory - hey, I'm sure we'll keep the re-rooters in business here. But Who is about the only line (Ok Star Wars - who am I kidding? Cinnamon Bun hair doesn't count though) that would still get me picking up female characters with long sculpted hair. I have yet to see a release I thought it looked right on - no offense intended to anyone or the work they've put in.
[EDIT] - well, the M-113 Salt Vampire worked with it. And it made Mego-Sense in style too. But you know there I didn't pick up a Pike because of that factory issue - so you know I'm pretty hardline when it comes to toy logic.Last edited by Tothiro; Nov 2, '11, 12:43 PM.Comment

See Tothiro, but that's the thing, it's case by case basis, it seems. Dr. Girlfriend, for example, I wouldn't put rooted hair on for all the tea in China. And that's part of the problem: if we don't do it for one female figure, it's going to be odd if we switch back and forth with rooted hair for other characters. I can site many examples of where I think sculpted hair on female figures works a treat, it's certainly never been a deterrent for me. But I get it. We're just going to have to make that decision, and like many others we make, it's not going to make everyone happy. But that's the risk we always have to take. Stand by for action!Comment

Haha, standing by!
But I agree and disagree (aren't I difficult?)
I don't think it would be weird at all to switch back and forth as you say, or utilize both as I would re-spin that thought.
I completely agree about Dr Girlfriend, and I think the end result came out great (also, it's a stylized animation line, but putting that aside). I could see the Uhura hair pitch for her, but even my dislike of sculpted mid-range hair doesn't extend to that extreme.
So for instance, I would absolutely advocate rooted hair for an Amy Pond, even a Martha Jones. If the decision was made to do a Martha with her hair tied back, I could live with sculpted on her (but would have preferred rooted with a rubber band)
I would never suggest that for Susan Foreman (may the line last that long) and I think a sculpted haired Susan would look just great standing beside the rest of the line. This is why up top I make the addendum about Leia hair and am careful to say "long haired female" because really that's long-haired anyone (thor/conan logic). It's not like I was bummed Flash Gordon had sculpted hair, you know? It's not a "dolly" thing, so it's not about gender type, it's more about toy logic, final look, and how the older lines would have handled it. (Also in absolute honesty the Claire, Kate and Juliet did not work visually for me. I still hope to pick up some Miles, Sayid and Locke action later - heck I might even sculpt up a Charlie, but the neck/hair/head execution of those female cast put me on pause)
I understand however that using both methods could be a totally off-putting thing and someone else's bugaboo. It's not mine, I say run with it! =)
But seriously do what you do, and I'll buy as many as I can.
And another PS - CTVT, setting aside their profound quality issues, decided to put rooted beard (BEARD!?) on the Companion 8 Space:1999 figure. = reDONKulous. no toy should have to suffer rooted beard.Last edited by Tothiro; Nov 2, '11, 1:31 PM.Comment

I got my four figures last week and I have to say they are amazing. I think they're the best new retro style figures I have. I was so excited that I made a video with them and my Star Trek retro figures. A sort of "Next Time" trailer for a Doctor Who/Star Trek crossover video.Check out my tumblr.

The new toys I always Mod within hours.
The heads and the hands are BBP. Everything else under the hood is vintage.
The Sontaran has a Wizard of Oz body, which makes the suit Fit much better. However the plump bodies always ran a bit shorter. I have been thinking of doing a taller, more muscular version.
I'll probably buy a few sets just to play around with.
The BBP hat is a thick, durable sculpt.
Not like the Denys fisher thin hat.
It has to be hollowed out a bit to make it work.Cheers,

(So this was the thread I was searching for yesterday.) I was going to ask if you could share pictures of your BBP! figures so I could witness the darkening of their heads.
Heya J - I'm in the patient waiter category (as I made sure the local comic shop ordered a case). I 'm really looking forward to them coming in, as well as a long and numbered line.
