Whoever the new antagonist is, he/she/they are going to have to be a doozie! If this series is going to last, the next film is going to have a lot of pressure on it to really show how couragous and creative the new production team is willing to get. If the sequel sucks, ala crappy villian/bad writing, Kirk and the crew will be back on the breadline!

They pretty much wiped the board, and can go anywhere, do anything now....I hope they follow up with that. To rehash something probably wont cut it.

With the success of this Movie...it's a no Brainer that Paramount will sign J.J. and the same Writers for the sequel. That right there...is a good start!

Warner Brothers have learned that it pays(TDK:a Billion $$ at the Box Office!) to keep the same creative Team. Hopefully...other Studios will learn this lesson too.

Geez why not go through and redo every episode. You could put the new time line spin, effects into every show and while some would indeed be interesting to see I just dont know...

(By the way I love the new better effects Classic Trek. The Ship/battle heavy epidsodes like the doomsday machine one really stand out now.)

Yeah I like the idea of exploring races like the gorn that were impossible before the better special effects

Lo there do I see my Mother and my Sisters and my Brothers.
Lo there do I see the line of my people back to the begining.
        Lo they do call me.
They bid me take my place among them.

Just read over at TrekWeb that the writers were considering ideas with Khan and Shatner...not necessarily both in the same film, but those two ideas are at the top of their lists so far.

I say they should redo Trek 5. The new cast can do a rap version of Row row Your Boat. Nimoy/Old Spock could take the place of Sybok, and when they get to Sha-Ka-Ree, they find ........the Shat! Sitting on a rock singing Rocketman!
....actually......thats not such a bad idea!

It would be cool if they ripped off New Voyages idea and made the next movie about a Doomsday Machine war.

No other baddie can compare with the Doomsday Machine

Me too Brother!! I never realized how good they could look until I got them on Blu-Ray...WOW!! Watching them on My HD TV with the remastered DTS sound is simply AMAZING! I'm having a BLAST! I feel like I'm a Kid again seeing them for the first time!
The new CGI had to be done...otherwise it just wouldn't have looked good in high Def Blu-Ray. It comes with both versions...but I'll never watch the old ones again!

Here is a similar article on Entertainment Weekly:
What should be in the 'Star Trek' sequel? (And what shouldn't) | PopWatch Blog | EW.com

Here's a real nit-picky thought that popped into my head. If the Enterprise was built at a different point in time as compared to the original timeframe, wouldn't the chances of it being registry #1701 be compromised? (yeah, I know really nit-picky).
                  It's all good!

Khan in the next movie? Geeze, I hope not.
This is a reboot of the Trek franchise, not a rehash of previous episodes/storylines.

Capt. Kirk: "Is there anyone on this ship, who even remotely, looks like Satan?"
Mr. Spock: "I am not aware of anyone who fits that description, Captain"
Capt. Kirk: "No, Mr. Spock, I didn't think you would be"

Khan is about the worst bad guy ever made.

                      Strength ...
Any Vulcan, Romulan or Klingon female could kick his ***

                      Smart
He can study tech manuals quickly --- big deal

                      Power
He's got like 100 buddies - big deal

Khan deserved to be a 1 shot baddie on the classic series, but that's about it.
Even Wrath of Khan was a bit stupid if you look at the nuts and bolts of the story.

From what I've heard and read lately it seems like getting Shatner in the next film is fine with the writers/producers/studio.The thing is they want to do it well not just for the sake of it.You know Bill's not getting any younger(may he live many many more years). There's one cool thing in treks future history that could make this happen...I bet that the "guardian" from "city on the edge"can see forwards, back wards and even into a parallel universe(if it was given a good enough reason to)and I think old Spock could come up with one!
I also think a story line with Pike and Robert April would be great.I have said before that it would've been more realistic having Pike keep the enterprise as his flag ship with Kirk as his first officer(at least until the next film)When Gene Roddenberry came up with the star trek idea he had April as Capitan of the USS yorktown...why not make that a reality now...the Yorktown was the enterprise's sister ship.In the animated adventures April visited the guardian of forever...why not now?
The Kahn thing...it could fix problems for the future but they shouldn't go there just yet. There are better stories to work on for the next movie

Its about the same as the original timeframe....trek history say's 2245?....10-15 years before Kirk takes comand...first Robert April then Chris Pike then Kirk

I think they should remake the original series episode "The Changeling".

Who would make a good Khan? I think either 'The Rock' or 'Vin Diesel' or Naveen Andrews- Yeah!!!!
They could totally revamp it, without it being woosy or try hard.....
Look at what a great job Eric Bana did.
