    You SHOULDN'T care!!!

First of all, you ROCK the Uhura look better than just about anyone I've ever seen at any convention.

Secondly, getting into the spirit of Trek when you see this film is only going to add to your TREMENDOUS excitement and enjoyment of the entire experience.

    Enjoy!!

I saw it last night at a 7pm sneak peek and I loved it. It was a fun, fast non-stop ride. If you have the chance see in in IMAX, it looks amazing.

You go girl! Embrace your inner geek. There were a couple of people in Starfleet uniforms at the show I saw and the one after it. My husband is a diehard Trek fan and I had a several cake made for him just for opening day. Yes, we are geeks.

I took my girlfriend to Star Trek 4 on my birthday opening day 1987. She was an instant Star Trek fan and never watched it prior to that.

I haven't seen the new one yet but you are in for a treat.

I have only seen the original ones from the TV series, and I love some of them, but I have never seen a Star Trek movie. I have been known to traverse outside of Ape City on occasion.

I've gotta say: my feeling is/was that it's a good movie on its own but it didn't feel like a Trek film to me. *shrug* I didn't have a huge affinity to any of the characters and it simply didn't feel like My Trek and I know it's not supposed to. I guess I just miss the Trek of the past, in all its various incarnations.

I'm not knocking it (because I haven't seen it) .... I'd just like a more well rounded review.

All i'm getting from this thread is sickly sweet fluff
I don't even think it's gratest Trek movie ever (still go with Wrath of Khan). But it was very, very good. There were a couple of minor things I didn't like but I don't want to go into spoilers.
I think the heavy praise is because many of us saw the trailers and were worried about liberties would be taken. Turns out (IMO) many of the worries were unfounded. This was a GREAT movie and probably the best I've seen this year. If I was to guess I believe you'll like it less than the majority do but much more than you think you will if that makes sense.

My brother is far from a fanboy (like us) and yet he's GUSHING over it.
                          (i.e. he loved it)

Looks like we got another "IRON MAN crossover success" on our hands
                          with this STAR TREK movie!

I wasn't that big of a fan of IRON MAN though----so I'll check STAR TREK
out and get back to you guys

I know Abrams has been mentioning STAR WARS as an influence---
but it's funny you mention it after having just spoken to my brother
and him bringing up the SW comparison/context as well...it's interesting
because my brother has no clue about what Abrams has been saying----neat

                              Thanks for the recommendation, man

It was a terrific movie. Hands down the best besides Khan (still my favorite but only by a little). Really did a nice job of capturing the essence of the series that got everyone so excited in the first place. All of the actors did a good job of capturing the characters without falling into caricature (with Dr. McCoy the best at this).

And while this was clearly an action movie, it still had lots of the character moments and humor that we've come to expect with Trek. There were a few things I didn't care for but nothing that interfered with my overall enjoyment of this movie.

And T1K, I think some of us (myself included) may be gushing a little because this movie exceeded our expectations and gave us some hope for the future of the franchise. I know I didn't think they could ever revive the franchise (early I know but I think this movie will do it) in this spectacular a fashion.
