    STAR TREK is BACK !!!!!!!!!!!!

I just got back from a 7:00 PM viewing of STAR TREK:

I will NOT write a full review of this film yet because I do not want to spoil anything for anyone.

Suffice it to say this film IS... ABSOLUTELY... BRILLIANT !!!!!

Hands down, the most exciting, best-written, best-acted, and best directed TREK ever!

The film is a virtual LOVE LETTER to the essence and spirit of the original Enterprise crew while not falling into the trap of doing cheesy Bill Shatner, Leonard Nimoy and DeForest Kelly impersonations.

Its a bit early, I know, but I predict this film is going to be a HUGE hit.
Furthermore, I don't see anything else this summer topping the rollicking good-time this film provides.

When discussing HOW to view this film, let me quote film critic Joel Siegel when he reviewed Return of the Jedi back in 1983:

"Do yourself a favor: Get your Mason Dots and your Milk Duds BEFORE this movie starts. Once it does, you won't get up for the Star Spangled Banner!"

Run... don't walk... to see STAR TREK. And that's coming from a die-hard STAR WARS fan!

Gene and Majel are certainly smiling.

        Ditto on what Darklord said.

I don't know if it was intended or not, but the space-scapes in the closing credits strongly reminded me of the painted covers of the James Blish novels.

Glad to here that you liked the new Trek movie Darklord. I really do hope that it is really as great as it sounds.

Personally, I am still going to wait to read T1K's movie review before I decide to see this on DVD.

With all due respect, I think you might regret that decision Jess. This is DEFINITELY the kind of film that is best viewed with a fun, enthusiastic crowd.

When Chris Pine first sat in the captain's chair... when Zachary Quinto first raised his eyebrow... when Karl Urban first got annoyed and said, "Dammit, I'm a doctor, not a..." when Simon Pegg (in perfect scottish accent), said, "I'm not sure how much she can take, captain!!".... when ALL of these moments happened, the (sold-out) audience I saw the film with nearly stood on their seats.

Zira...ehem...I mean Jessica...is not a Trekkie...it will not matter if she sees it today or tomorrow...as long as she sees it (and hopefully likes it)...I think that will be fine by me.

Yeah...Mike is the cornerstone of positiveness, lol.

You relying on Mike's opinion...that's just gold, man.

Well, lord knows I'm no Trekkie either. But I did recognize that the OPTIMAL enjoyment of this film would come from watching it with a fun crowd.

It's kinda like how a horror film is scarier with a good crowd screaming with you, or a good comedy is much funnier when a good crowd is on hand to laugh along with you.

But this film delivers the goods no matter what!

As for Mike, I'm not 100% sure, but as a purist of classic Trek, I think he may find too many of the "liberties" taken with the Trek universe to be obstacles to his enjoyment of this film.

In that sense, his early prediction about his opinion of the film (if he ever sees it) may be correct.
