Hi Guys !
Just got back from my lunch with Mr "Pin Pin Toys".
What a great and loveable guy !
It only lasted an hour, but what a great hour.
Learn quite a few things, but it was more an "fan" discussion than a real interview.
I'll let you know what I learned this evening.
I gave him a printed "prototype" of the double-page (of my book) in which Mego / Pin Pin Toys are being featured.
Regarding the book, the last 20 days have been pretty busy.
I was only able to catch 4 hours of sleep per night since I had to "sketch" 40 pages of the book.
My co-author is a talented story-boarder, but timing was short ...
Book is being completed, deadlines are overdue, a nightmare ...
Anyway, I decided to show you some stuff ...
Please, remember it's a "wide audience" book, not really aimed at collectors. So it's not exhaustive, but rather "complete".
Here's my sketching for the page mentionned earlier :
And here is the first draft ... note that we're not assembling the book like Benjamin did.
That work is being assumed by a company assigned by my editor.
Minor things to change, but it's 80% complete
Many thanks to Scott A for letting me use the Superman / Spiderman art he did.
Thanks also to Tom L for the Superman 12" pic, plus Batman & Robin ... See Tom, I'm using them!

Glad you guys like it. It's hard to "infuse" the book-designers with our "pop culture". There are so many good ideas that end up kinda waisted, you have no idea. The book will only ressemble 60% of what we had in mind, but we weren't given the choice.
Thanks mate (can I use the "mate" word with a gal ??) ! Cheers !Last edited by PinPinToys; Jul 8, '08, 9:27 AM.Comment

That looks fantastic!
The editing process can always be frustrating for the creators, but its usually necessary. I'm looking forward to buying a copy of this book. I'm also looking forward fore more info from your interview.WANTED - Solid-Boxed WGSH's, C.8 or better.Comment

Thanks guys, your feedback is pretty encouraging.
Gotta admit we've had many "lows" regarding this book.
Lotsa "frictions" with the editor, tons of tough conversation between my co-author and I (took his time to do his share in matter of writting ... had to write some of "his" subjects ... then I had to sketch pages, which wasn't part of the "deal"), harsh comments from (French) toy collectors ...
Anyway, really glad you like what you see.
More on the interview / lunch later this evening.
EDIT : due to some negociation with a French partner associated to the project (a very important company of the food industry), the book's distribution "in real life" is limited to some european countries.
If you want to get the book, you'll have to order it from the Internet.Last edited by PinPinToys; Jul 8, '08, 11:31 AM.Comment
