The Khan idea is not a bad one but this is a better one.

The next Trek movie should be about... oh I dunno...

Exploring a strange new world and seeking out a new life form

Since the origin story is now out of the way, it would be cool for a Trek film to do some sort of first contact story (with apologies to the TNG movie of the same name)

As long as they don't do a Borg story

I am so sick of those Cybermen rip-offs being overused constantly

              Yeah, I've seen enough Borg.
Instead of a menace, they more and more became a parody of themselves.
Like Hugh the Borg. Wasn't he cute? Awww......

I really like the Borg, I think they made great Bads for the TNG movie, but I agree it's time to give them a rest given how prominent they were up until Voyager went off the air.

Plus I really don't think they belong alongside Kirk and co. given the fact that they were unheard of until Q came along and brokered the introduction.

They should try and make the Klingons as menacing as they once were.

Another vote for anything but the Borg. I am just so darn sick of them. Next Gen and Voyager beat the Borg story lines into the ground and then some. The Borg was a bad idea from the start and then dragged out way, WAY too long.

Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I'm really not that big of fan of Klingons and Romulans.

Back in the old series, they both just weren't that impressive as to being a truly evened up match for the UFP.

The old show made them TOO GOOD for what they really were.

                    In todays world,
Klingons are basically just a biker gang ... and Romulans are North Vietnamese.
Together or seperate, they're both just nuisances

Current rumors courtesy of Bruce Greenwood say the next movie features Admiral Pike and Captain Robert April? Not sure how they plan to add April in, since they have changed the time line, but whatever spins their wheels?

Everybody is mentioning Khan, no matter what web-site you look at...Hope they dont do it, but it sure is getting the share of the fan voting.

                        Khan would suck

If they want to distance themselves from what's already been made, why make their second movie about Khan ?

                        It's already been done

                            Okay, I'll bite.

Who said "they" were distancing themselves from what's already been made? Where did "they" say so?

If anything, the new Trek film seems closer in reverence to TOS regarding most pertinent character points and relationships than distancing. Some of the details and story elements have been changed, it's more action oriented and SFX heavy, but the core seems intact.

I'm no where close to a walking encyclopedia of the minutia of Trek, but I know enough to see this film is just filled to the brim with homages to the original TV series and Movies.

If they were distancing themselves, why bring Leonard Nimoy on board? Why feature Romulans in this film (given the fact that they are merely nuisances)? Why use Kirk, Spock et al instead of inventing an entire new cast of characters ala TNG/DS9/Voyager etc?

They have proven that a recast/remake works and doesn't have to "suck" to both an old and new audience pouring money into the Paramount coffers as we speak. The question is, why WOULDN'T they recast and give the popular Big Bads a make-over in the same way?

You can say "Joker would suck" since Cesar Romero has already portrayed him on screen, but "it's already been done" is not really a compelling argument against the critical and commercial successes of Jack Nicholson or Heath Ledgar now is it?

How about "Hamlet would suck" given that to many, Laurence Olivier has made the definitive cinematic performance. No point in remounting that old chestnut ever again in any venue or medium eh?

Why do Trek movies at all? Why bring back Khan in Wrath of Khan? "It's already been done" on the TV screen in the sixties. "Khan would suck". There is nothing that the Big Screen/Big Sound, new special effects technologies of the late seventies/early eighties can add to Star Trek. Star Trek shouldn't look like Star Wars, why is ILM getting involved with Wrath of Khan (and all the subsequent movies)? etc etc etc.

I would welcome a story where the enemy isn't one crazy maniac bent on the revenge of one of the crew of the Enterprise.
