What "male" child in his right mind would want love boat figures? I have always wondered why they were made.

I can see it now, mom says "Ok Billy, I'll buy you and action figure, do you want batman, Robin, maybe one of the star trek guys?", Billy says, " Nah mom, I always wanted a Gopher and Doc figure to play with".

Love Boat wasn't a bad idea, just a bizarre execution. Those should have been 12" fashion dolls for girls, no boy wanted them.

I would have to say a line which never got made anyhow: Dallas.

You want to sell Dallas action figures to who exactly??? Kids don't watch Dallas and at the time I doubt any adults who watched it would have bought toys based on the show. Chips, Love Boat, GAH, Waltons all make a hellov'a lot more sense by comparison.

i like some of the late run mego toys like pocket heroes, greatest american hero, and even dukes but the love boat toys just seems dumb to me of course i've never seen an episode so that maybe has something to do with it.

I have to go with the Waltons. I NEVER watched that show as a kid and can't imagine what kind of adventures I would dream up for them.
I also loved the Rascals and had Alfalfa as a kid. I could never get over the appendage he had on his head!

As for the Waltons, I think it was more geared toward little girls. I have recently watched the series with my wife who grew to be a fan. She is waiting for the final season to be released on netflix because she hasn't seen it and want's to know what they endured during WWII. As for a show, it has historical significance of what life is like without an ecomony and the WWII boom. It loses appeal to us now but remember back when the Waltons aired, along with the rascals, it was only 40 years ago. Still very real in the memories of the viewers. Just as the 60's and 70's appeal to us.

I'd have to go with the Love Boat, Captain and Tennile or Lavern and Shirley but I'm sure those were aimed toward little girls as well.

Even so, I love that truck! And I want a real one!

I know they never completed the line, but seeing the prototypes
Why would Mego think that anyone would want to buy Dallas Figures.
Someone must of got the rights to that one very cheap.
Glad they woke up and pulled the plug.
I think you are onto something. My wife has vivid memories of the Love boat and Fantasy Island. I watched them too once and awhile. I loved BJ and the Bear and the Dukes of Hazzard.

I even snuck and watched Dallas now and again. But that show was definitely NOT for kids. Why not make a line of action figures for Days of Our Lives now?
