what is the most unnessary mego line?

now not every action figure line has the appeal of wgsh , star trek or even mad monsters and my question is this which line of figures should have never been made

    waltons?

    wecome back kotter? (mattel)

    the love boat?

    captain and tennille?

and many other mego and non-mego lines from the 70's that will sent shivers down your spine. it's makes you wonder why they passed on the idea of star wars yet release some of that goofiest figures ever made .

Love Boat gets my vote, mostly for the poor execution. It's a line that should have been marketed at girls but they're made to fit in with boy's toys.

They should have made some fashion dolls and left it at that.

Our Gang- I mean, that show was way old in the 70's and I don't remember any kids really being into it. At least Walton's, Love Boat etc... were popular properties at the time Mego released them.

I was really into those as a kid. If I had seen those figures, I'd have been all over them. Oddly, I don't care for them now....

I, too, loved the Little Rascals when I was a kid. I don't know if I would have wanted action figures, but I'd watch most anything that ran on my local UHF channels.

I have to go with the Waltons. I NEVER watched that show as a kid and can't imagine what kind of adventures I would dream up for them.

Tie between LOVE BOAT and OUR GANG, As mentioned by Palitoy love boat should have been marketed at girls as a fashion doll and our gang well lets just say it was a lame idea and leave it at that

I gotta vote for Love Boat.

I get a lot of use out of of Waltons and Our Gang for Custom figures.

Love boat, but you gotta love Issac, since he does exist.

I watched Our Gang/Little Rascals all the time as a kid, "way old" or not. (then again, I also watched stuff like Harold Lloyd and Chaplin when I was a kid). I'm not sure if I would have really wanted Our Gang figures though, but I never even knew of their existance at the time.

I'd really have to go with Waltons. I stayed clear away from that show when I was a kid, had no interest at all. Did any little kids even watch the show, let alone want to play with the toys? I'm guessing that most of Mego's Walton's purchases were from parents that were big fans of the show and refused to buy their kids superhero or Star Trek toys because they were too violent and unwholesome, so they bought them some Waltons figures instead. I feel sorry for those kids.

Of course, if Mego went ahead with their Dallas line of figures, we would have a clear winner.

                    Hmmmm....

If you'e including 3.5" figures then yeah, Love Boat by far! (Although it might have been fun to have the Boat hijacked by Cobra....) For 8" then the Waltons. (Although they DO make good victims for cooler figures, like the Mad Monsters....)

I'm going a different way and go with C.H.I.P.s. Not the 3 3/4" stuff mind you,the 8" stuff. I mean you've got Ponch,Jon and Sarge. That's it. At least with the 3 3/4" stuff, there was bad guys for them to chase.

                          Hmmm....

The Waltons seems pretty unpopular here, but I love them! Well made, great playset & accessory. What's wrong with a "nonviolent" line that would also appeal to girls? And the sculpts are great!

We used to watch the show as a family and it's still entertaining, much more intelligent and less saccharine than "Little House on the Prairie" of the same era.

What's the criteria for considering the cheesy 1,000,000 BC line more
                          "necessary" than the Walton's?

I'd watch the Waltons weekday afternoons in reruns but there's no way I'd ever even think they'd make good toys. Seriously...the show was set during the Depression in Virginia...how much fun is that for a kid to re-enact with action figures?

You have to look at things through the eyes of a 10 year old boy - What's more fun to play with: cavemen fighting (or getting eaten by) dinosaurs; or Grandma and Grandpa Walton hanging around the farm house? It's no contest.
