I dunno about that ^ ...maybe...but I will say for the record that THAT ^

me personally....dang, kinda magical...for a kid obsessed with that
action figure line, the Fett character/figure was like a little piece of miracle.

I recall an early toy commercial where Boba Fett's 3.25" figure had a rocket launcher on his back. I was soo stoked to get that toy. When I got it I was really confused. The rocket didn't even come out - I think I even tried yanking it out with some pliers! Haha!

I recall liking Boba Fett because he was threatening. He outsmarted everyone and found Solo by hanging out in space garbage, then bagged my favorite character in front of his girlfriend. Scared me pretty good. Vader even seemed a little intimidated by Fett for some reason. Jedi was a real let down.

But Boba really didn't bag Solo. Vader is the one who casually blew off his attack and disarmed him in front of his babe. Boba just stood in the background so you can't even give him credit for that one.

He hunted Solo down and tipped off the Empire. He did what no one else could, no? Sure, Boba stood back and let Vader do the dirty work, but he still flew off with my 9 year-old hero like frozen fish stick. Boba had an impact on me.

They seemed to be setting Boba up for a bigger part in the showdown in Jedi - no argument from me that set-up was totally wasted. If it was up to me Boba AND Solo both would have been more useful in Jedi.

The greatest mistake Lucas made, and there are voluumes to pick from, was the way he treated Fett in ROTJ. He went out like a little ***** screaming and kicking. That's way more offensive than any Ewok army or Jar Jar. As much as Fett hated Jedis and with all his anti-Jedi gear, the fight should have been one of the greatest moments in the trilogy. Instead, it turned into a Tom and Jerry episode as he flew into the skiff with a thud and rolled into the Sarlac with a little girl scream. And then...BURP!

What a sad, sad moment in a 12 year old SW fan's life.

I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.

I REALLY love that film and think it's a legitimate masterpiece of cinema.

Seriously, not trying to instigate here... Just want more specific thoughts and explanations of why some here think this film is so awful.

                  Thanks,

I actually prefer the theatrical release over the director's cut. But I'm in the love camp on The Abyss.

He's by far the coolest looking character in the SW universe, but COME ON-- He's only in the original films (the only films as far as I'm concerned) for like 5 or six minutes of screen time, doesn't REALLY do or say hardly anything, AND has the absolute lamest death ever... Crazy.
Most of us lived this, right - is it all so easily forgotten?

What I remember is that Boba Fett was first introduced in the years before Empire came back - in the animated part of the Holiday Special, of all places - and caught on because of his look. Everyone expected/wanted him to be a large presence in the films, and rumor spread that he'd be in the films. When Empire finally came out, it was a letdown because he was a very peripheral character, and when Jedi came out, it was a letdown because he went out like a beyotch - and as a comedy moment - in the first act.

But Boba Fett was a big deal because he looked cool and rumor and expectation in the years before his appearance in the next film had enough time to grow.

Pretty much the same thing that happened with Darth Maul. He was the face of a lot of the early marketing of Phantom Menace, and really did a lot to generate excitement for the film. I assumed he was going to be a much larger presence in the film. Though he did get a significant set piece at the end, as a character, he wasn't really a driving force in that film, and was killed at the end of it. How much better if he'd been a speaking character and more of a Vader/arch-enemy like figure for all three films, only to be betrayed by the Emperor in the end.

                      >and caught on because of his look

I think part of it was that, at the time EVEYBODY was starving for more Star Wars. Fett was this weird little extra bit nobody knew anything about. The mail-in figure was a plus too; it made him a special sort of treat and let kids read in whatever they wanted when playing.
