These movies are rated R for a reason.
I think I'd rather show my kid two people making love, than a vicious alien bursting out of someone's chest in a pool of blood.
    But that's just me...
    Exactly...lol.

      I LOVED THE MOVIE!

I'm a die hard Aliens fan so this movie was highly anticipated by me!

      * This is not a movie for kids! It is rated 'R' for a reason! your kids do not belong in this movie at all.

*Ridley Scott is one hell of a director! The last part of the movie was fun!

I saw it last night...didn't really care for it, and there was one thing that bugged the CRAP out of me.

        SPOILERS!

When the android was decapitated by the jockey and left on the floor of the main control room, it was BEFORE the ship took off. The ship was then PLOWED INTO, CRASHED, AND FLIPPED OVER.

Yet when our heroine goes back into the now crashed vessel, the android is still in the main control room lying in the EXACT SAME SPOT, HIS HEAD STILL A FEW FEET FROM HIS BODY.

Ummm...unless he was suplerglued to the floor he should have rattled around inside there like a bouncy ball.

This movie was so full of holes in my opinion it isn't even funny. What enyawd72 points out is just one of many. I think Alien and Aliens( my 2 favorites of the series) are great and each can serve as a stand alone movie without anybody having to see the others which is one reason I think they work. I even think the other two Alien movies are far superior to Prometheus (whether it is an Alien prequal or not). I also agree with what Gorn Captain said. In other threads folks mentioned how aweful they thought the acting was in Event Horizon or how that movie sucked, I liked it and feel the performances in that movie are better than in Prometheus, especially when looking at the different calibre of actors in each movie. I hated Prometheus and fell Ridley Scott has become way overated, but that doesn't mean there are people who won't love this movie. There is no such thing as a perfect movie anyway. As a fan of Alien I am very disapointed.

And yet Kenner made a child's toy for this film. Its all relative. As a child I was more scared from a movie I only saw a part of instead of the whole thing. Nightmare on Elm Street used to keep me up at night from the previews but after I saw it at a friends house one afternoon, I thought it was silly. We started simple with the old time 50's movies...The Fly, The Blob, The Creature From The Black Lagoon...we moved back to the older Universal horror movies, then went after the 80's stuff. He ate up Terminator to the point where we had to watch all of them and then we watched the Blob remake...he loved that....the chest burster scene in Alien scared the poop out of him but we laugh about it now. He actually loved the reference in Space Balls. Honestly I was more disturbed and uncomfortable when we watched Legend and Flash Gordon more than some of the horror films we've seen. Those two films are creepy and he actually made me turn Flash Gordon off. I've never taken him into a movie without having watched it myself first but the Prometheus trailer was on so many movies he's been harping on it for weeks now. He's a well rounded kid and I'd rather have him show an interest in seeing these films than being to terrified to even watch a preview. The movie that scarred him most..Jaws. I'm probably also not a typical parent when it comes to doing stuff with my kid. I take him everywhere and do everything with him. While most parents would find a sitter, he's always included (it is after all just the two of us) and he learned quick that there's no aliens or robots gonna get him but I don't want a child watching two people bone during a film.

I totally enjoyed it. Seeing so many of the discarded early concepts for ALIEN brought into this film was a hoot. Ridley Scott is still the master of the genre film.

Yeah, it had a lot of cardboard characters and some holes here & there, but overall I thought it was a worthy part of the Alien world and a nice explanation of the 'space jockey'.

There are things man was not meant to know. And just because you've mastered the building blocks of life itself doesn't mean you're immune from being a total ba5tard.

Ridley Scott even stated in an interview that Prometheus would have some holes but he is working on another one to go along with this film if Prometheus does well.

As I stated earlier in this thread, I love the movie!

Yes it may have a some scenes where you go 'Huh'? but how do you not enjoy the fact that you finally know how the birth of Aliens comes about.

As expected, Ridley Scott has said that there might well be an extended cut of the movie available on Blu-ray... perhaps longer by about 20 minutes.

COLLIDER: You’re going to do an extended cut on the Blu-ray/DVD. Is it a lot longer?

                                SCOTT: Twenty minutes.

COLLIDER: So there’s, like, twenty minutes that will be added back in for a longer version?

SCOTT: Maybe. But I’m so happy with this engine, the way it is right now. I think it’s fine. I think it works. It can go in a section where, if you really want to tap in, look at the menu.

There's only one sex scene really, and it's pretty mild, relatively.
