Actually, when you look at the eyes (one wide open, the other lazy), the nose, crooked mouth, and the general facial expression it sorta does look like him.

That picture might be the effect of a odd camera angle and lighting. He could also be wearing a pair of "Shatners special boots" that had lifts built in them......Plus, Doohan and Takei were hardly tall themselves. Doohan was listed at 5' 8"...which in Hollywood means he was probably only 5'6" or so. I saw Walter Koenig at a sci fi show in Calgary back in the eighties, and he's just a wee little fellar himself...I'm 5'8" and a bit and I towered over him. Takei is about the same height...I'm guessing 5'4" or so??

If that is him its kind of funny....that pic shows two of the best "voice men" in Hollywood!

Harry Shearer is listed as 5' 6"...which in reality is more like 5' 4".

In that Trek pic...he towers over those two...and man...look at that chiseled chest of his, lol.

          Takei is tiny and slight

Doohan was short I am 6'1 and I towered over him when I met him. actually the whole TOS cast is short except for Nimoy. But he was a dday vet so he was tough as nails

Well, I must confess that I too was a bit skeptical on first mention, but if he had the early-60s bit parts, AND made the mention on Letterman, then that eliminates ALL doubt.

                Great Find, Type1kirk..!!!

I think it's him. Looks like him, and Mike may not like much of anything, but he's never just made up stuff.

I don't believe this for a second. None of his online biographies mention this--and it's too cool NOT to mention. He was a child actor in the 50s and then returned to it in the mid 70s.

This is him in the late 60s/early 70s.

The thing is---he looks in his early 30s to me in those Trek stills ergo my
first comment about him being old as dirt now if that's actually him in Trek.

But yeah---I can believe that's him....certainly logical enough.

                          Fact 1
In the 1980's I did hear Harry Shearer on Letterman say he played in an episode of Star Trek .. He mentioned he was a security guard and fought Klingons with a sword.

                          Fact 2
The only Klingon episodes were .......
"Errand of Mercy" --- no swords and no Enterprise security guards
"Friday's Child" --- no swords and only security on that show was absolutely not him.
"The Trouble With Tribbles" --- no swords
"A Private Little War" no swords and no Enterprise security guards
"Day of the Dove" ... Had Swords and security guards

                          Fact 3
I am not making up the comment made by Shearer on Letterman .....

                          Fact 4
perhaps Harry Shearer lied ..... (If he did, I have no idea why he would) He didn't even mention it in the context of a joke .... He said it in passing as one of the stints he did early in his career.

                          Fact 5
The photo above may not be him ..... Perhaps he is in the episode somewhere else ... My investigation of this years ago came to the conclusion THIS MAN is the most likely candidate to be the young Harry Shearer.

It's up to everyone to believe what they want.
I'm just giving you the facts I have and you can make your own determinations.

                            Okay.

                            I'll play Sherlock Holmes here.

Do you think he may have been talking about his career and
                            "over-exaggerating" as a joke?

Like "I did everything. I played Carol's old highschool flame on
                            the Brady Bunch.
I even swordfought with a Klingon on Star Trek" just to sound funny
by being so pop-cultur-ey in his reference.

A reply to this theory may be "Well, how come he was so specific with
                            a plot detail, then?"

My answer would be... maybe he's a big Trek fan---and that helped with his
little funny quip (If it indeed was meant to be a joke).

Hue, i'm not going to argue with you if Shearer is a lier or not or what he might have ment by his comment.
I took it ... and still do ... at face value.
He said he played it and that's it.

It all comes downs down to ....

                              Either Shearer is a lyer.
                              I'm a lyer.
Nobody is a lyer and it's true.

                              Believe what you want.

Write to NBC and ask for a transcripts of the episodes where Shearer was a guest on Letterman and judge for yourself.

Oh, relax about the lying. Geez. Nobody's calling you a liar.

Shearer is 5'6. Takei is 5'8". Doohan is 5'11". This guy isn't him.
