    >We see trailers, clips, photos, behind the scenes views, etc. weeks & months, even years in some cases for every movie or TV series we want to see.

AMEN! I purposefully tried NOT to hear anything about "Godzilla: Final Wars" before it came out, but by the time I had seen it I knew most of the plot, AND who the surprise monster was at the end.

    *sigh*

The fact that they're over... The 70s are no better than any decade that came before or after... They all have a few good points, a few bad points, but generally it's all just life going on as usual.

For a large number of people here the 70s were the best decade because of fond childhood memories. Maybe not for others who may not have experienced it.

If I could go back to the '70's I would do it and never look back.
I do miss those days. I had a lot of fun growing up back then, riding bikes all over the place, playing Kick the ball (hide and seek game), Kick ball, man hunt and a whole host of others.
I also miss going sleding until you could nolonger feel your extremites was always fun. Having my mom drop me off at any toy section of any store and not coming back to get me for an hour or more and she knew I would be right there when she came back.
I had alot of fun with the toys in the '70's the most because when the 80's hit and I graduated in '85 and I felt funny buying toys but I always still looked.

I couldn't tell you how many dozens of SW POTF figures I looked at but passed on for .50-1.00 in the discount bins or pegs at KB's because I thought the clerks at KB, especially the cute girls, would think I was gay or wierd because I was buying toys. I kick my self in the butt everytime I think on how perpressure had an effect on me.

It's all a matter of perspective. If you were 25 or under during those years, you probably remember them fondly. I mean, if you're a carefree kid with no job, no bills to pay, and no responsibilities, when isn't life great? Conversely, if you were an adult who had to slug to work every day wearing garish polyester clothes, it was probably just another decade.

As I said, because of CHILDHOOD memories that took place during the 70s. So that would exclude most adults wouldn't it?

Being there at the birth of Star Wars and in the midst of the heyday of stuff I still love now like Star Trek, Planet Of The Apes, KISS (although I was a little late hopping on the KISS bandwagon, I became a fan as they were starting to want in popularity at the time) and, of course, Mego.

I love how the afternoons and Saturday Mornings were TV kid time, running all sorts of great stuff like cartoons, old sci-fi and horror movies and old TV shows.

I love how it was possible to still see movies in theaters off the beaten Hollywood path (You know, like the Sunn classic pseudo documentaries).

                      Exactly slats7...

I mean the way some people on here go on about the 70s being the greatest decade ever is crazy, as you pointed out, it's their childhoods that they're looking back at, not the 70s... Sadly some can't seperate the two, but most posts here seem to... The thing is, the hard-core "70s fanatics" would be the same way they are now if they were around in the 30s. They'd be going on about how great it was to have most of their toys made of wood and how great it was to go down to the Bijou on Saturday afternoons to see the latest "Andy Hardy" film and going to get a lemon phosphate after the show.

What I don't get Apes, is why you're trying to bring this thread down? The original poster, (who by the way is just 12 years old) asked what we thought was great about the 70s. Those of us who were kids at that time are going to answer enthusiastically. To us, (and even to a few people I know who were adults and teens at that time), thought it was cool. And we are on a MEGO forum, whose action figure heyday was in the 70s. If you don't think the 70s were all that great, then why did you answer at all? We're on this forum to have fun, remember?
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."

Pinball machines is another thing I miss- going to an arcade with those flashing lights, bells...our favorite three machines were PLAYBOY MANSION (Guess why- we were 16! It had this great graphic of Hef and bikini clad girls, all the bumpers were hot pink!)...KISS (great blasting music!)...and this weird CB Trucker machine that would periodically say"Breaker 1-9 Good Buddy!"- that one we played because it was "loose" and you could win free games a lot (nothing like that hard "KUH-LOCK" when you hit).

Wish I had room to put one of these in my basement. You just don't see too many anymore, it's all gone to video games-Damn you Ms. PacMan!

Getting out of the house, going to friends for like, ALL day, not having a lot of chores at home (being a bit poor..), just playing Megos, or Star Wars adventures all day long during the summer or weekends. Going to Kmart and seeing new Mego releases.

Hating the Saturday morning 'toons, having high expectations. Watching those exclusive 'Friday Before' specials ABC would have in September, giving previews of the new cartoons to premiere the next morning.

Going to the store just to scope out the new Marvel comics or any magazine mentioning Star Trek, all for under a dollar.

Riding your bikes.. everywhere. Dinner always on the table at night. Late Saturday night (10:30 CST) watching a new episode of Space:1999 (1st year), having just built the 'new' Eagle model. Building Trek AMT or superhero models. 'Happy Days' or 'Threes Company'.., definitely 'Starsky and Hutch'.
                              Peace.. Through Superior Firepower.

My first seven years alive were during the 1970s so needless to say I have very fond and nostalgic memories of that time. Even now I gravitate towards the music, fashion, and obviously the toys of the 1970s the most.

I guess one of the most favorite parts/memories I have of that time would be.....being at my house on New Years Eve, and my parents would always have a party down in our basement, complete with typical '70s bar, pool table and stereo with funky red lights and decorations. I'd be all over-excited from all the activity, and my parents would get me a kiddie cocktail and some hors d'ouvres and I'd play with my recent Star Wars or Mego toys I'd just acquired the week before for Xmas, while listening to their disco music blasting from downstairs, and watching the NYE festivities on the television.
