[QUOTE=MIB41;560368]Here are my entries:
Star Wars: The Clone Wars - Am I the only person who felt creepy at the idea that Natalie Portman (who hadn't changed much in appearance from Menace) was now gazing with sexual tension at a boy she easily could have babysat for in the previous entry? Yet somehow "Anakin" has mysteriously caught up with her...Someone please call the logic police!!!
I put my hand up, exactly, portman should of had wrinklesComment

I love star wars ... but BLAH on boba, so many fan boys think this guy is so amazing ... what did he do??? his life highlight was staying behind with the garbage like han did ... then follow Han. Amazing ... well worth the hype ... and then with AOTC it even killed any mystery to who he was or where he came from.
but man Blade Runner, I swear anyone who can watch this film over and over, like people can do with a "true Classic" is either unable to chance the channel, or lying their butts off. I heard so much good stuff about this film then I watched it ... my eyes glazed over and all I could think was ... WHY THE HECK and why am I watching this.Comment

2001: I get the whole influentlial angle, but what I don't understand is how all the people who love this movie hate ST:TMP. They're basically the same movie. I consider myself a pretty disciplined viewer, but I get alot more antsy watching this one than I do ST:TMP. I think the key to understanding 2001's appeal is dropping some acid. IMO if you have to do drugs to "get" how great a movie is, that disquilifies it because, after all, that really would work with just about any movie. I'm sure Catwonan's great when you're hopped up on PCP.
Well, I can only speak for me, I love "2001" and I've never tried an illegal drug in my life.
I first saw 2001 as a youngster and it completely opened my eyes to how incredible the idea of space travel is. It's the only fictional film that artistically conveys the absolute vastness of the universe. The music and visuals create so many iconic moments that don't leave my head. This is going to sound a little corny - but to me it's like a poem about the universe. I was completely baffled about the story though - just mesmerized through the whole thing.
As I got older and started learning about evolution, early humans, philosophy, music, politics and psychology - all these subjects informed my opinion and changed the meaning of the film. The plot actually came into focus as I gained knowledge. It's a movie that I get something new out of every time I see it, and it's a movie I love discussing because everyone has their own interpretations. I've never had that experience with another movie, and I don't think I ever will.
To me, saying "Star Trek: the Movie" is the same as "2001" is like saying "Mac and Me" is the same as "E.T.".
This is my honest take of what happened with "Star Trek: The Movie": "Star Wars" made a ton of cash, so whatever studio owned Star Trek at that time (I forget right now) tossed money around like it was on fire until they got back the original people.
BUT by that time everyone involved with the original show was ashamed of it. They thought it was dated and corny so they made the movie as dull and lifeless as possible in an attempt to make it 'classy' in their minds. Instead of delivering a solid and fun space adventure they delivered a clunky and superficial rip-off of 2001.Comment

This is a great thread. It's really interesting to hear that landmark, classic, genre films like "2001", "The Abyss" and "Blade Runner" are on some people's "don't get it" lists... Just goes to show that people perceive movies in different ways and get different things out of them. As a filmmaker, I strive to achieve a greater understanding of such things.

of "what he did"....but because of that aforementioned "mystery".
So, basically if you're considering ANYthing other than Boba's short
mysterious appearance in Empire, his value is compromised, and
it's obvious that he's "overrated".
Ford" as was suggested earlier...eh, well, nah, I don't think that's the reason,
but, STILL, I'll take THAT explanation over "lying my butt off"
or "being unable to change the channel.""No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris MannixComment

Why do you guys think "The Abyss" is that bad? I'm just really curious... Have you seen the special edition director's cut? It really is a completely different movie. I'm not defending it just because I spent close to a year of my life working on it, or the fact that I'm a huge Cameronite... I REALLY love that film and think it's a legitimate masterpiece of cinema.
Seriously, not trying to instigate here... Just want more specific thoughts and explanations of why some here think this film is so awful.
Thanks,

It made a huge difference to star trek the motion picture so maybe it worked for the abyss as well?
I'm trusting you here Sandy....Don't make me regret it...“When you say “It’s hard”, it actually means “I’m not strong enough to fight for it”. Stop saying its hard. Think positive!”Comment

...He's by far the coolest looking character in the SW universe, but COME ON-- He's only in the original films (the only films as far as I'm concerned) for like 5 or six minutes of screen time, doesn't REALLY do or say hardly anything, AND has the absolute lamest death ever... Crazy.

If Boba Fett was such a great Bounty Hunter why did he miss Luke when he shot at him in Cloud City? Pretty bad shot for the best bounty hunter around. Was he really trying to hit Luke or keep up appearances as a bad guy? When Luke leaves for Cloud City to rescue his friends Ben says, "There goes our only hope." and Yoda replies, " No, there is another..." Some people thought that under that armor might be another survivng Jedi or Luke's father in hiding, or a clone of Luke's father. Even with the revelation at the end of the film with Vader claiming to be Luke's father a lot of people would not accept that. Boba Fett became on hell of a red herring for a while.Comment

Well, here are some of the great classics that just bore me to death.
2001, ST-TMP, Tron, THX-1138, Blade Runner.
As for Boba Fett, don't forget the character what pretty well hyped also.
He was in the xmas special. Yeah, I know people hate that now, but I remember for kids my age at the time, it was a huge event.
And we got a sneak peak at a brand new character from the upcoming movie.
Then there was the mail-away figure, and all the hoopla over it not having the rocket launcher that they originally planned on.
So, by the time ESB came out, lots of fans were already excited by the character. And nothing in the movie contradicted that.
He was menacing, and mysterious.
But then again, what do I know.
I actually liked and enjoy watching.
5th Element, Armageddon, Adventures of Pluto Nash, Big Trouble in Little China, Buckaroo Bonzai, Independance Day, Last Starfighter, Lost in Space, T2, and many others that most people hate.Comment

2001 and in fact all Stanley K's flicks give me headaches.
It's not the subject matter, but the sound mixing. There is *something* in the audio mix that is like nails on a chalkboard to my brain, and I end up with a cluster headache after a viewing... each time.
It doesn't matter where I watch it, home, theater, friend's home; how I watch it 5.1, stereo, mono, earplug, low volume, blaring.... cluster headache that requires a nap.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
