Funny thing is, I agree with a lot of the points you posted, yet still loved the movie.

I can understand that. It's not because I find fault with aspects of a movie, that I totally dislike every single aspect of it. Like I loved the first part of Attack of the Clones, but disliked the second part. Same with Mad Max Thunderdome, for example.
I guess in the end, you make up a sum of your likes and dislikes, and then decide whether the movie is a success (in your own eyes) or not.
And sometimes, indeed, you can love a film even though you find several things in it "wrong".
I thought the ending to Alien Resurrection was awful (hate the Newborn concept), but I have to admit to enjoying the whole movie. I guess space pirates are my guilty pleasure, even though I know most people didn't like this movie at all.

Seen this yesterday along with Snow White & The Huntsman...a Charlize Theron double feature. Have to say that of the two, I found Snow White (a story that's been done to death & beyond) to be the superior of the two films. I found Prometheus to be bad from start to finish, with only a few brief moments of "wow" swimming in long periods of bad acting and bad story telling. Tried way too hard to follow the formula of the first Alien film, and fell completely flat...IMO.

I found nothing likeable about any of the characters...except for David (too bad the synthetic had already been beaten to death 3x over in the prior installments...because Fassbender really did a great job). Would really liked to have seen more of & learned more about the ancients. Perhaps a little less time spent on trying to create a new Ripley, less time spent on Theron reminding everybody that she's in charge, a complete elimination of her father's reapperance, and a little less time on the obvous expendables would have allowed a little time for something fresh and new.

Off to try and figure out how to get my Rubik's cube to light up and project images on the wall. Until next time...

I finally saw this film yesterday. I know I'm late but yesterday was the first chance I had. I really liked it! I don't know if it was a masterpiece but for two hours I was hooked...I thought Michael Fassbinder was great as David the Android. I don't think they utilized Idris Elba(the Captain) as much as they should have. Anyone who has seen Luther or The Wire knows that he's very talented and probably could have used some more screen time.

But otherwise it was a good show and no real complaints here.

Now I have to find a theater that's still showing that other big Summer movie I've put off seeing...it's called Avenger or something......

Anyone else think that Michael Fassbender was actually starring in WALL-E sequel in that first part of the film? Agreed that it was a great performance. Close-enough-to-human-but-not-quite kinda creepy.

That is something that I didn't even consider until you mentioned it and you know what, that's dead on. Now that you mention it, that irks me even more because Rapace's character was sooo weak to begin with. I'm not a big fan of Ripley because I think the franchise did not need her in every movie but that's exactly what they were trying to do here. ALIEN does not need a main character because the main character are the Aliens and yet Ripley had to show up in almost all of the films and I guess (I can't even recall the characters name) is going to be in a Prometheus sequel...meh. At least Ripley served some purpose in Aliens and could hold her own with the marines. She didn't start to suck until the third film and really that whole thing was a disaster. The Rapace character was really weak and annoying especially in the first half and I don't think she evolved as the movie went on, she just got less annoying. I guess aborting an Alien fetus growing at an alarming rate inside of you will do that but I didn't even realize she was the girl from the Dragon Tattoo until that scene. So far, I've seen her in two other movies since the Swedish Dragoon Tattoo series and there's something lacking. She's no Sigourney Weaver that's for sure and I can't see her holding her own as the main character if there's a second Prometheus.

Seen Prometheus twice already (only one Avengers viewing)...that's how much I liked it.

I really liked it. It's got a fair handful of holes in the story, plot and characters. But that didn't stop it from being a really fun monster/sci-fi film for me. Ridley Scott is the master of the "genre picture", but that's not without inherent genre issues. PROMETHEUS is at its heart a haunted-house movie... or perhaps more properly a "Frankenstein's Castle" adventure.

Finally seen Prometheus on Fox Movie last night.

Man, that was pretty dang good.

The 3D Blu Ray is spectacular.

I like it too. Not as an ALIEN prequel, but as a return to Heavy Metal style Sci Fi. It is a gorgeously made film, but honestly, I could've had the connections to ALIEN be severed.

Really? I think it's stunning in its cinematography. Watch the special features and you'll see quite a bit of practical effects work.

On my home projector, it's reference quality 3D.

I actually liked this movie. It's certainly not without criticism, though. I guess I liked it because it's more than your usual 'monster-on-the-loose' film. I read somewhere Scott had a script for the movie that he was extremely happy with but the movie studio made him go with Damon Lindelof's script. The movie is flawed, yes, but I really can't see why so many people hate it so much.
