Awesome thread, Dan. Thanks for starting it!

I honestly don't know what I am anymore in terms of Mego collecting. From Dan's earlier post, I think I'm a little bit of "have everything I want that I can afford" and a little bit of "scavenging for dirt cheap deals." The last Mego I bought was a U.S. carded Invisible Girl at an online auction, which I promptly resold. Theoretically, I should be taking that money and putting it toward some boxed Megos, but I honestly just don't have the burning desire to own them all anymore. I don't mean to make this sound like I'm blaming the internet or anything, but the Museum and sites like eBay have made it abundantly clear that there is a ton of Mego around and I don't need to act now or miss out. 99.9% of everything will come up again.

Sorry, gang. Dr MEGO, MEGO73 and TheToyroom ruined me. I luv looking at the old stuff but would rather piece figures together with repro parts and boxes that look new.
If a Mego figure of God did not exist, it would be necessary for EMCE to invent him.

Still here and on the boards at least a few minutes every day. Still buying and enjoying the hunt with spending sprees and dry spells. Even after all these years, there is still more out there I want to buy than I can afford.

I didn't realize there was still a back room and jealous I have been missing out on some good conversations for sure! I guess I forgot the secret handshake.
Common sense is not that common.

I prefer to collect vintage, but have also picked up some retro stuff. However, I'm not willing to pay for MIB/MOC, unless it's at a nice discount. Basically, I want the comfort of believing that I'd at least break even if I ever had to sell quickly. So, in the case of Anarocker's carded figures, I'd probably be willing to pay 65%-70% of the (already fair IMO) asking prices. I've become financially gun-shy after taking losses when the housing & stock markets tanked.

The other thing is that I'm not opposed to repro/loose/resealed. I generally try to buy clean and original figures, suits and accessories, but have no problem sticking them in boxes or cards by Mego73. I actually kind of enjoy the challenge of resealing figures on open cards, and that's what I'm pursuing at present.

            Newbie perspective

I can't really speak to the history of this site. I've only been reading posts here for a couple months, and only posting a couple weeks. I have found the folks who post very helpful and entertaining. If it's changed or not, it's still the best site and forum around.

              I've always said I consider myself a full-time enthusiast but part-time collector.

Reason being when I buy a few times a year so it's not a constant financial drain. Also by being careful with what I purchase there is no danger of having to sell. I'm sure you've seen it over the years: someone comes gun blazings buys some cool stuff and six months later they are selling it all. I may not have the biggest collection but everything I've bought in the last five years has stayed with me.
Regarding anarocker's stuff I'd say the timing is bad. I'd been saving cash for Mego Meet coming up shortly. So as much as I'd have liked to buy that Cap it would eat a hole in my budget for the Meet which as a one a year event takes precedence for me.
Quick note on the price issue, what seems "cheap" to a seasoned collector is not to the average person. I know at least one person who would love to start a vintage collection but with trying a raise a family the money just isn't there.
Then there are guys like me. I a decent amount of disposable income but I like to do things. So if it's adding a piece to my collection vs. a weekend getaway, the getaway usually wins.
Finally, at this stage of the game many pieces are locked into collections and unless you know people finding what you want isn't as easy as going on Ebay. case in point 90% of my boxed/carded pieces were all purchased from the same three members here.

I'm still here, and almost exclusively collect vintage stuff (not just Megos, but they make up the majority). Not buying as much as I used to because I got much of the more common stuff out of the way, so now a lot of the stuff I'm looking for is the scarcer, expensive stuff. And not being rich, and having a family and all, I really can't spend (without a guilty conscience) as much money on toys that I used to in my carefree days. Plus ebay has really been sucking recently, it seems that most people selling vintage are just putting BINs up, with pie in the sky prices (hey, it's free to list, so why not? ugh!).

As far as the dearth of vintage topic threads, I guess maybe a lot of "old timers" feel that most topics have been talked into the ground. Maybe it's just hard to think of fresh angles to discuss on (mostly) the same old toys, considering how much has been talked about over the last 15 or so here and on the mailing lists before that. It's always great when some new topic can be addressed, I know that it makes me excited. I still love this place to death, and if we can get some more vintage discussions going, I'm very much behind it!

I collect vintage. I have the majority of the WGSH set and I'm not in a rush to finish out the collection. I still buy duplicate loose WGSH figures when I see a good deal on here.

I also collect a lot of other vintage superhero stuff. I purchased two sets of the Retro Action line, but I'm not as into newer items. And I'm on here more days than I'm not.
                  My Updated Want List:
                  Comic book original art
1970s Hulk or Spider-man metal garbage can
                  Custom Mego Nexus, Grendel

Have lots of comics and Marvel Legends figures for trades. Thanks!

I admit, i've lost some of the zip that drives me to collect vintage Mego. A combination of less funds to play with and inflated shipping charges on Ebay isn't encouraging me with over seas transactions. Also, If I see a item these days that only ships US, instead of the usual pleading to be allowed to join the bidding, i now just move on. I guess some of the fun isn't there anymore.

I'm still very much the vintage Mego collector. There is a list a mile long of WGSH MOC/MIB, vehicles and other lines I'm still looking for. I just need 5 WGSH MIB to complete my boxed set - I've needed the same 5 for over 4 years now. Lack of money was my main reason for not buying when I was laid off back in '09. And I've missed a LOT of great deals because of that fact since. But I am back at work now so hopefully that aspect will change here in the upcoming months.

I've also discovered with the move that I have collected way too many different lines of toys over the years. Not everything is going to fit in my new toyroom. Which means most likely the new stuff will go first (DC Mini-mates anyone?). The move is making me refocus my collecting attention and decide what I really want to collect. Mego will always come first and be the main focus of my collection. I mean I think I may have the most complete Fashion Candi collection among Mego collectors .

And I saw anarockers sales thread. I just have those already.

I also want to add that I do apologize for letting Mego of the Week slip. I will try and bring it back soon.

It's not like you have been busy moving or anything like that.

This is more or less where I am. With age has come patience, and I don't NEED to have things right now. I buy the cheap new stuff that I like, and if I live long enough I'll build the rest of my vintage collection in a few years. You guys seem to take good care of stuff, and sooner or later everybody sells and/or has a price.

Once you come to terms with the sobering fact that you may be into Megos for the rest of your life it does make a long term approach possible. I'll be haunting your estate sales in my walker/hovercraft with my robo-nurse in tow.

                              ^this.

and recently with some of the price fluctuations I've been lucky enough to pick up things I previously couldn't have afforded... So I need to go back to squirreling money for BBP Dr Who. Unless something vintage shows up

I am the same way with Tomlands and vintage Star Wars. There really is no hurry.
