Sure, there are definitely a few plot holes that leave you wondering about certain things... but I'm guessing these might be addressed by Ridley in the inevitable director's cut with any extra footage.

I've been reading a lot of negative reviews for the movie. I still plan to see it next Saturday. Perhaps I can make it a double bill with 'The Avengers' (which I have not seen yet) at the local megamovieplex.I am more than machine. More than man. More than a fusion of the two.Comment

Not so negative...Rotten Tomatoes has it with an 79% positive rating...not too shabby...

I've waited like 2 years since 1st hearing about this flick. Alien is probably may favorite movie...if not it's pretty close, so I was eagerly awaiting this and staying away from rumors and reviews. I just got back from seeing it and BOY! Did I ever not like it! I guess I shoulda looked at some reviews as I think this is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Won't be getting it on DVD either.Comment

Almost a year ago I posted that Ridley Scott was a terrible director and that his best years were behind him. I called him the "Nick Cage of directing" and said for every five movies he makes, only one of them is decent. I got my head bit off. From what I've heard about this film, it's not good. I still want to see it but Ridley Scott seems to be more of a name than a talent at this point.
Also my 6 year old want to go see this too. Any thoughts on that? He can handle scary and language is what it is but I draw the line at sex scenes.Last edited by spacecaps; Jun 9, '12, 5:20 PM."Many Shubs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Sloar that day I can tell you."Comment

74% positive rating at Rotten Tomatoes is a good solid rating.
Ridley Scott a terrible director?
You seem to make a lot of bold statements, my friend (Tom Welling comes to mind)...just be prepared for some light retaliation, he, he, he...
Your head should still be bitten off for such remarks...

OK, time has passed, so I'll say a few things.
SPOILERS!!!!!
First of all, I couldn't care less about any of the characters. If one gets killed...so what?
With the exception of the Captain, you never bond with any of them.
Charlize Theron still thinks she's in Snow White, playing the Ice Queen. She plays a totally egotistical person, and unfortunately, she's about the only one that makes it to the end. Well, almost. The actress claims to have patterned her portrayal on Ripley. Huh? Stop smoking pot, Charlize. And get away from that mirror, we know you're the fairest...
Fassbender plays exactly the same role as Ian Holm did in Alien: I'm a android. I serve people. With a large helping of fries... All he cares about is, yet again, impregnating a human with an alien.
And with all the tech on board, flying to other worlds, making robots, I had to wince when he said "we're not equiped to do an abortion on this vessel". All ethics aside...
OK, the big finale. This planet is thousands of miles of desert and rock. So when that huge donut ship starts rolling towards them (I imagined Johnny Depp running along the inside), all they can do is keep running in a straight line and get crushed. Take a left, guys!
When the Captain decides on his suicide run, oddly enough, the remaining crew are fine with that. "Shall we kamikaze that alien ship? Yeah, sure, no problem." They even crack a joke and smile. Would you, considering that they knew little to nothing about what was going on?
Then we get to the aliens. They didn't want to use a chestburster. That's old news. So they used... a squid. Big difference, and all we want to see is a chest burster anyway. Same for the bigger alien. He just pops out, fully grown out of a guy's chest, looking...sort of like an Alien. He seems to have been added just to give the audience something.
So no, I didn't like it. Did I want the same old thing as before? No, but this certainly wasn't it. With a couple of modifications, this movie would have no connection to Alien.
Btw, I hated what they did to the Jockey. It's just a guy in a space suit, apparently. Wow, the mystery...
And for those of us curious about our Maker: in this concept, The Creator is a homicidal maniac, ready to kill just about everything. It's inspiring...
I think Scott is a great director, but not in recent times. This movie had a real George Lucas feel to it.
But for those of you who disagree with me, enjoy!!!!!Last edited by Gorn Captain; Jun 10, '12, 11:33 AM..

So was Alien and Aliens but he liked those movies just fine. That's kind of why he wants to see this one. Like I said, I won't let him watch a movie with a sex scene in it. At home, its one thing but in the theater you can't fast forward. That's how we had to watch Watchmen. As soon as that ridiculous sex scene in the middle of the movie was about to start I hit the skip button on the DVD and it went right to the next scene."Many Shubs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Sloar that day I can tell you."Comment

Isn't six years old a little young to see Alien?
These movies are rated R for a reason.
I think I'd rather show my kid two people making love, than a vicious alien bursting out of someone's chest in a pool of blood.
But that's just me....

Just saw it last night.., a friend talked me into it.. I liked it..
Loved the plot holes, like if those spinning balls painstakingly mapped out the caves.., how could the two guys get lost if they had comms with the ship, which had all the map info.
Still was a pretty good film. Loved seeing the 'alien' at the end, finally born. It did pose more questions than answer, but there's nothing wrong with a movie that makes you think. I might even pick it up on DVD someday.Peace.. Through Superior Firepower.
