    Mattel WGSH: High-Quality Prototype Photos!

    READY FOR AN INSIDE SCOOP?!

This past Saturday, I took a lot of photos of Mattel's WGSH prototypes () on display at San Diego Comic-Con '09.

Upon coming home, I posted some of them immediately; I knew our out-of-city, -state and -country Mego-Heads were clamoring for more pics!

Tonight, I sent my best ('primary') photos to Brian Heiler (AKA Palitoy) to use across the Web. At the same time, this is the kind of AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME (did I mention, this is awesome?!) news that makes me want to start writing my Blog again!

    So I did.

I wrote a new blog tonight, dropping love and adoration on this incredible new line from Mattel. First, I did some 'zoom-in' details and clever crops of my better photos. Then I wrote some words.

These pics, coupled with my memories of discussing the line with Dr. Mego himself -- Paul Clarke -- ensure that this is a blog you DON'T WANT TO MISS:

    Mattel WGSH: High-Quality Prototype Photos!

    Enjoy. I sure did...!

Thank you, sir! Writing that Blog took WAAAAY longer than I expected. My adorable Gurl (i.e. my fiancee) has long-since gone to bed, so I decided to stay up for a bit, diving head-long into the Deep-Water Love of Mego Goodness.

My pleasure. I am thrilled I got to see the Prototypes in person... I have attended the past thirteen San Diego Comic-Cons, always hunting for vintage Mego figures. Never, in my wildest dreams, did I imagine shopping for (the equivalent of) NEW 8" World's Greatest Super-Heroes!

Yet, next year, I might be doing just that...

In reviewing my convention photos, I've been doing a lot of "compare and contrast" between those Vintage Mego figures and these Modern Mattel figures. It appears Mattel's most significant "update" to Mego's 30+ year-old manufacturing techniques is the ostracism of OVEN MITTS, coupled with the introduction of Pleather (faux-Leather) Gauntlets (which I , BTW).

Sure, Mego produced gauntlets... but never in such a heavy, textured material.

What else do you guys view as significant updates/changes/variations to Mego's original tooling?

                  -b

p.s. BTW, is that the distinction we must embrace? The "New Romantic Semantics," if you will? Henceforth, shall it be "Vintage Mego" vs. "Modern Mattel," whenever we discuss 8" WGSH toys????!

Nah, they'll never be Modern Mattel to me, they are new Megos
Apart from the pleather and the gauntlets in stead of oven mitts they've retooled a couple of heads, especially Supes is an improvement.
And I'm sure as new waves are announced we might even see completely new outfits for vintage figures such as Catwoman and Penguin (never did like those purple pants Mego gave him)
