Great figures, though I have to agree with certain remarks about head size and paint application on Pike.
Salt Vampire looks really cool, even though he reminds me of a very hazardous (and unappealing) sex toy...

        1. Trays = eww. So not Mego. We lasted 10 Trek figures already + RADCSH from Mattel without trays. Why now?

        2. I am ok with Pike's shirt. I really want a Kirk & Spock with those shirts, but MOC.

        3. Pike's head is problematic. The skin looks painted instead of molded, which I don't like, and his head seems a bit too big in comparison to at least Kirk. Would have been nice to have a group shot of him with others to see how he stacks up in a display. Also, the likeness is a bit soft and looks a bit more cartoony than the other figures in the line.

Nice review. You seemed quite fair in your assessment of Pike. I'm still looking forward to getting him.

Maybe one of our customizers could try shrinking the head a bit?

Pike looks like a bobblehead. Too bad, I was looking forward to this figure.

Are the heads rotocast or resin? If they are rotocast, I don't understand why the entire head would be painted--even the skin of the face??

                  Sorry Andy

Yes he did - sorry Andy - I forgot that he had custom hands.
This figure was prototyped in January of 2010.

Yikes, Pike's head is huge. The sculpts a little cartoony but not terrible. Really don't care for the painted on skin tone. Salt Vampire looks good though.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

If I had to guess, I think the answer might be that the Tricorder wasn't used when the first pilot was made. I don't think that crew had Tricorders in The Cage. It probably doesn't make sense to add that accessory when it didn't appear in the pilot. You may point out that the Communicator and Phaser included with were not the same as what Captain Pike used. Welllll, true but those accessories are standard for all Trek Mego figures. Red ones for villains and blue ones for heroes.

A thought crosses my mind. Playmates had 3 different scale Pike figures, 5", 9" & 12" but no other Cage characters. Maybe that Nurse Chapel head-sculpt could be rooted with black hair and made into Pikes first officer, Number One. Maybe at least 2 or more other characters could be made. If the blue pilot shirt could be sold separately we could re-dress the EMCE Spock with a different shirt and you have Pikes landing party from the pilot. Just a thought.

I grabbed them both at Newbury Comics when I seen them as I thought they looked great. I do agree Pike's head color is odd and it's bigger but I still like him but wish it was smaller and the skin tone on the face matched better with the rest of the line and at least with the body.

Riiight? It seems like we're doomed to have the same head problems plague remego in new and exciting ways.
I'm getting pretty tired of toy manufacturers resorting to blackmail. I'm sure the statement about Chapel/Vina was dreamt and issued before DST had any Pike in hand... I'm equally sure it's completely factual.

But come on. I wish they would think before making those statements. At the end of the day it just makes them sound like they're issuing an ultimatum that they won't produce Y figures if we don't all buy X figures with heads 1/2 scale and carved out of scented bath soap. I'm really glad Pike was a marginal character for me and that Salty wasn't the problem child.

M113 looks super sweet. I is all over its!

So Doc, did you guys and DST run out of time during production for a third sculpt, or did DST and the fabricators think they could squeeze more reduction into the process? I'm curious, since it seems everyone knew the scale was whacked when that sculpt came in. And just what up with the skin paint?

Pike looks like he fell straight out of the Filmation Star Trek cartoon and I'm loving it. It goes along nicely with the Mego bridge and Klingon.
If a Mego figure of God did not exist, it would be necessary for EMCE to invent him.
