WOW! That seems very weird to me. A price of $19.99 + tax at retail is pushing it in my opinion for what these are to begin with. But $23 + is really crazy expensive. There have been pics posted before of the figures on the pegs at TRU with a price of $19.99 hanging over their heads, so I assumed this was the going rate at all TRU's. Paying $25 or more at the specialty shops is one thing and probably a lot of ppl have gone that route to ensure they get the entire set with no effort needing to be spent toward the hunt at their local TRU. Heck, I was one myself because I AM a collector. And a higher price per figure is to be expected under those circumstances I suppose. But when there's prices on the rise like that at retail I'm afraid it could make this line suffer. It has been said numerous times how these are and should be viewed as toys first and foremost, but I expect many a mom or gramma out there looking for "Tommy's" B-day present is going to pass them up because of the higher price. To me the price has always seemed to be in a "collectibles" bracket verses a toy at retail anyway. I really hope Mattel doesn't cut their own throat in regards to this line with prices on the rise at their "exclusive" retail dealer - being TRU.

    Just my opinion.

I think, one of the reasons that toys r us workers see adults scooping up these figures is not only due to the resellers(toy pirates) but that most of us who grew up on these classic figures, are now buying the new ones, and yes the ones who have kids get 2 sets of each, one for the dad and one for the child and if has more then one child perhaps one for each child is purchased. also, the price, as well as the item itself is tending to stir to the adult collector, a child may not be inclined to purchase them, nor a parent who is on a budget and did not collect them as a child.
Whats yar opnion on the matter? I want to know

I totally agree. A kid's allowance $ only goes so far and why spend that much on one figure if they can get "DCU" or similar figures for half as much or more. If I were a kid I'd rather get a couple of my faves even if they're in a smaller but more play-friendly scale... not that kids are weighing their decisions so meticulously. To them it tends to be more about quantity rather than quality as long as they look like their heroes.

I gotta disagree somewhat. Every week my two older children do chores around the house to earn their toy money, and every Saturday morning we go to TRU so they can spend it. Both children have learned to save their money for a week or two if there is a toy they really want bad enough.
Although they both could afford one $10 toy per week, more often than not they choose to wait the extra week so they can buy the single larger toy. Don't get me wrong, there are weeks when $10 is enough for that long evasive wrestler or Barbie; however, saving for an additional week to pay for the higher priced toy is not something they fear so long as they want it.
Just my opinion and observations within my own family.

Some of the early cell phone pics of the figures in the wild showed a 22.99 price point... I paid 19.99 each here in FL. These pricing structures are usually regional for retail... though TRU seems fairly uniform in my experience - as opposed to say, Target, where some pricing and certainly clearance discount waves have store manager discretion attached and can vary a lot store by store. I'd be interested to know if it's a state thing for TRU, or something to do with population density (maybe urban areas impact freight charge, etc)

              Re: Allowance $

My nieces are polar opposite with money... the younger one is a cash hoarder and the older one spends it instantly. She can save up for a certain toy when she wants to, but it's more struggle for her. It's the same with birthdays and christmas... the younger one is six, and she'll hold christmas presents until february just opening a few every couple of days. They're a nature/nurture microcosm.

Yep, when I was there several days ago, they only had those two Luthors and a Sinestro, I picked up the Sinestro. I wish they had GL too! I might go back soon and pick up that last Luthor if it's still there. I managed to find the Superman at the TRU by Ford City Mall yesterday

Now, the Bad News, as seems to be the trend, They only had 2 figures of each.

I purchased one complete set, and then some guy saw them in my basket and asked me where did you get them, I told him there was only 3 left, (I was going to get an extra sinestro to display at work) He went there, looked at them, and picked up 2 figures, then he decided to get all 3, I told him do u want the 4th figure? he said oh yes, I told him, I had an extra one, He took it, we talked for a little about how he had the figures as a child etc. then we went about our way.
I love to hear stories like this. More than once I've pulled a figure out of my shopping kart at the store to hand to a stranger. Especially if there's a kid involved.

I'm constantly getting extra clone/stormtroopers for my 9-year-old, and more than once I've given away one that was the last on the pegs that my boy already had. I know we're as excited as our kids to gt these action figures, but big props to anybody who makes a child's day with a kind act!!

Our homies have finally hit the shelves in Seattle, at least at the one I have been checking. Last week when I was there they had two empty pegs, both labeled DCU World's Greatest. Today when I went back they were down to one peg, and it was still empty...I almost turned around and walked away but for whatever reason I looked around and saw Sinestro sitting on the shelf. Underneath was a GL and Luthor; no Supes. Bodies look a little wonky but I grabbed all three to compare to the ones I bought on ebay...my GL and Sinestro had wonky bodies also. Regardless of which ones I keep I will probably throw the others up on the Marketplace.

Had many stops to make on the way home from work today and the TRU I hadn't already hit was one of them. I thought it was going to be another strike out but they had one each left of Lex, Sinestro and Green Lantern. Unfortunately the budget would only allow for one this week so I chose Lex, my biggest "want" out of the lineup.

                                That looks like Alderwood TRU.
I went there on Sunday morning and found them. No supes. I left that one LL there. That was the only one worth getting for me. But walked away with none.
Though it felt good walking in TRU and seeing these on pegs. Of course in the clearance section?

                                I'm passing on this wave.

Did you check Northgate TRU? I did and it's still empty. How lame is that? That's the closest one to Seattle. Alderwood is the next county over.
