2. there are more figures coming. in fact, just to save more energy, some of the more requested figures mentioned here are among them. won't go any further, but this should save a lot of energy better spent on more constructive endeavors.

Guys please, again, no one can discern anything that's stated in these last couple posts here (samurainor and jwyblejr.) Reason is, until the main characters (Joker, Hawkman, Catwoman, Supergirl, etc) are made and/or the line extends on for many years, we simply don't know right now whether the GL's are "instead of." If the line ends and we don't get a Joker but we have a Guy Gardner...yeah I'd say a better figure was very much "bumped", because at that point...it was! So yes, my panties would feel a bit tight at that time. But sorry guys, no one can say "nobody got bumped" because until the rest of the main DC hitters are made, the chance is still very much alive that maybe they won't be made at all, unlkely I suspect, but still it's very much possible. It's happened before in previous toy lines as I mentioned. Ask yourselves this...in retrospect, did Lex Luthor get "bumped" from the Mego line in favor of Mr. Mxy? Yeah I'd say so. Did Flash get "bumped" in favor of, say, Tarzan? Yeah I'd say so. I seriously doubt anyone on this board doesn't wish that Tarzan was instead Flash and Mxy was Luthor. That's what I'm talking about here. I don't want this great line to end with me having a Guy Gardner before say, a Firestorm.

I don't know why so many are getting their panties in a bunch. These are on-line exclusives. Nobody got bumped from the regular line to make room for these.

I think it would be foolish to purely gear this style of toy for those who are 40 plus that would remember the style from our childhoods.

Why not try and appeal to a broader market? Pick from the character library of the last 70 plus years of dc. Look at the rich variety we are getting from dc classics.

I think it's best to think of the matty gl figures as a bonus rather than instead of.

they are figures we probably wouldn't have otherwise unless there was a big push for gl product this year. Maybe we would have young Justice in the mego style instead?

However, from Matty for next year's Batman movie I have NO problem with 4 different Batmans: Original Golden Age, 1950's Bob Kane version, 1970's Neal Adams, Frank Miller's Dark Knight (padded suit would come in handy)

I also feel compelled to say this is great... I'll also even add,
that POSSIBLY some of these more "modern" characters/versions
may keep the line alive longer than it would have otherwise?

Well, in a nutshell, there's those of us here that only want Bronze Age/
Mego Era characters.

I don't begrudge you or nyone else wanting more modern characters,
but "I" don't, so i'll continue lobbying for the more Mego-era characters
to be made.... every time a more modern character/character design is
addressed that's one less Bronze Age/Silver Age charcter that ISN'T addressed.

Look, if Mattel wants to do the newbie characters before Joker, Robin, Hawkman, Atom, Riddler, Batgirl, Kid Flash, Catwoman, Speedy, Dr Fate, Red Tornado, Deadman, Spectre... yeah I'm gonna complain.
And seeing how the GL "wave" prototypes were unveiled a while ago, not giving us a peek of Wave 5 at NYC Toyfair gets some of us irritated. (Uh-OH, THAT subject again)

Great points by all, snotty or not. I think there's room for a little bit of modern/silver and bronze age. How cool would a Deathstroke be in a 70's style figure. It's those kinds of interpretations that would make the possibilities of this line and it's potential so vast. Of course Hawkman, Atom, Joker, Alan Scott and Spectre all are deserving, classic characters. If the line continues at it's current pace, I see those becoming reality.

Hi Scott,
Absolutely. You can't please all of the people all of the time. My remarks have nothing to do with the unbelievable quality and talent involved with these figures. As I said before, the GL exclusives are beautiful to look at, it's strictly the character selection I don't like. I will buy them simply to support this historic toy line because I truly hope it does go on and on for years. I just hope we don't miss out on any staple characters with a premature cancellation of the line. Then I'll have 4 Green Lanterns but no Joker or Riddler or Hawkman or...etc. That's what I worry about because aside from JLU, no Super Hero toy line has ever had the chops to really make a large number of figures and far too often in the past we've been stuck with a short-lived DC Hero line and end up with say, Huntress, but no Wonder Woman. I'm just a realist and collector all rolled into one and if this line does continue for years and years then I too would have no problem with eventually doing every Green Lantern, every Superman, every Batman, etc. I just don't like the idea this early in a line with so many glaring DC omissions.

Its as if Mego never stopped, which means; if they never stopped they wouldn't keep only redoing 70s characters, they would have done new characters in the "old" style as well.

It's like when thr 12" Misfits figures were made and they planned Micheal Graves and Chud instead of Danzig and Googy / Robo / pick a drummer. Surprised those 2 never got passed the prototype stage? The fans, the target audience, the customers said, "Efff that!"

Why stop with GL Kyle? Why not make Aquaman with the beard and hook hand? Or Impulse instead of Kid Flash? Or if Marvel gets on board, how about the black Nick Fury? After all they're "retro action", not "retro characters"

You can be as snotty as you want and I will defend your right to be snotty as well as my own right. I'm not the tone police whatsoever.

I was one of the people who wanted a Michale Graves and Chud figure. I even asked Jerry Only at a KISS convention if he thought they would be made. He said they would if the first two figures sold well enough. Sadly, the first two were blown out for $5.00 each at Kay-Bee not long after...

As far as the others, sure why not? As you said (and you are exactly right) it's "retro action", not "retro characters".

I think "Retro Action" implies a style of figure rather than a more literal meaning. If you really break this revolution down, all of these figures from EMCE, ZICA, Castaway and BBP are retro. The entire concept of the 8-inch clothed figure is retro and not relegated to retro themes. The Real Ghostbusters is an early 90's property, yet they fit seemlessly into the genre.

If someone is unfamiliar with Rayner or any other character or simply does not like the character, that's cool. Not everyone will like all of these figures. To claim he shouldn't be made because he wasn't around in the 70's is to really do yourself a disservice and deprive you of some cool figures. Some of these figures upcoming are going to floor you, I guarantee. For example, Booster Gold is in no way an older, iconic character, but if he were done properly as a Mattel retro action figure, it would be a thing of beauty and truly a joy to see him done in that fashion. I doubt he's high on anyone's wish list aside from me and two or three others.

The fun part for me is seeing the interesting choices made and the interpretations of the prototype artists. I certainly don't like all of the choices made thus far, but I appreciate and respect the spirit in which they were created. Retro action is a concept that encompasses the entire 1/9 scale, not a time period.

For the record I think the Rayner and other GL's are cool as hell, but my tastes have been in question before.
