Didn't he already admit he doesn't really care one way or the other and just likes messing with you, Hec?

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Great to hear it....All of your comments are echoing what I have been hearing for the last four months...I was talking to a paramount exec. on Monday about some trek promotions and after BSing with him for a while I asked him for his take on the new trek movie. He said he was never really a true fan of trek but after working on this project for the last 3 years that he was now.He said the studio felt trek deserved one more shot at regaining its former glory as the best of the best.He also said that if trek was to go on it had to bring in a new audience as well as the old and that this film had the potential to do just that.He also knows not all the fans will like some of the changes made to trek history but the studio needed to correct some mistakes of the past and that Kirk didn't deserve his final fate in Generations...HMMMMM?
I'm going this weekend and I know I might not like every thing in this movie but I'm probably going to love it anyway.

That way he can gripe about it with authority.

Loved it! Everything it's cracked up to be. Can't wait for the next two movies! Wrath of Khan has a new contender for the Best Trek Movie Crown in my opinion. Lots of very funny stuff with just enough tribute lines to the original to make if feel authentic. Not even a hint of a Berman influence. A franchise has definitely been reborn.

My weekend is pretty booked, but I'm going to sneak off with the boy and see this. I don't think I can make it through the weekend without it. My own eyes and good word of mouth is making it impossible.

You know there's a brilliant thing that Abrams has done with this "re-boot" of Trek history that should actually make fans of the original actors VERY happy:

                              ************** TEENY-TINY SPOILER************************

With this new "history" that's been created, Captain Kirk no longer needs to have died on Viridian III at the hands of Soran.

In Abram's Trek universe, that reality (and it's full history) still exists somewhere in a parallel reality. But with the actions of villain Nero and "old" (Leonard Nimoy) Spock, both time-travelling into this past, a whole new "history" is being written for these characters, running parallel with the original one.

Old (Leonard Nimoy) Spock comes from (and has memories of) that other original history timeline reality.

What does this mean for Kirk? Well, if history is now being re-written, and if Kirk no longer has to necessarily end up being killed on Viridian III, then there is the potential (as with Nimoy/ Spock in this film) of a future Trek film that features BILL SHATNER himself as an older version of Captain Kirk.

It's not impossible. Don't forget. Abrams offered Shatner a role in this film which he declined to accept because it was not "substantial" enough.

That tells me Abrams was at least willing to feature a story with "old" Captain Kirk.

With the monster success of this film (it definitely WILL be!), there is at least the possibility of Shatner (or other surviving original crew actors) making appearances in any sequels.

                              .
