    Re-watched the Star Wars prequels.

I've been slowly switching over my VHS sets to DVD and Blu-Ray and recently got the original trilogy and prequel trilogy box sets.

Some brief thoughts. I'm not going to get into some of the Death Star sized plot holes caused by story line retconning. Just some brief over all impressions of the movies.

Phantom Menace is still pretty bad and definitely the weakest of the three prequel movies. Jar Jar is just as annoying as I remember. I don't hate him. But I don't like him either. Obi Wan and Qui Gon are the most likable and fleshed out characters in the movie.

Attack of the Clones is much better than Phantom Menace but still has a lot of flaws. Anakin is not likable and has no chemistry with Padme The romance scenes with them are awkward and their dialogue is cringe worthy. Where the movie really shines is with Obi Wan. The scenes with him make the movie. The movie was a little long and I think could have benefited from cutting down on the scenes with Anakin and Padma. The movie really dragged in the middle.

Revenge of the Sith was darker in tone than it needed to be and ends up ruining what was once one of the greatest (if not THE greatest) villian in movie history. Anakin never comes off as heroic. Just spoiled, whiny and self absorbed. You never feel for the character or understand what people like Padme or Obi Wan see in him. He is so unlikable it makes his fall to the dark side not as tragic as it should be.

Oddly enough Anakin is actually a much more heroic and likable character in the Clone Wars animated series.

Obi Wan is, again, the best character in the movie. The most heroic, likable and fleshed out as a character. The other Jedis are pretty much there as set dressing, get action figures and then die.

Revenge of the Sith did have by far the best action scenes of the prequels.

You know, I was actually kinda of wary about posting this because the prequels can bring out such strong reactions to people. There's the "raped my childhood" nonsense on one side and the Lucas is god can do no wrong mind set on the other. There's plenty of craziness to go around on both extreme sides.

I'm much more in the middle on them. I think they are okay but not great. Not nearly as good or as bad as the two extreme sides say they are. They didn't ruin my childhood but still honestly could have been a lot better. They did bring kids back to Star Wars and SW collecting which I think is a good thing.

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I said this many times .... The guy who played Anakin is the worst actor in the world.
He acts like a kid in a Hign School play.

To this day I can't fathom how he became an actor.
Why would anybody hire him ?

He literally is a worse actor than OJ Simpson.

        I'll keep my thoughts short...

The Phantom Menace - I still wonder what happened to all those people who quit their jobs to get in line and watch this film. I paid standard admission price and felt ripped off. Can you imagine their reaction?

Attack of the Clones - Should have been renamed "Attack of the Pedophiles". Honestly folks. Padme looked like she could have babysat Anakin in the Phantom Menace and now she's slobbering over him like she can't wait to be hammered? It's both creepy and odd. Imagine the look on Padme's face if Yoda could have looked into his crystal ball during the Phantom Menace? "Oh yes Padme. That little boy will have your beaver oh so soon. Eh hee hee hee..."

Revenge of the Sith - Lucas rewards us by allowing Anakin to be slowly maimed after putting viewers through two films of chronic whining. One question - Why did Lucas feel inclined to have Vader rise off the table like the Frankenstein monster? I believe James Earl Jone's reaction was heartfelt - "NOOOooooOOOOOoooo!"

True, and imagine the outcry from fans and the public if their genders were reversed.

I'm forced to rewatch these all the time (kids), can't say my childhood is in danger of being violated but i really don't care for any of them.

The biggest miss in the whole thing is you don't care for Anakin, he's not likable, he should be a joy and it should be heartbreaking when he turns, instead its:

Whiny kid, creepy jerk, kid killer ta-dah!

Don't get me started on the "the merchandise became the movies" rant I have.

Because he's a cute guy who is not a bad actor.

I've said this before...Lucas molded the actors' performances in the prequels
and some overcame this handicap and some didn't (This resulted in some of
Portman's worst onscreen performances in her whole history).

It didn't help that Lucas and Hayden both agreed to play up the stilted dark
delivery of JONES' performance in the original trilogy imbued in
Hayden's speech patterns in the role.

As far as the love scenes in EP 2... they couldn't be cut...they were vital
to the story... they just failed to meet their potential dialoguewise
to SUPPORT that story....as much of the prequel's dialogue did overall. Shame.

Hopefully like any full blooded male Yoda would've said "Jealous am I that
you, 18 year old that you are, are going to bang a very hot 26 year old
                  queen...."....um... "...are you."

In other words: She's hot. He's an adult in his sexual prime.
You've constructed creepiness from this...I don't get it.

When Anakin/Vader dropped to his knees and bellowed NOOOooooOOOOOO!! at the end of Revenge of the Sith, it was so much like Calculon's over-acting in Futurama that me and my friend both burst out laughing in the cinema
                    NOOOOOoooooOOOOOOO!!

I wasn't the huge Star Wars fan many of you guys were, so the whole "raped childhood" thing doesn't really affect me. But overall, the prequel movies are...blah. The humanity of the original trilogy is gone. Maybe it's the charm factor that Hamil, Fisher and especially Ford had that was missing. Certainly McGregor's Obi Wan is the best part of this series. He is great. The rest...not so much. I hate to be a Lucas basher, but I think a lot of it is his direction. Portman is a great actress but is truly abysmal in these flicks. Chrstiansen wasn't nearly as bad in Jumper.

Anakin is totally unlikable for sure. Too cute in the first movie, two whiny in the next two. He comes across as an unstable putz from the get go, so who cares when he gets chopped up and crispy. He had it coming.

Poor little Jake Lloyd certainly wasn't the best child actor working in Hollywood at the time either. And then there's Jar-Jar. And the "God-zira!!!"-like stereotypical trade federation guys.

They are watchable fantasy films, but they seem...manufactured. Like Lucas did it to make bank only. And boy did he ever.

I don't believe he made any sequels to Star Wars, either. Just a rumor from the '80's.

Am I the only one that finds it creepy that in a New Hope (aka Star Wars) Luke Skywalker is given his father's lightsaber and he's all in awe and stuff, and uses it constantly... and it was used by his father to kill a bunch of little kids?

Or how about in Empire when Vader notices the lightsaber, do you think he says to himself, hey! That was mine. I used it to kill A BUNCH of a kids! Memories... of the way we were....

I saw someone mentioned Anakin was whiny, a jerk, then a baby killer.

Well, Luke starts off whiny, then after Obi Wan dies, he avoids the whole jerk-baby killer cycle.

Maybe Ben was right... maybe HE WAS to blame for Vader!!!

The book "Star Wars" was a story from "the adventures of Luke Skywalker". It wasn't supposed to be about Anakin...
