I think I have a reason to dismiss the cannibal theories.

If EVERYONE is infected with the zombie virus wouldn't eating human flesh be effectively the same as eating a zombie which would turn the eater into a zombie ?

Maybe they think it'll reverse the virus. Like getting vaccinated.

This article has the merest mention of the spin-off series but it's so little I'll paste it here:

I don't remember if the comic explains why the cannibals do not eat zombies, but if a group can square the circle on eating people and believe you're won't turn from it, then what is stopping you from catching a walker and doing a blind taste test?

In one episode of Season 3 Milton does say the Biters are decaying only more slowly,(?). I can't recall the exact episode.

Kirkman said there were going to be a lot of angry and hurt people on Monday morning, so anything goes I suppose. It's also been said the very last spoken line of the show tonight is crucial and leaves a HUGE cliffhanger. Andrew Lincoln questioned the writers about the level of violence and if they are going too far. I'm guessing everyone eats some Beth steak and Maggie, Bob and one other main bites it big time.

IMO, WORST season finale EVER.

I was really let down how mediocre it was.

Could have been a regular throw-away episode from the middle of the season
